What can be done from a table lamp. Table lamp with your own hands. What can you make a ceiling lamp from?
Hello to all DIY lovers. I think every house has a source of light, whether it be a lamp, a chandelier or a backlight, which to one degree or another help in Everyday life, but such devices can very rarely boast of originality, since the manufacturer usually does not make a unique product, except for those that are custom-made, but such a pleasure will be expensive. That is why it was decided to make an original do-it-yourself beech table lamp, and for anyone who has worked with wood in the slightest degree, assembling such a homemade product will not seem impossible. First you need to decide on the material and tools that will be useful in the manufacture of this homemade product.
Before reading the article, I suggest watching a video about this homemade product.
To make a table lamp with your own hands you will need:
* Beech planks
* Glue for wood
* Planer
* Manual milling cutter
* Sanding machine
* Sawing machine
* Clamps
* Oil for furniture
* Drilling machine
* Dimmer
* Wires with plug
* Electric drill
* Threaded bushing for furniture with M12 thread in 1.25 pitch
* Super glue
* Stud M12 pitch 1.25
* Rubber band
* Sandpaper
That's all you need to assemble such a homemade table lamp.
And now the most interesting, the assembly process.
Step one.
First you need to drive all the beech boards on the thickness gauge, this is done so that their thickness is the same.
We do this from all four sides.
After that, we saw a wide board into small planks, approximately 5 cm wide, of which the head of the lamp will consist.
Step two.
After the boards are ready, they must also be driven on a thickness gauge, and then sawn into small pieces using a sawing machine.
The components must be calculated in advance, the cut angle will depend on their number and the desired size of the lamp itself. For simplicity, we take 8 parts, on each of which it is necessary to make a cut at 45 o on both sides, this is done most easily on a sawing machine.
Step three.
When all 8 blanks are adjusted to the size, they can be glued, wood glue will help us with this. Before bonding, it is necessary to sand the surfaces to be bonded to improve the contact patch.
We smear the glue over the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe junction of each part and fasten it with a rubber tie, by the way, it can be easily made from a bicycle chamber.
We remove the excess glue with a rag and leave it to dry for a couple of hours, and while the glue dries, we make three more such parts.
Step four.
After drying all four octagonal blanks, it is necessary to cut at an angle on three of them to create the shape of a lamp. How to do this is more clearly seen in the photo. You also need to make an octagonal bottom.
Step five.
We glue four octagons into one whole, after drying we grind on a grinding machine until a shape similar to a vase is obtained.
When grinding, rotate the workpiece as smoothly as possible, the correct shape of the lamp will depend on this.
Step six.
It's time to make a leg for the lamp, with which you can adjust the direction of the light.
We saw off four small boards of beech and round the edges on a grinder, for this it is best to draw a circle with a compass in advance.
In the center of this circle we drill a hole, we do it on both sides and on each of the boards.
Then you need to make three small boards adjacent to both the head of the lamp and the base, which will also be rounded on one side, and two small blanks will be needed to glue them together, as in the photo.
Lubricate the gluing points with glue and press with a clamp.
Step seven.
To control the brightness of the light, you need to make a wheel, which will then be put on a dimmer. Similarly to this wheel, we make six more of these, but to fix the position of the lamp.
In the middle, we drill a blind hole and glue the bushing with M12 thread in 1.25 steps with superglue and screw it in until it stops.
To fix the position, you will also need three M12 studs with a pitch of 1.25, which will pass through the entire lamp fixture.
Step eight.
Now you need to make a shield or the so-called base on which the lamp leg itself will be fixed. Its shape is also round, made with grinding machine.
We grind the surface grinder and on top of an oak thin plank we glue a circle with a smaller diameter.
For strong bonding, we use clamps, and preferably three at once.
In the meantime, the glue dries, you can apply the first layer of oil on the head of the lamp.
Step nine.
The glue has dried, the oak circle has stuck, which means we proceed to install the dimmer. We disassemble its case, we need the inside itself, we drill a hole in an oak mug and mark the dimensions of the board on the reverse side, after which we use manual router remove excess material to fit the dimmer inside.

- cocktail umbrellas that reveal the details of cans;
- plastic bottles, spoons, forks, lids, yogurt, tin and other jars;
- fabrics and textiles, braid, ribbons, threads, bows;
- newspapers and paper cuttings, drawings for decoupage technique;
- toys both soft and hard, up to the smallest of kinder surprises.
As a base for a table lamp, you can cut stands out of wood with your own hands or use ready-made ones from under something. You can also use flower pots, plates, an updated base from an old lamp and many other items, or do without a base at all.
A ball, a ball, which at the end of the work is quite easy to remove, can serve as a frame for creating a ceiling.
The easiest way to revive the interior with a new lamp is to repair the old one.
Bottle table lamp
This design option for a light source is very common, since making a table lamp from a bottle is much easier than it seems at first glance.
The bottle can act as an excellent base for a table lamp or as an independent lighting fixture without the addition of a lampshade. This is especially true if there is a bottle or jar of the original shape or color in stock.
A do-it-yourself bottle lamp can have 2 options for connecting light:
- external - a cord and a bulb holder are fixed outside the bottle;
- internal - the cord is threaded through the bottle.
In the second option for creating a table lamp from a bottle, you must first make a hole in the bottom so that the bottle does not burst. To do this, it must be buried in a bucket of sand with the neck down, leaving about 5 cm above the sand. A small puddle of water must be poured onto the bottom. Using a diamond drill in the center of the bottle, you need to drill a hole, holding the drill strictly vertically. A similar hole must be made in the bottle cap. Now you can design a table lamp for your desktop, bedside table or window sill.

Everyone can make a modern floor lamp with their own hands from improvised materials at home. Use the tips and decorate your home with a new stylish lamp.
A floor lamp is an indispensable piece of furniture that adds special comfort to your home. Under its warm, diffused light, things take on a completely different, fabulous sound. The room is completely transformed, there is a feeling of comfort.
On the market for interior decoration, there is a great variety of floor lamps made of a wide variety of materials: with lampshades made of crystals or fabric, original solutions from fish scales, gold plates, wood shavings. One thing is invariable: only 4 things are needed for a floor lamp - a stand, a leg, a lampshade, a light bulb. From what you can make the necessary spare parts, how to put them together, we will consider further.
Necessary materials
It is not at all difficult to make a floor lamp on your own. The only thing that will definitely be needed is knowledge of the simplest electricians plus compliance with safety requirements. There are no special rules for creating a floor lamp - it all depends on your imagination. The lampshade can be knitted, glued out of paper, pasted over with sparkles, shells, flowers. Do-it-yourself lamps are an opportunity to have fun with family and friends, as well as update the interior of a room without leaving home.
We make blanks
To begin with, we suggest doing a stand. If you didn’t find anything suitable at home, for example, supplies from an old broken fan or floor lamp, we will make a stand ourselves from gypsum. Gypsum is a heavy, durable and easy-to-handle material. For a heavy stable stand, 3-4 kg of dry gypsum is enough. Conceived a large, heavy lampshade - increase the amount of plaster for the stand.
Now you need to choose a shape for the future stand. A large-diameter baking dish with removable sides is perfect for this. Silicone is inconvenient: it does not hold its shape well, and hardened gypsum simply cannot be pulled out of iron with non-removable sidewalls.
Pick the "right" stick. The most practical are metal tubes. They are not very heavy, the electrical cable can be pulled inside, and not left dangling outside. So the floor lamp will look more aesthetic, modern and stylish.
For the lampshade frame, prepare a mesh about 200 cm long and a width equal to the desired height of the lampshade. Start bending one edge of the mesh to make a circle. Choose the diameter of your choice. After cutting off the rest of the wire, begin to bend the protruding pieces of wire, creating a single frame. Do not cut the tails, fill them inside the lampshade. Pass the aluminum tape along the perimeter for the strength of the form (so that the circle does not turn into an oval). From the same tape, folded crosswise, make a frame for fixing the lampshade with a ceiling. Do not attach the frame to the lampshade. First finish the design, then with the lamp on, determine at what height you will mount the lampshade.
Assembling the lamp on the leg
We begin to prepare a plaster stand. Mix gypsum with water to a state of thick sour cream. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap, put plaster in it. Upper layer align. Mark the middle and stick a pre-prepared metal tube-leg into it. Be careful! The leg must stand strictly vertically in plaster, otherwise your future floor lamp will turn out to be crooked. Gypsum will take about 10 hours to dry. During this time, you can decorate the lampshade for the future floor lamp.
Lampshade Ideas
Since you have already decided on the frame of the lampshade, its height and diameter, it remains only to decide how to decorate it beautifully. Do not forget: the floor lamp should organically fit into the interior of your room. It can be one of the following types:
Remember your grandmother was once fond of knitting and macrame? Such lampshades hand made were very popular in Soviet times. This work is slow, painstaking, requires skills and abilities. You can simplify it by tying each cell of the grid with fluffy threads and imposing flowers on top. Don't know how to knit? Just wrap the mesh with fringed knitting threads. Get a gentle plush lampshade.
Marine style lampshade. To decorate it, all small pebbles and shells, carefully brought by you from vacation, are suitable. They can be glued directly to the mesh or hooked with wire rings. You can paint the base red, imitating a fishing net. Magnets also fit perfectly into this composition.
Glamor lampshade. Rhinestones, sequins and glass beads are wonderful decorations for your lampshade. Transparent and translucent materials unequally transmit light, making the floor lamp the center of attention.
Floor lamp for nursery. Styling a lampshade for a children's bedroom will help plush toys, stickers, luminous stickers. If desired, suitable plastic toys can be glued to the leg, then painted in one color, achieving unity of the composition.
Hi-tech design. Take chrome paint and paint the leg and stand with it. Braid the lampshade with black wire, leaving small gaps. Cover it with black matte spray paint.
rope ornament. Original and unusual lampshades are obtained from a twisted rope. She can braid the existing frame, or you can create more original design. Rope balloon lampshade different colors looks very nice. To create a rope ornament, inflate a balloon, rub it with petroleum jelly and lay out an ornament from a rope soaked with PVA glue on its surface. Let the glue dry, pierce the ball - that's it, the lampshade is ready.
The easiest way to change the design of the lampshade without changing anything in the design of the floor lamp is to cover it on top and sides with painted silk scarves. You will see the effect immediately, and the design will not change. Be careful not to overheat, this can cause a fire!
Whatever you decide to decorate your lampshade, follow one rule: flammable materials should not be near a heat source. We recommend using energy-saving light bulbs in the floor lamp. They do not heat up, are economical and will please you longer.
Construction assembly
The gypsum has dried up, you can remove the sides of the mold and remove the stand with the leg. Since gypsum usually has a matte, faded color, we recommend painting the stand and leg with spray paint. When it dries, you can begin to mount an electrician.
We fasten the electrical wire to the wires of the cartridge and pass it through the pipe down. We take it out from under the stand and mount the switch. It will be most convenient to use a foot lamp so that you can turn the floor lamp on and off without bending down. We cut the wire to a length convenient for you, mount the plug. Then we screw in the light bulb and check if your device works. We try on the lampshade, determine the height of the bulb, fix the lampshade. That's it, the decorative lamp on the leg according to your own design is ready to use.
New life for an old lamp
Do you have an old floor lamp lying around in your garage, is it working, but not modern? Give it a second chance: change the design and enjoy the new piece of furniture.
Remove the damaged lampshade, leaving only the frame. Paint the base with fresh paint. Take an ordinary white fabric and sheathe the frame of the lampshade with it. White fabric is a limitless field for creativity. Paint it with acrylics, stick glitter, dry flowers, ribbons - whatever your heart desires.
Wallpaper illuminated by a lamp of a floor lamp looks very beautiful. You just need to pick the right ones. To do this, take pieces of existing wallpaper and see how they look. Having found the right ones, coat the old lampshade with wallpaper glue and glue them. Cut off the excess with an overlap of 3-4 cm at the top and bottom. These overlaps then need to be glued inward so that the old lampshade is not visible. Let the glue dry, then install the updated lampshade and enjoy your work.
Work with the leg of the floor lamp. The winding of the legs with a rope or rope looks spectacular, which will fit perfectly into sea style. Winding with wire of different colors will add originality to the floor lamp. If you want more brightness, stick rhinestones on the leg and on the stand. Glamor will definitely be provided.
Making things with your own hands is always a pleasant and creative activity. A floor lamp created from scratch or an updated old one from the garage will delight you and your loved ones on long winter evenings. If suddenly you get bored with your idea, you can always add something new or repaint your new leg lamp.

It will probably be difficult to find a more original chandelier than a pumpkin from a Polish artist. It carves stunning patterns on the peel that do not repeat.
Felt hat lampshades from Jeeves & Wooster look original and stylish.
Once Heather Jennings saw an amazing Rhododendron chandelier in the store, only it cost more than $ 800. Then the designer decided that she could do just as well with her own hands. To do this, she needed paper molds for cupcakes.
