Facing brick size: standard, euro, narrow, thin
Modern construction technologies involve the use of various materials that are intended for the construction of load-bearing structures. However, any building, in order to achieve an attractive appearance, requires finishing work, where an important parameter is the quality and size of facing bricks that meet the standards of a certain GOST.
At the moment, there are many options for brick finishes, which differ in density, dimensions, structure and technical characteristics.
Short review
Finishing is used for decorative purposes and to improve quality parameters. The facade of the house, lined with such materials, a priori looks more presentable, beautiful, while the thermal insulation of the walls increases, but air exchange is maintained.
For private property owners who are attracted by the classic design of the walls, red ceramic blocks with standard sizes will serve as the best option.
In addition, decorative types of finishes that mimic the structure of natural stone can be used in the wall cladding process. In this case, preference should be given to silicate products with a relief similar to a chopped natural stone.
Manufacturing companies offer standard white blocks or hollow blocks with a smooth surface, painted in various colors. In the production of colored fragments, persistent dyes based on iron oxide are used. In addition, blocks equipped with hollow cells reduce the load on the foundation, which will significantly increase the service life of the entire building.

Each type of building material has individual technical features and dimensions of the facing product. Therefore, in order to choose the most suitable option, you should study in detail the parameters of each type of finish.
Varieties of dimensions
All existing sizes of facing bricks must comply with GOST regulatory standards and be reflected in the quality certificate attached to each batch.
The main regulatory document is GOST 530-2012, which defines the technical characteristics of bricks and ceramic stones.
The manufacturing company, in the manufacture of finishes, adheres to all established rules and offers the user products with optimal shapes that allow you to create any design of the facade. In this case, the lined wall will have a high level of wear resistance.
Creating a layer using different sizes of finishing bricks will allow you to make a unique masonry without compromising the service life. All sides of the block have proportional ratios equal to 1:1/2:1/4. In this example, the first value is the length of the element, the second is the width, and the third is the height.
The manufacture of a single, double, one and a half or universal type of finish depends entirely on the established proportions. The most popular modification is considered to be a single view with standard dimensions - 65x120x250 mm.
Key sizing specifications
Since 1927, the Russian unified standard, which is fundamental in the process of manufacturing a finishing block, designates not only the dimensions of the product, but also other important parameters. The established requirements apply to standard and finishing bricks. The material may have a different design, color, texture, technological process, but it is the dimensions that will always remain unchanged:
- The parameters of a single block are equal - 25x12x6.5 cm;
- One and a half - 25x12x8.8 cm;
- Double - 25x12x13.8 cm.
Euro bricks with individual sizes are made only on order and in large batches. However, this product will not comply with the established GOST standards, which may adversely affect its quality and ease of use.
Of the non-standard dimensions, the most popular is the 0.7NF model, the sides of which are 25x8.5x6.5 cm. Its use will reduce the load on the foundation when restoring the facade walls of old buildings.
Blocks of the hyperpressed type are often used for finishing. This option is produced without the firing stage, but with pressing. A smooth rectangular shape has the following dimensions:
- 25x12x6.5 cm - standardized dimensions;
- 18.8x8.8x6.3 cm - hand-molded euro brick;
- 25x6x6.5 cm;
- 25x9x6.5 cm.

What are standards for?
Experiments and statements of construction specialists revealed that a structure erected from building material with standard dimensions receives the necessary strength and reliability. Masonry, where the width, length and thickness of the facing brick is 25x12x6.5 cm, is able to evenly distribute the load and properly perform the functions for its intended purpose.
These features allow the builder to reduce the physical energy costs of the builder during work. The optimal mass of one element is 3.2-5 kg, which allows the bricklayer to hold it with one hand without much effort. This is very important when building any house. The standardized dimensions of a single, double or one and a half material will help you quickly calculate the required number of elements to create a particular structure.

Types of bricks
At the moment, there are only four main types of facing bricks:
- Ceramic;
- Clinker;
- Hyperpressed;
- Silicate.
Clinker finish
The clinker is highly resistant to temperature extremes, moisture and has good soundproofing properties. It does not surpass other types of finishes in terms of thermal insulation characteristics, however, it has a high density, due to which the product does not lend itself to cracking.
It is produced from refractory clay billets, goes through the firing stage at a temperature above 1000 ° C, has a uniform structure. Available with a matte, glossy surface in various color variations.
Ceramics
Ceramic standard brick is sold in red, it is distinguished by environmental and thermal insulation performance. To achieve certain shapes and shades, various substances are added to the clay raw materials, which have a direct effect on increasing the cost.
Building materials should be purchased with a margin, otherwise you may encounter a situation of discrepancies in the shades of elements from different batches. This is due to the fact that clay in the regions of the country can have an individual color, besides, it also changes shade during firing. Often, when buying a product at different times, it can complicate the selection of a single color solution.
Until recently, Ukrainian and Russian products were popular. Today, Korean ceramic bricks, which are made from shale refractory clay, have entered the market. The main feature of the raw material is that there is no chalk and salt, that is, over time, the facade is not covered with white bloom (efflorescence), even if it was not previously covered with water repellents. At the price of such a building material, it is slightly higher than Russian counterparts, but it wins significantly in terms of quality.
Silicate
It has a wide range of shades and poor resistance to a humid environment. Do not use in areas where direct contact with groundwater or high temperatures can occur. The building material has a large mass, therefore, for finishing it is recommended to give preference to hollow types of silicate.
Hyper-pressed facing brick euro standard
It is produced using semi-dry pressing technology. 85% of the composition is assigned to crushed limestone, the remaining 15% - to cement mixtures. It has a non-uniform color, achieved with the help of an additional component - iron oxide. The technical parameters of the product are superior to those of silicate or ceramics.
How to choose the right material
When we had already decided on the look, it was the turn to figure out the quality. The assortment is very large and the lion's share in it falls on marriage, fakes and production with violation of technology. So, what you need to pay attention to when ordering products:
- The size
The standard parameter is 25x12x6.5 cm. This is a classic type suitable for any kind of finishing work. Narrow - 25x6x6.5 cm - costs, respectively, 2 times cheaper and is used exclusively for facade cladding. There is also a thin one, in fact, it is an analogue of ceramic tiles. Its dimensions are 25x2.2x6.5 cm.
Thin bricks can only be used on a perfectly flat surface. It does not mask irregularities, moreover, even with a slight mechanical impact, it simply bursts in the place of emptiness or level difference.
Even if a narrow or thin material is chosen for the facade, it is better to design the corners with standard ones. It looks more presentable and easier to use.
High-quality brick is always red in color and makes a ringing sound when struck. If the color is pale pink, the material is simply not fully fired. On the one hand, it greatly stains hands, on the other hand, it strongly absorbs water. Such a finish will not withstand the first 10 years, it will gradually collapse. The burnt one does not fit in the same way - cracks are clearly visible on it, and the surface itself looks like glass.
- Efflorescence and discoloration
This is clearly seen in combat. White inclusions indicate the presence of lime in the raw material and / or excess salts. Both the one and the other option are equally defective, and during operation there will always be whitish stains on the wall. It looks very sloppy, and it is almost impossible to get rid of it.
