3. Primer. At this point, take a pre-purchased primer for the appropriate louver material and apply to the surface. By priming, you will reduce paint consumption and improve adhesion.
4. Painting process. For aerosol cans, two or three layers are suitable, it is important to carefully paint over each place.
5. When painting with a brush, do not try to immediately achieve the perfect result. Paint in several layers, after waiting for the paint to dry.
6. Once you paint over one side of the blinds, wait until it dries completely. After that, turn the canvas over and finish painting this part.

Where are aluminum shutters needed?
According to the “statistics” cited by the websites of companies selling blinds, two types are in the greatest demand: plastic and aluminum.
With plastic systems, everything is clear:
- durable
- durable
- resistant to all weather and temperatures
- beautiful
- careful...
What is so special about aluminum structures that they were able to rise to the same level with them?
The first option is ordered mainly for the home. Many do not even know that there are other options, and a huge part of buyers want a combination of simplicity and durability, and therefore choose plastic.

As for aluminum, the situation is different here: it is also very popular, but it is used in completely different places.
The most common customers for such blinds are:
- factories, workshops
- offices
- large stores and shopping centers
- factories and other businesses
- car services and other similar organizations
They tend to make large orders, thereby comparing the bill with plastic blinds. AT residential buildings they are not in demand, if only for the simplest reason: there are many more interesting options, from which the eyes of buyers diverge. As a result, the only place in the apartment where they are sometimes used is a loggia or balcony, sometimes a kitchen.
Separately, we can say that the design of such blinds fits some of the ideas from the minimalist style, which is quite popular in the interior today.
If you want to furnish the apartment in this way, perhaps you should pay attention to light-colored plastic windows and this kind of blinds.
Benefits of aluminum shutters
Despite the fact that as "home" blinds, those made of aluminum almost do not attract the attention of consumers, they are in demand in industrial and office premises.
Where increased fire safety requirements are established, neither plastic, nor even fabric or wood, is suitable.
Let's list positive traits aluminum blinds that have won the trust of customers:
- resistance to many chemicals, temperature extremes
- practicality - easy washing
- strength, long service life
- the possibility of complete or partial darkening of the room
- excellent sun protection, which allows, among other things, to save on air conditioners by reducing power
- low price
In view of all of the above, for industrial premises, as well as for some shops and office buildings where the aesthetic part is not so important, aluminum blinds are something of a simple and economical option.
And this is reasonable, because there is no need for chic here, and the aluminum structures themselves perform only practical functions: protection from excess sunlight and heat.
However, thanks to modern species painting aluminum blinds can be turned into a real design exclusive.
Aluminum blinds are:
- horizontal
- vertical
The former are more often used for residential premises and balconies, the latter for offices and production shops, shops. If you want blinds but can't afford them - or think you can't - look to horizontal aluminum models.
They are very practical, perfectly cope with their functions, have a large range of possible colors. The paint with which they are covered is of high quality, does not fade in the sun for a long time, and is resistant to external damage.
Also, designs may differ in length and width, but these are no longer types, but features that the customer chooses. The same goes for color. Generally speaking, aluminum can be painted in any desired color.
However, each specific manufacturer has its own palette, so this issue should be clarified in advance. Large manufacturers are guided by the international RAL color scale.

Horizontal blinds can significantly help you in arranging a balcony or loggia. Sun protection is often required there, and a lot of money needs to be paid for such a square footage of windows. Plastic is beautiful and durable, but expensive. Aluminum comes to the rescue, which in this case will be the ideal economical solution.
Aluminum is also good for sliding structures of any type. Such blinds can be installed on sliding aluminum windows of balconies and loggias. The only additional cost is installation, as it is quite difficult to do it yourself.
Blinds for plastic windows. Functions and Benefits
Blinds for plastic windows perform two main functions: it is an obstacle to the ingress of light and a good replacement for curtains.
They are more durable than curtains or curtains, and their cost is much lower. With very little care (wet cleaning), they will last a very long time, while retaining their original qualities - both aesthetic and functional. Do not fade under prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and do not change color.
They have great design potential and will be an exquisite addition to the design, as appearance and the shade is selected by the client, depending on his needs. Designed for any style of interior, they create a soft cozy atmosphere in the room.
Horizontal blinds are the latest development in sun protection systems. Their cost is quite low, and they also protect your health. Even in a room with windows facing the sunny side, they create soft twilight and can reduce the air temperature by several degrees. This is very important, because it allows you to do without the installation of an air conditioner, which, as you know, adversely affects the human body. At dawn, sunlight enters the room and can interfere with normal sleep. Blinds are specially designed for plastic windows and can protect from bright light, thereby prolonging healthy sleep and maintaining health. For additional protection, you can install roller shutters on the windows, the price
which is also low.
Their undeniable advantage is compactness and ease of use. Firstly, the control takes place with the help of a single chain that lowers, turns and raises the slats. Secondly, the installation is carried out only on the area of the double-glazed window, not along the entire window opening, but on each sash separately. There is always access to the handles and the window sill remains free.
Blinds are perfectly combined with PVC windows, as they were created specifically for them. Choosing and ordering their manufacture and installation, you can also think about the complex design of the home. For example, balcony glazing will cost you inexpensively if you order it in combination with other translucent structures (more on this on our website).
Bamboo
Why of all wooden curtains Bamboo blinds are the most widely used.
Firstly,
bamboo is an eco-friendly material. In just one day, this plant grows more than one meter. For this reason, bamboo does not have time to absorb harmful substances environment, unlike other trees that take years to grow.
Secondly,
The plant has properties such as antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.
Thirdly,
Like any interior detail made of wood, wooden blinds give the room a special atmosphere of comfort.
And finally,
bamboo blinds are exotic. They will bring an indescribable feeling of comfort and warmth to any room. Also, compared to other types of wooden curtains, bamboo blinds are much lighter.
Advantages and disadvantages
The use of bamboo as a material for the manufacture of blinds does not incur any significant losses. natural resources. This is due to the rapid growth of the plant. The light weight of the products allows you to fix this type of blinds even on drywall. The advantages of bamboo blinds include such properties of this plant as:
- strength;
- moisture resistance (this allows you to install these blinds, both indoors and outdoors);
- not subject to deformation due to exposure to direct sunlight;
- the color of the blinds will not change due to exposure to sunlight (do not fade in the sun);
- the shade does not change within 5-10 years, at the same time, other wooden blinds lose their color within 2-3 years. To improve this property, the blinds are coated with a special varnish;
- a wide range of color palettes.
Most often, natural shades are used. If the lamellas (pressed strips of bamboo) are made from the outside of the stem of the plant, the color may be golden, brown or greenish. If, for the manufacture of lamellas, they take inner part trunk, blinds are beige with veins. The use of special varnishes as a coating allows you to acquire unique shades. If desired, the slats can be painted in the color you like.
- They do not require special care (it is sometimes necessary to wipe with a damp cloth).
- They are not a source of dust accumulation (unlike curtains made of fabrics).
The main disadvantage of bamboo blinds is the high cost of the product.
Even despite the high strength, the blinds can break. And the repair is very expensive (comparable to buying new plastic blinds). Blinds can be made by hand or on a machine. Naturally, the cost self made much higher than the machine. But it fully pays off the resulting aesthetic satisfaction.
Another very significant drawback is that they are prone to deform under their own weight. Therefore, for the design of large windows, several narrow blinds are used.
What to look for when choosing a blinds color
Manufacturers of blinds are trying to keep up with fashion trends, and if earlier products were presented in a small range of colors, today the product line is huge.
Based on materials
Blinds are made of wood, aluminum alloys, bamboo, different types fabric, non-woven fabric, straw, resin and synthetic materials. Modern technologies coatings allow you to paint or laminate any material in a wide variety of colors and shades, including those with imitation textures. And besides, there are many ways to decorate: gilding, patination, craquelure, casting, silvering, imprinting or photo, etc. Therefore, the color of the blinds, according to by and large, does not depend on what material they are made of, for example, wooden lamellas can be painted white, and plastic ones with wood lamination.
universal colors
All shades of beige, white, blue, textured colors are considered traditional for the colors of the blinds. natural wood from straw, honey, through walnut of different tones to cherry and dark wenge, silver gray, bronze, champagne, gold. These are neutral colors that are mainly matched to wall decoration, furniture, flooring or architraves.
accents
Blinds of non-standard colors, for example, red, green, blue, yellow, with drawings, flowers, ornaments, with photos and illustrations printed on curtains - are always accent elements of the interior. It is important that the blinds do not look like an alien element, therefore, when choosing, it is important to take into account the color scheme of the room design, including wall decoration, furniture upholstery, accessories.
For example, it was decided to hang bright accent blinds, let the walls be painted in neutral beige, and the upholstery of the furniture be red, then the blue decoration for the window would clearly be out of place. The color should be selected in the red-beige segment, you can add gold or silver, depending on the color of the handles on the doors, the base of the chandelier and other details. All elements should harmoniously intersect in color, the only way to achieve a holistic interior design that will not seem overloaded or intrusive.
What are blinds?
Most blinds can be divided into several categories. About all the features of certain types of sun protection systems will be described in detail below. Now, let's start classifying them. The first feature of blinds is their configuration. According to this principle, they are divided into 2 types:
Vertical blinds. They are based on vertical stripes made of a special material.
Horizontal blinds. Their design is based on horizontal lamellae. They can be made from various materials.
Control methods for blinds
Another point in the classification of sun protection systems is the method of control. This division is due to the fact that in recent years, more and more automated systems management. Accordingly, according to the method of control, sun protection systems are divided into 2 types:
Manual control. With this method of control, lifting and fixing the vertical position of the blinds is carried out using a rope or tape. The rotation of the slats is carried out using a stick-cane.
Automatic control. With this method of control, the rise is carried out using an electric motor, which is equipped with a cornice.
Materials for the manufacture of blinds
An important factor in the classification of blinds is the material of manufacture. From what material they are made depend on both aesthetic and practical properties. According to the types of materials of manufacture, they are divided into several types:
Plastic blinds. They are based on plastic lamellas.
Aluminum. For the production of such blinds, aluminum is used.
Wooden. For these blinds, wooden slats are used.
Fabric blinds. Planks for them are made of textile material.
Here are the main characteristics, based on which we can tell you in detail about each type of blinds. Meanwhile, it is worth considering the fact that the most common types of sun protection systems are described above. Individual manufacturers can offer, along with traditional models, completely "exotic" sun protection models.
Horizontal blinds
The concept of "horizontal blinds" should be considered as a type of construction. According to the method of execution, certain types horizontal blinds can be very different from each other.
Horizontal blinds consist of horizontal slats-lamellas located one above the other vertically. The size of the lamellas varies from 40 cm to 2 meters. The thickness of the lamellas starts from 0.3 mm. The thickness of the slats directly affects the quality of the blinds. And also the thickness of the material affects the possibility of making long lamellas without sagging.
The connection of the lamellas to each other and their fastening to the cornice occurs due to the ropes. They penetrate all the lamellas on both sides. With the help of pulling the ropes, the process of raising the slats takes place. Raising the bars is carried out using a control rope or tape. The rotation of the slats along its axis is carried out with the help of a cane. In some models, the process of raising the slats and turning them occurs only due to the control chain. Below is a diagram of the assembly of horizontal blinds.
Methods for mounting horizontal blinds
It is worth noting that, in general, the process of installing blinds is simpler in comparison with the installation of other sun protection systems or curtain rods. There are 4 main installation methods:
Down slope. The upper part of the cornice is mounted directly into the slope.
To the ceiling. The upper part of the cornice is attached to the ceiling.
On the window sash. The cornice is attached directly to the window.
Cassette blinds. They are fastened with self-tapping screws to the window using a p-shaped profile.
Cassette blinds
This type of sun protection can be written separately. Despite the fact that, in fact, cassette blinds differ only in the way they are attached, they are often taken out to separate view sun protection. Cassette models undoubtedly have special aesthetic properties. When used, the window design looks solid and complete.
In cassette models, the lamellas are located inside the cassette and slide along the guides. The cassette itself is attached to the window glazing bead. This provides more protection from the sun, since the cassette itself and the slats in it fit snugly against the window.
Blinds in the interior
Any type of sun protection systems is inextricably linked with the room in which it is located. Based on this, it is necessary to take into account the style of the interior and its functional orientation when choosing one or another type of sun protection. It is worth noting that sun protection systems, unlike curtains, are convenient to use in areas such as a balcony or a bathroom.
Blinds have long been an integral part of any office. This is facilitated by the ingrained tradition of using them for the office. However, there are several quite logical reasons for this:
As a rule, sun protection systems are less expensive than curtains.
They are easy to care for. They do not need to be washed regularly.
Blinds are more compact than traditional curtains.
The minimalistic design of the blinds fits into the interiors of most offices. Some models have a neutral appearance, which is suitable for working conditions in some companies.
If you have an atypical office or it is made according to a specific design project, you can use blinds with an expressive texture or photo printing. And you can also choose a model of sun protection in a color that matches the corporate colors of your company.
Blinds in the office
For a manager's office or an office in a private house, a more presentable version of sun protection systems can be advised. If the office has wood trim and expensive furniture, it is better to use high-quality wooden blinds. The shade of wood panels can be selected according to colors interior.
For modern cabinet ideal for aluminum blinds without painting. They look good in their natural form and fit perfectly into most modern interiors. And you can also use plain vertical blinds.
Blinds in the interior of a house or apartment
For a private interior, there are more stringent requirements for both aesthetics and the environmental properties of sun protection systems. Based on this, first of all it is worth considering models of wooden and aluminum blinds. They have an attractive appearance and are harmless to the house. Aluminum blinds are good for modern interior, wooden to create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth in the house.
In addition to window decoration, blinds can be used for interior zoning or instead of doors. For both cases, vertical blinds are best suited. With their help, you can separate a certain area from the common room. And also they can be used instead of a dressing room door, if required.
Blinds for special purpose rooms
Snow-white tulle is the most popular window decor. The main reasons to dye tulle:
- desire to change the interior;
- the need to give a fresh look to the curtain, which has lost its snow-whiteness over time.
Existing whitening products solve the problem partially and not for long.
A grayed or yellowed tulle can be replaced with a new one, or you can give it a second life by repainting it in a new color.
Fabric dyeing is an affordable and common service. Curtains can always be entrusted to specialists. However, self painting there are undeniable advantages:
- saving money and time (the process is not laborious, as a rule, it takes much less time than delivery and waiting);
- the ability to accurately select the desired color and its intensity.
On your own, tulle can be given almost any color. When choosing a dye, it is advisable to weigh the strengths and weaknesses of each. All colors can be divided into chemical and natural.
Chemical dyes
Chemicals include potassium permanganate and numerous aniline dyes, including a solution of brilliant green (brilliant green). They are very popular, their advantages:
- wide color palette;
- ease of use compared to natural ones.
The disadvantages include:
- less gentle attitude to the fabric compared to natural ones;
- the presence of a pungent odor for some, sometimes long, time after coloring.
Natural materials used for dyeing tulle
There are not so many natural colors, but their shades are quite noble, many of them are universal. Coloring is possible with tea, coffee, herbal decoctions, juices of numerous vegetables and fruits, the most popular is beetroot juice. The advantages of such dyes:
- gentle attitude to the fabric;
- the smell, if left, is not sharp and quickly disappears.
Flaws:
- limited choice of colors;
- more time-consuming preparation.
Preparing the tulle curtain for painting
The preparation process is practically no different from regular washing. The washing temperature should not exceed 30°C for synthetic fabrics and 40°C for natural fabrics.
Important! Additional attention needs to be paid to:
- shaking out the curtains before washing so that there are no small specks that can prevent uniform staining;
- gentle wringing, it is better not to wring out at all, let the water drain: creases will also prevent an even distribution of color.
How to dye tulle at home
After washing the curtain, we begin the preparation of the dye. The methods differ depending on the chosen one.
Aniline dyes
Quite comfortable to use. As a rule, it is required to dilute a certain amount of color in the appropriate amount of water, stir, soak, rinse.
Important! Before use, you must carefully study the instructions and act strictly according to it! Failure to comply with proportions can irrevocably spoil the tulle.
Zelenka
Zelenka does not completely dissolve immediately, so it is preferable to first prepare a concentrated water solution in glass. For this:
- we drop a small amount of greenery into a glass;
- fill with water and leave for 5-10 minutes;
- stir;
- if you are unsure that the particles have completely dissolved, it is better to strain before adding to a basin of water.
Mix in a bowl warm water and green solution. If you do not want to dilute the aqueous solution separately, give the brilliant green additional time to completely dissolve directly in the basin.
Attention! The concentration depends on the desired shade. If you are not sure how bright green the fabric should be, start with a pale solution. If you wish to receive more bright color, the procedure can always be repeated with a large amount of dye.
Important! The curtain is placed only in a homogeneous aqueous solution of greenery, if you want to increase the concentration, the curtain must be removed from the basin, add and stir the color, put the curtain in the basin.
For uniform coloring, the tulle must be rotated. Having received the desired color, rinse.
Potassium permanganate
Staining with potassium permanganate in lilac color is similar to staining with green:
- dissolve a small amount of potassium permanganate in a glass of water;
- leave for 5 minutes, stir;
- pour warm water into the basin;
- there we filter a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate in an amount sufficient for the desired shade;
- stir;
- soak tulle;
- for uniform staining, constantly turn it over for 15 minutes;
- rinse with cool water.
Tea or coffee
A natural dye from tea or coffee will make a brown or cream curtain:
- We brew 1-2 tablespoons of tea or coffee with boiling water, the amount of boiling water is not important (the usual cup, jar), the color will be diluted;
- strain after 7-10 minutes;
- pour water and brewed tea or coffee into the basin, mix, the temperature in the basin should be approximately 30 ° C;
- soak the tulle, constantly turn;
- having received the desired color of the curtain, rinse it with cool water.
Beetroot
Beetroot is able to dye the fabric in a pleasant beetroot color, for this you will need:
- thoroughly wash or clean the beets;
- we cut it and fill it with vodka, depending on the expected color saturation, the proportions can be from 0.5 to 1 liter of vodka per 1 kg of beets;
- cook the beets in this solution until cooked (check with a knife);
- filter the solution;
- pour warm water and strained beetroot broth into the basin;
- soak the curtain, do not forget to turn over;
- when the desired shade is reached, rinse.
Features of painting nylon tulle
The fibers of kapron fabric are more difficult to dye than the rest. To dye capron using the methods described above, it is necessary to add salt to the dye solution. The approximate norm is 1 heaping tablespoon per 10 liters of water (standard basin).
Tulle dyeing in the washing machine
Do painting with washing machine its advantages:
- facilitation of manual labor;
- more intensive mixing, respectively uniform coloring.
There are disadvantages:
- usually requires additional time;
- the risk of slight staining of white items during subsequent washing.
The principle of staining is similar to manual:
- shake out, pre-wash, but do not wring;
- dilute the dye according to the instructions ( special means) or according to recommendations (folk);
- pour the concentrate into the drum;
- we put the curtain there;
- select the washing mode without spinning;
Important! Wash in the machine only without pre-soaking, otherwise the color may be uneven.
- we take out the curtain, start the car without laundry for rinsing.
Unusual dyes for tulle
There are many natural materials that can color tulle. Here are some of them and the colors in which they are able to paint:
- calendula and dandelion - yellow;
- carrots - orange;
- onion peel - from yellow to brown;
- sorrel and yarrow - green, more natural than green;
- blackberry - black.
Conclusion
The choice of means for self-dyeing tulle depends on personal wishes and beliefs, as well as on the availability of certain coloring substances at home. Painting is a way to transform an old curtain that has already "served its own". This is a great opportunity to experiment and express yourself!
Hooray! Now we have big and beautiful curtains from the ceiling and almost to the floor. We've been dreaming about them for a couple of years now. If you have 3 meters high ceilings in your apartment, you understand what it means to find a suitable curtain...
We have encountered the following problems:
- most ready-made curtains and fabrics for their tailoring are sold no more than 2.8 m long, and more often 2.5 m;
- fabrics 2.8-3 m long are much more expensive than shorter ones;
- often the choice of long (about 3 m) fabrics is very limited: either the color is not the same, or the pattern is completely strange;
- ready-made beautiful 3-meter curtains are very expensive.
Considering all these factors, we came to the conclusion that it is necessary to find a high-quality natural fabric with a width of at least 2 meters. Cut it into 2 curtains 3 m long and dye with special fabric dyes. It pleases that modern choice paints for fabric is very large. In the old fashioned way, we thought of buying ordinary aniline dyes, which are sold in small packs in the markets. But the Internet offered us a choice of several colors foreign manufacturers. We stopped at the firm Dylon (Dylon).
When they began to delve deeper into this topic, they found out - about a miracle! – the fabric can be dyed in the washing machine! And also a wonderful palette of these colors was discovered. Nice complex colors, just in our taste. For the room, we had to choose a red-burgundy color to match and. Such a color was found, it is called: red rosewood :)
The fabric we bought for the curtains is called satin. This is a natural cotton fabric, which should be beautifully dyed. It’s only a pity that we didn’t buy it with a small margin ... We didn’t have enough to the floor by 15 cm on each curtain (after painting, the fabric sat down a little, and a little more length went into the seams). But this is also good - the lower edge will not gather dust much.
Sima is considering future curtains :)
How to sew curtains with your own hands?
To begin with, we marked the floor to cut the fabric along the marks. After all, we immediately bought 12 meters, so that kitchen curtains enough too! :)
Marking the floor to cut the fabric
Unrolled the roll. A line was drawn with a pencil under an even casing, and a curtain was cut along it.
Unwound roll

In order for the seams to turn out even, they should first be ironed out.
We smooth the seams
We wrapped the fabric twice on each side.
Roll up the fabric
How to dye a large piece of fabric with your own hands?
Sent the curtains to the launderer. This is what the paint manufacturer recommends. We dutifully implement the recommendations.
Wash fabric before dyeing
We fall asleep in the typewriter paint and salt "Extra". We paint no more than one curtain! The machine should be half empty, then the entire fabric will be dyed evenly.
Pour salt and dye into the drum
When the “dry mix” is already in the drum, turn on the machine for a couple of minutes. Then stop washing and lay the fabric. This fraud should be carried out for better dissolution of the dye in water. After painting, it is recommended to turn on another wash cycle, but now with washing powder. This is necessary in order to wash off excess paint from the product.
We wash the fabric in the paint
After the curtains were dry, we ironed them. To hang the curtains on the cornice, we decided to use crocodile clips. This will make our work easier: no need to sew on loops or tape with loops.

Hooray! Now we have beautiful curtains in the color of the painting on the wall, and they create such darkness during the day that you can easily watch movies from the projector on the screen. Now it remains only to buy a projector :)
It happened repeatedly that guests who did not yet know about our fabric dyeing with their own hands asked: “Where did you find curtains of this color?” Frankly, this question is very pleasing. So, the efforts were by no means in vain :)
We wish you a warm orange-burgundy autumn!
