Ideas for craftswomen, how to sew toy pillows with your own hands. We sew and knit funny pillow toys with our own hands! DIY pillow toys: original patterns
Small children love to sleep with soft toys. They also just love to sleep with lots of pillows. You can combine all the children's desires and sew a pillow, which was nicknamed the spy cat. And if you have the opportunity to sew several of these pillows, your child will be just happy. Moreover, this a budget option toys. You don’t even have to spend a penny on it if you have fabric and any filler for toys at home (this can be foam rubber or padding polyester from old toys or pillows).
It will be convenient to sew on a sewing machine, but you can also sew a cat by hand.
Let's make a pattern for small details (ears, legs, arms and tail) The body will be large enough, so we draw it directly on the fabric (on the wrong side, folding the fabric in half). To draw the body even, you need to draw a half of an oval, then fold the fabric in half and cut it out. Then cut out the ears. To make them look prettier, you can make the front part of a bright fabric. Also cut out details for handles from another fabric.
We sew all the details. We sew the arms and legs completely. When you sew the torso, leave an unsewn area in the tail area.
To turn the legs and arms from behind, we make small cuts. Then turn inside out and fill with padding polyester.
We also fill the ears with a padding polyester a little, then we make two cuts in the body and insert the ears there as shown in the photo and lay the line. Then we turn the body inside out and fill it with padding polyester. No need to stuff tightly, the body should be soft.
Sew up the cuts on the arms and legs. We fill a little with synthetic winterizer.
Today we will sew a cute Fox toy pillow. The master class is quite detailed, so there will be few words. I wish you happy sewing!
Advice. If you don't have a sewing machine, try hand sewing a back stitch pillow toy. To do this, you better slightly mark the seam with an allowance of 1 cm, so that it turns out neatly. And the markup can be done with a disappearing marker, which you can find in almost every needlework and sewing store.
Materials and tools: cotton fabric 30x35cm - 2 pcs. -- orange and back (I took gray color), cream velor 20x40 cm, non-woven adhesive, felt small pieces, colors: black, light pink, white and blue. For the bow, I used a lace ribbon (you can use any other - satin, rep, whatever it is), synthetic filler (120-150 gr). Scissors, thread, sewing machine.
1) Cut out the pattern. The photo is A4 size. We cut out the main part of the muzzle in a mirror spread.
2) For strength and good shape, glue interlining. And we also glue to the velor.
3) Cut out the orange fabric with a 1 cm allowance.
4) We cut out the cheeks from the velor also with an allowance.
5) Sew the cheeks to the orange muzzle.
6) We apply the resulting part to the gray fabric and cut it out.
7) We sew the parts face to face, leaving a gap for eversion and stuffing with filler (I left it in the head area), we make cuts in a circle without going to the seam.
8) Turn inside out.
9) Fill with filler.
10) We sew up the hole through which the pillow was stuffed with a hidden seam.
11) Sew on felt parts: eyes, nose, cheeks, after attaching with pins. We sew a bow.

We attach lace and a beak, performing a zigzag seam along the contour. Lace should lie in the center of the calf, between the wings.
We attach the wings and eyes with the same seam. Manually sew pupils - beads.
We fold the two parts with the front sides inward, we cut them off with pins, we sew along the contour. At the same time, do not forget to leave an area for turning and stuffing.
We make notches in convex areas so that the shirt-front with wings does not bulge after eversion.
We turn out the pillow, iron it. Then the main part, that is, the shirtfront, is filled with filler.
Sew up the hole with hidden stitches.

Felt owl
Sewing such a toy is quite simple. Depending on the size, the craft can be a small owlet - a keychain or a comfortable one. sofa cushion. A bright owl made of felt with your own hands is made according to a pattern.
For work need to cook:
- felt of different colors;
- filler;
- fabric for finishing the tummy and wings;
- needles, pins, scissors.

It is convenient to sew an owl, like many felt toys, using a “needle-forward” seam, in which the lengths of stitches and gaps are equal.
Using pattern templates, cut out all the elements from felt and fabric. Sew colored details on the felt wings. Hide the knot of thread between the felt and the fabric. For convenience, the fabric can be fixed with a pin before sewing.
We make out the muzzle of a felt owl. Referring to the pattern, we place and sew the details of the peephole. Please note that from the edge of the main part to the eye, as well as between the eyes, the distance should be about 5 mm.
As alternative you can choose to glue the eye.
Then we sew the tummy, after fixing it with a pin.
We attach the claws, beak, dark details of the ears. Embroider a tail on the back side.
We fold the two main parts, insert the wings between them and fix with pins. We sew a seam along the circumference, leaving a small part not sewn up.

Educational search toy "Owl"
For creativity to us you need to prepare:
- fleece material of sand and light green color;
- brown felt and white color– thickness 3 mm;
- felt, black and yellow color– thickness 1 mm;
- rep ribbon with a bright ornament;
- film file or any thick transparent film;
- quick-drying glue;
- short chain;
- filler - rice, beads;
- small toys - searchers;
- threads for embroidery;
- scissors, pencil, needles, adhesive tape.
Description
We make patterns of all the elements of the toy, drawing them on our own or printing them from the site.
The body with ears should be symmetrical.
We mark the abdomen and frill. To do this, you can use improvised items.
Try to keep the size of the waves of the frill the same.
Cut out the belly.
We mark two main details on the fabric - one with the abdomen, the other without it.
Cut out both pieces.
Cut out the frill pattern.
We mark it on the fabric and cut it out.
We put the main part on a transparent film.
We connect the parts with pins and sew along the contour of the window with a zigzag seam.
We cut off the excess film, leaving an allowance of 20-30 mm from the seam.
We fold the main parts right side out and fix with pins. Then, along the contour, we manually sew a seam “over the edge”. Such a seam looks good if it is done with threads that match the main part, but a little darker.
We make a loop from the tape.
We sew it along the edge of the product.
We do not sew up the top of the head and ears. We do not cut the thread.
We glue the frill along the edge of the window in the form of a decorative rim, closing the seam.
To fill the tummy of an owl, we use beads or rice.
We prepare small items that we will put in a toy, lay them out on paper and take pictures.
We fill a third of the height of the abdomen with filler. We put prepared searchers there.
Sew up the top of the owl, fasten and cut the thread.
Using improvised objects as templates, we cut out three circles of white, yellow and black for each eye. We also cut out the beak and eyebrows.
We connect the white circles, glue the beak from the wrong side.
We glue the details of the eye, eyebrows and beak.
We glue the general part on the front side of the owl.
We print out a photo of the search engines, laminate them with adhesive tape, laying a piece of cardboard or multi-colored paper Velcro for rigidity.
We pierce a hole in the corner.
We pass the chain through the hole and loop on the toy.
Owl - the searcher is ready!
It is impossible not to fall in love with the original little animals and cartoon characters made in the form of pillows - they immediately win the hearts of kids and adults. Thanks to a special cut, using a toy pillow is convenient, pleasant and healthy, since, in addition to aesthetic qualities, the product performs an orthopedic role.
Even a novice needlewoman can settle funny new settlers in her house.
Do-it-yourself pillow
Splyushki toys are easy to make with your own hands, even without a special pattern.
To brighten up the rest of the child, keeping him company in traveling through night dreams, the cool cat Bayun can.
The cat shown in the picture is sewn from satin. The eyes, nose, mustache and claws of this soft toy, as well as similar models, are usually embroidered with floss threads or wool. It is not recommended to use buttons and other protruding plastic parts - during sleep they will put pressure on the baby's skin, and an awake child, while playing, may accidentally tear off loose fragments of his pet's muzzle.
To sew splyushki toys with your own hands, it is not necessary to make patterns. Such patterns are easy to draw on your own. The principle of their construction is the same - the “cushion” needs to take the place where the head of the sleeping child will be, and at the location of his neck, at the head, there should be free space.
This is more clearly seen in the photo..
The cow, the dog and the owl shown in the photo will "hang" their legs on the child's shoulders, and the baby's head will comfortably sit on the tummy of funny toys.
Standard patterns of do-it-yourself pillows-toys are not needed, because it is better to make product patterns according to individual measurements. For example, a cow and a dog can be sewn according to the same pattern - the toys have exactly the same body shape, and the difference is only in the design of the muzzle and in some other details. By sewing long ears to the body, cut out according to the same pattern, and by applique or embroidering eyes, nose and toothy mouth, you can get a bunny, and by making shorter triangle ears and a long tail, you can get a cat. That is, a dog in skillful hands can easily turn into a cat or a bunny.
star pattern
The star pillow pattern consists of:
- 2 pieces of a star pattern;
- 1 rectangular facing.
The width of the facing is equal to the height of the pillow, and its length is the length of all the rays. In the process of sewing, the facing is connected into a ring, and then sewn to the rays around the entire perimeter of the future pillow.
The corners at which the rays end are slightly rounded when sewing. sharp edges protruding triangles can not be cut.
At the end of the work, one of the beams is left unsewn - the product is turned out through it, filled with stuffing material, and only then the resulting slot is finally sewn up.
More details step by step description making a star pillow can be found on the Internet pages of craftswomen mothers in the master classes provided by them.
Typewriter diagram
Any boy, including one who stubbornly refuses to sleep during the day, will gladly take a nap in his own car.
The scheme is shown in the figure.
Such a machine is able to decorate the baby's bed and is sewn like a pillowcase, so that if necessary it can be easily removed and washed.
pillowcase toys
The magic hands of moms can turn an ordinary pillow into a toy or an animal. In the above models, not the pillow itself, but its pillowcase will undergo changes.
The easiest way is to reconstruct a pillowcase for a book cover. To do this, you need a bright fabric with an interesting pattern that imitates a palette, and fine striped fabric for the “pages” of the book.
The final result will look something like this:
No less difficult will be the transformation of a baby pillow into a bear or other animal. To do this, from the same fabric as the pillowcase, you will have to sew and stuff the head of a toy animal. The paws of the animal will turn out by themselves if you tie the pillow in the middle with a ribbon.
Do-it-yourself patterns of toy pillows can not be found, but such patterns are built in the same way as the head patterns of any soft toy you like. It is only necessary to slightly adjust the scale of the proposed template so that the size of the animal's head is approximately 1/4 the size of the pillowcase.
Product Requirements
The pillow toy is primarily intended for children, Therefore, products must meet the following requirements:
The pillow should be stuffed moderately - the product should be soft enough and not too hard, otherwise the child may experience discomfort during sleep.

Quick article navigation
To update the interior of the children's room and make the baby's bed more comfortable, it is enough to decorate it with a couple of decorative pillows. We offer creative mothers to sew them with their own hands, because this is done quickly, simply and on a budget. The main thing here is to invent interesting design and choose the right materials.
In this article, we have collected 30 inspirational photo examples of baby pillows for beginners and experienced crafters, and also prepared 3 step by step master class sewing by hand:
- Pillows-toys in the form of a cloud.
- Letter pillows.
- Patchwork pillows.
- Combine different pillows with each other, so the interior will be more fun. The composition can be combined by the shape, color or print of products. When choosing fabrics, it is easiest to focus on the colors and patterns of the wallpaper, as well as on the rest of the textiles in the children's room. For example, pillows can echo curtains, sofa upholstery and, of course, a blanket.
- Thinking about the style and decor of the future product, consider the style of the interior. If, say, for modern interior you can sew bright toy pillows, then products are more suitable for soothing colors and traditional styles in the form of rollers and pillows with ruffles or tassels as in the photo below.
- For sewing baby pillows, it is advisable to use natural and dense fabrics (linen, cotton), which are much easier to wash, say, felt, and look much more beautiful than synthetics like fleece.
- Before sewing, the fabric should be washed and ironed, then you will sew already taking into account the shrinkage of the material.
- It is clear that children's pillows should be washed often, but how to wash decorative pillows that do not have pillowcases and must always retain their shape? As a filler for children's spy toys and soft sides, we recommend using:
- Sintepuh (not to be confused with synthetic winterizer);
- Holofiber.
These materials are hypoallergenic, hold their shape well after washing, and can be washed in washing machine at low temperature even with spin. Unfortunately, synthetic winterizer, natural fluff, buckwheat, batting, foam rubber and other fillers do not have such properties.
- If you want to make a decorative and sleeping pillow at the same time, for example, a cushion or a side for a crib, then it is recommended to sew not just a pillow, but a pillowcase with a pillowcase. After all, removable pillowcases are much easier to wash, besides, by sewing one pillowcase and a pair of matching pillowcases, you can update the interior according to your mood.
Master class number 1: Sweater cloud pillow
As you know, the world of children's interiors has its own trends, and such pillows in the form of clouds are just at the peak of popularity. They are good because they are easy to sew, look cute and are suitable for decorating the room of both a boy and a girl. In this master class, we will tell you how to sew a soft cloud with your own hands from any sweater in a pleasant color.
Materials:
- Sweater (preferably made of polyester, not acrylic. By the way, instead of a sweater, you can take an old cotton sweatshirt, T-shirt, etc.);
- Sintepukh;
- Sewing accessories;
- Sewing machine (if any);
- Paper for making patterns.
Step 1. We draw a pattern on paper in the form of a cloud or any other figure that you like.
Step 2. Turn the sweater inside out (!) and attach the resulting template (including the back layer of fabric) to it with pins as shown in the photo. Then we trace the contour of the cloud and begin to cut out blanks with an indent of about 0.7 mm (for allowances).
Step. 3. Now we begin to grind the two parts of the pillow along the previously drawn contour, but be sure to leave about 10 cm unsewn.
Step 4. In the places where the cloud is rounded and in the corners, we make cuts - this will make the shape of the pillow neater and more correct.
Step 5. Turn the pillow inside out and stuff it tightly with filler, helping yourself, for example, chopstick. Lastly, close the opening with a blind stitch.
Woo-ala! The baby pillow is ready!
Based on this master class, you will be able to sew pillows of the most different forms and colours. For example, a cloud may have arms and legs, beady eyes and rosy felt cheeks.
Instead of a cloud, you can sew a star, a raindrop, a moon, a heart or candy. See examples of such pillows in the following selection of photos.
Master class number 2: Pillow-letter
And now we offer to sew another simple, but original letter pillow, which will help to personalize the nursery or bed, if, for example, there are more children.
Materials:
- Textile;
- Sintepukh;
- Sewing accessories;
- Sewing machine.
By combining 3 types of fabric, you can use leftover leftovers and make the pillow design more fun.
Step 1. Select a letter, draw it (or print it in A4 format) and cut it out along the contour.
Step 2. Now we need to cut out two parts of the pillow - front and back.
- To cut the front of the pillow, you need to: on the fabric lying face up, put our template with the same face up, circle it and then cut out the blank.
- To cut out the back side of the letter, you need to: do everything the same, but first turn the template upside down, that is, according to the principle of mirror reflection.
Step 3. Now you should prepare the sidewall of the pillow.
- Its length should be equal to the perimeter of the letter + 2 cm for allowances. You determine the width of the sidewall yourself, for example, it can be 4 cm, then, taking into account the 2 cm allowance for the seams, the width of the workpiece will be 6 cm.
But since you probably won't be able to cut a single strip of fabric, you will need to cut several strips of the same width and sew them together to end up with one strip of the desired length.
Step 4. Sew the sidewall to the first letter. To do this, we fold them facing each other and begin to grind around the entire perimeter of the workpiece.
- For convenience, the side strip can be attached with pins.
We repeat the same procedure with the second half of the pillow, but leave a small segment unfinished.
