Band saw for wood. Do-it-yourself band saw instructions Do-it-yourself table band saw for wood
Those who work with wood must have various tools in their workshop, and one cannot do without a band saw. Who does not have it yet, I propose to make a band saw with your own hands. With such a saw, we can cut evenly, along the contour, any pattern, any workpiece, it is very convenient and indispensable in carpentry.
Band saw for wood step by step manufacturing
I will describe the progress of the work step by step, of course, some elements still need to be finalized, I will change something over time, but in general, everything worked out for me. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, let's get it right.Let's start our work by installing the top wheel.
We take a sheet of plywood 10 mm thick, cut out three identical circles with a diameter of 30 cm from it and glue them together, this will be our wheel. We fit it with a piece of rubber (I took the rubber from the KAMAZ camera). In the garage for a long time lay an old pump from the VAZ 2109 from which I took the carrier shaft. Over time, I want to strengthen the mount to the shaft with a metal insert.
Then we need a piece metal pipe 20 × 20 and a corner, so we will make a tension mechanism and center the canvas. The next step I welded the gear to the pump with argon welding, here is the result.
I made a guide out of the same piece of plywood and ordinary bearings. (perhaps over time I will weld it from iron or bend it from aluminum).
At the bottom, the canvas is guided by two crackers made of durable wood. Behind the canvas rests on the bearing. Maybe later I will change crackers to metal ones.
The leading, main wheel here we do everything in the same way as from the top one.
More capacitors. The engine costs 1.5 kilowatts, in the calculation it had to turn with working capacitors of 100 microns. and launchers with a total amount of ~ 200 microns. , it reaches operating speed only at 300 microns.
With a file, I cheated a little and took a food saw (which cuts frozen foods, bones ...) It cuts a tree quite well, but up to 4 cm thick (a lot of sawdust that is not taken out of the cut so quickly). Having estimated a little, on reflection, I decided to cut down every third tooth of the saw. And you know, the speed increased, and sawing became easy, even a tree 20 cm thick.
A hand-made band saw is almost ready, of course, something will still need to be made for it, a solid countertop, protection, and you also need to come up with something to remove chips from the working field ... The most important thing is that the first step has been taken, and over time, everything else will be.
Wood band saw video
Do-it-yourself band saw - is it possible? There is an answer to this question, and it is positive. If you are a simple do-it-yourselfer who is faced with self-cutting raw logs when building a wooden outbuilding, chopping firewood, or if you need to update a wooden fence, then a band saw with your own hands will help you deal with this problem easily and quickly.
A band saw is necessary for sawing raw logs and chopping firewood.
Do-it-yourself band saw - the process is very laborious, this should be mentioned right away. It will take a lot of component parts, carry out welding and turning work, sharpen the saw in a special way, but the most difficult thing in this process is to achieve smooth operation of the entire complex.
It is easier, of course, to purchase a ready-made sawmill for permanent use (for commercial purposes), it is not cheap, but it will quickly pay for itself. If the desire to make such a design as a band saw for sawing wood with your own hands remains solid, then read on ...
Band saw - a step-by-step creation process
As an example, the principle of tape cutting on wood looks like this: two spools are taken from under ordinary threads, a thin braid (tape) is threaded and stretched between them. By forcibly twisting the braid, the log is cut, and the distance between the ribbons is the desired size of the beam. It is convenient to cut boards with such saws.
To make a band saw with your own hands you will need:
- Select a room where it (the created band saw) will then be operated, preferably with an area of at least 18 m 2 (approximately 6x3 m), checked.
- Then it is necessary to make the working surface of the table with a typical size - 42x72 cm. Such a table is cut out of a plywood board 20 mm thick, then textolite is glued onto the surface of the plywood rectangle. The edging of the table is made with wooden slats around the perimeter. It is also worth providing special grooves to support the wiring of the saw blades. The finished table will be a box with dimensions of 420x720x500, with a plywood thickness of 20 mm.
- Connect the support bar to the table - a section of channel 8, 68 cm long. For practical reasons, it is advisable to cut off the shelves by about 20 mm. It is recommended to fix the barbell to the table with a bracket (corner 40x40 mm), using 4 M8 bolts. Turn the saw drive pulleys out of plywood, and glue their surface with sheet rubber using polyurethane glue. Next, impregnate the pulley with epoxy, sand and paint.
- With help epoxy resin glue a duralumin bushing in which it is necessary to machine a special socket for a ball bearing. Next, the lower pulley is mounted on a steel axle, which is mounted in a box (it has two ball bearings), the axle is mounted at the lower end of the rod. At the other end of the axle, a driven pulley of the belt drive is mounted through a spacer bushing. After that, the belt pulleys are balanced.
- To dampen vibrations during operation of the band saw, you will need to install a damper. Its fixed part is attached under the desktop, and the movable part - the bar - helps to set the required gap when cutting a wooden element. The damper is made of textolite parts and mounted on M6 bolts. The upper damper is mounted on the machine with M5 bolts using a bracket above the table surface by 105 mm. Only if there is a need for the pulley to “hit the diameter”, in other cases it will simply increase the friction of the tape.
- Install a guide from a steel corner 100x100 mm. She will give wooden beam for cutting. Grinding on the machine perpendicular planes corner. A corner is installed along the edge of one shelf, on which 2 grooves must be cut to correct the gap between the tape and the guide bar. A cutout in the middle is needed to increase the moves of the bar. For safety reasons, it is desirable to insulate the upper pulley assembly with a protective cover.
- To form the band saw itself, that is, the saw band. This product must be very flexible, made of cold rolled sheet steel (U8 or U10), with a thickness of 0.2-0.4 mm (0.4-0.8 for harder rocks), a length of 1600-1700 mm for the dimensions described machine. Before sealing the tape into a ring, you will need to cut teeth on it at 3 mm intervals. The soldering is done with gas burner, the place of soldering is sprinkled with borax beforehand, and after soldering, PSR-40 solder is applied. Additionally, it is desirable to grind the place of soldering and once again finally press the seam closely with pliers. Sharpen and slightly spread the teeth to the sides for the most effective cut.
This method of producing a band saw is considered artisanal. When working, safety measures should be observed, since if the saw band breaks, it flies off to the side, so you should not stand nearby when the band saw is in operation.

The complexity of making a homemade band saw
Welding is required to make a homemade band saw.
With a heavy load of sawing wood, up to 300 kg, the band saw must be as stable as possible, the installation itself must meet all the requirements of safety rules during operation. When assembling, you will need to use welding, power tools, milling machine, to be able to correctly sharpen the saw band.
There is also an option to order or buy a ready-made belt mechanism frame with wheels, to purchase metal trolley wheels and band saws for it. Do-it-yourself production of such parts will require experience and high-precision finishing with special tools.
Having assembled such a structure, it is necessary to install guides using I-beams, channels, as well as corners or anchors for the stability of the support under them every 0.5 m. Maintaining the geometry, weld all the parts together. When installing the guides in this way, it is necessary to leave a margin for the largest log up to 70 cm. Next, the wheels, the frame of the belt mechanism itself and the electric motor through the pulley are attached to the trolley.
Tip: Consider a mechanism for changing the horizontal movement of the saw relative to the log.
By moving the trolley relative to the fixed log, a horizontal layer of wood is cut off - this is how boards are made.
Any construction or major repairs are unlikely to do without boards and various bars. In this case, all this material must be cut to the desired size.
Of course, you can buy ready-made boards or bars. But this will require large financial costs. Therefore, many home craftsmen and professionals prefer to do everything themselves.
And for this you need the right tool, for example, a band saw. And in this case, you should not immediately run to the store to buy a machine.
If you have a little experience, then you will definitely get a homemade band saw. And the technology of its manufacture will be discussed in this article.
Preparatory stage
A do-it-yourself band saw will cost less than its factory version. But in order to make everything right, you should first deal with the design itself. The band saw is designed for sawing large diameter wooden workpieces. As a rule, with its help, boards or bars are made from logs.
The design itself is a frame on which the electric motor and pulleys are mounted. The first is necessary for the rotation of the pulleys on which the cutting blade is fixed. It is with its help that the workpiece is cut.
Before starting work on creating a band saw for wood, it is worth making a drawing. With it, all further work will be faster and clearer for you.

- electric motor;
- pulleys from old agricultural machinery. Best suited are those that have a diameter of 30 centimeters;
- sheets of plywood or chipboard to create a cabinet;
- the cutting blade itself;
- welding machine and metalwork tool
You must first make a frame (according to the previously drawn up drawing). It is made from a channel (100) by welding. The height of the frame should be about one and a half meters. It is also desirable to make a box under the frame, chips will be collected in it. This design is easy to make from sheets of plywood or chipboard.

A homemade band saw consists of several basic elements. First of all, it's a frame. It is on it that the rest of the components will be attached. An electric motor is mounted on the frame, which is connected to the pulley. You also need to make a device for feeding a log (or other wooden blank) for cutting.
Let's move on to the pulleys. They are used in the design of two pieces. In this case, the right pulley will be driven, so it does not require rigid fixation. It must be equipped with a spring, which is responsible for the tension of the web. The left pulley, which is the leading one, is fixed rigidly in its place.
The pulleys themselves are mounted on special guides made of pipes. In this case, it is necessary to provide for their fixation with bolts. The pulleys must be sharpened so that the edges of the tape protrude a couple of centimeters. Also, the cutting blade itself is installed with a slight slope. In this case, it will stretch itself, which will prevent the tape from falling off during the operation of the machine.

Drive shaft of the tape machine
After preparation, all parts are mounted on the frame. The pulleys are connected to the electric motor using a belt drive (you can mount a chain drive). Next, the power buttons are installed and the manual band saw for wood is ready for use.
Highly important element such a machine is a cutting blade. Some craftsmen make a saw with their own hands. To do this, you can purchase special blanks from steel strips. Further, using templates, sharpening is done.
Place of soldering
Blanks are produced in the form of strips, and a “ring” is needed for the machine. For this, the workpieces are welded. This requires a complex method. The fact is that the overlap should not work out. The connection of the strip into a single ring is done end-to-end. After welding, the joint is carefully polished.
Such complexity of manufacturing a cutting blade forces many to buy ready-made saws. Today, there are a wide range of such products in stores. The main thing is to choose the size of the cutting blade so that it fits your pulleys.
In addition, when choosing a saw, you should pay attention to the thickness. The larger this indicator, the greater the radius of curvature of the canvas. For a more accurate selection, you can use special tables.
A DIY band saw can quickly recoup the time and money spent on its production. But this will be true if you follow the recommendations for the operation of such equipment. Experts give such advice:
the cutting blade must be properly tensioned. The magnitude of this tension will depend on the grade of steel used in the manufacture of the saw, as well as its width. This indicator can be measured using special device- "Tyrzometer";
do not think that the saw will be able to work continuously for a long time. Experts recommend the following mode of operation - two hours of sawing, then the canvas is removed and hung out in a free state for 12-24 hours. In this way, you can extend the life of the saw;
always use a lubricant, especially if you are sawing fresh wood. Freshly felled trees produce abundant resin. Its mass begins to clog the incisors. As a result, the saw begins to warm up and quickly fails. For lubrication (and simultaneous cooling), you can use ordinary water with the addition of a simple detergent. AT winter period experts recommend using a mixture of diesel fuel and engine oil;
Loosen the cutting blade after finishing work. When cut, it heats up and expands a little. After the end of work, the canvas begins to cool and decrease in size. If you leave it in a taut state, then marks from the pulleys will form, in place of which scuffs will subsequently turn out;
follow the rules for sharpening teeth. Both the speed of the work itself and the service life of the cutting blade will depend on this. Also, make sure that the teeth are always well sharpened and their correct divorce is observed.
It is also necessary to strictly observe safety precautions. A band saw is a rather traumatic piece of equipment. It is best to equip it with a protective cover. Such an addition will increase the safety of work, and help to improve the removal of sawdust.
Also, carefully consider the choice of the installation location of the machine. Of course, a homemade band saw does not take up much space. But still, there should be enough space around for free movement.
In addition, take care of high-quality lighting of the workplace. Quite often, such a machine is installed on the street. In this case, try to work only during daylight hours or with a good street lamp.
From the video you will learn how to make a band saw with your own hands from available materials.
The band saw for wood is one of the main types of equipment for the woodworking industry. At home, it can be successfully replaced with a simple electric jigsaw, but the device allows you to perform work in much larger volumes.
Small labor intensity and material consumption in manufacturing, allow you to make a hand-made band saw machine for wood. After all, why spend extra money on the purchase of expensive imported equipment, when you can independently assemble a device with your own hands that is not inferior in performance?
1 General information
Usage band saw machine on wood allows you to make cuts with your own hands, with accuracy not inferior to cutting with a jigsaw. Because of this, they are often called jigsaw-type band saws. The principle of operation of such machines was proposed in the 19th century and to this day remains relevant in the field of woodworking.
Of course modern models on the head surpass the first woodworking machines both technologically and differ in design features, but the basic elements and the principle of operation remained the same. The main such feature remains the hole saw, which can perform straight and curved cuts.
The woodworking band saw can carry out both high-precision cuts and rough processing work. Due to this feature, these machines are used for carpentry purposes in furniture factories and various woodworking enterprises.
1.1 Application of the band saw
Band saws are common in their application with most known building materials. First of all, it is work with wood, as well as with plastic and foam. In the manufacture of furniture, such machines find their role in cutting long boards with a large thickness, sawing out individual wooden elements.
In addition to wood, band machines do an excellent job of processing and cutting metal. Machining work with cast iron, non-ferrous and ferrous metals, stainless steel and even high-strength metal alloys is possible.
Band saws have a lot of advantages that are not available with other devices:
- the ability to carry out cuts of workpieces, the thickness of which reaches 400 millimeters;
- performing cuts of complex configurations that are inaccessible to other machines;
- implementation of cuts of a curvilinear type;
- band saw work leave a minimum amount of waste in the form of dust and chips, due to the fact that the cut of the workpiece is even and clean;
- band saw woodworking machine takes up little space, and also has a small weight, so that it can be installed at the workplace without the involvement of special equipment;
- the noise of the saw does not cause discomfort to the machine operator and does not disturb others if the machine is located near residential buildings;
- the simple design of the device allows you to make a band saw machine with your own hands.
2 Main types of band saws
Before purchasing a band saw, it is advisable to familiarize yourself with its technical specifications, as well as with the ability to perform the work you need. Conventionally, band saws can be divided into groups according to the difference in the following indicators:
- volume of production per unit of time;
- belt width in the machine;
- angle of rotation;
- number of speed modes.
The division into machines for domestic use and for industrial production is carried out mainly due to the difference in the width of the tape. Tape with a width of up to 13 millimeters is mainly used for small, domestic volumes of material processing. In industry, tapes with a width of 19 millimeters are common.
The saw blade can be positioned vertically and horizontally. These band saws are divided into vertical and horizontal. A large-sized vertical apparatus has only a console with a working element from moving elements.
Band saws also differ in the way they feed the workpiece under the working body. Automatic machines are common in the mass production of products that are mass-produced. The material is fed using a vise and an electric motor.
Semi-automatic machines are mainly used in the procurement industry. Their main difference can be called the possibility of manipulating the saw frame when using the automatic mode. Manual machines assume the supply of material with their own hands and are used primarily in domestic household production.
Among others, it is worth highlighting the MP9-1668-006 woodworking band saw. Produced in Belarus, the MP9-1668-006 sawmill allows you to process parts with a width of 80 to 400 millimeters and a length of 1200 to 8200 millimeters. The MP9-1668-006 machine has a power of 7.5 kW and operates under a voltage of 380V. The web speed reaches 33 m/s.

2.2 Design features
Before purchasing, or, especially, making a machine with your own hands, it is necessary to study in detail the structure of the device of this model in order to have a complete picture of the design and capabilities of the unit.
The main elements of each machine are:
- saw;
- Electrical engine;
- working platform;
- C-shaped bed;
- upper and lower pulleys;
- guide elements;
- protective shutters.
In case of unforeseen situations, the brake mechanisms come into play, which instantly stop the saw. With a possible break of the tape, the safety of production is guaranteed by clamps that stop it. It is possible to install an additional element, which can adjust the width of the intended cut - the guide line.
2.3 How the machine works
The instruction for working with the machine involves several mandatory steps, working on the principle of a tape machine mechanism. First, the wooden blank is properly fixed in order to avoid vibration of the desktop. This affects the convenience of working with the machine and directly on production volumes.
Then the workpiece is cut along the guide line, or a movable fence can be used. Figured cutting is carried out clearly along the contour of the applied markings, as well as using special devices that ensure the supply of workpieces.
Band saws for wood can be used for curved and straight cuts, as well as figured and cut wood at an angle of 45 degrees.
If cutting is used in automatic mode, then the feeder removable device greatly facilitates the work process. The automatic feeder is a bracket with rollers on which the workpiece is placed.
With its help, when carrying out the necessary manipulations, cutting and sawing becomes much easier to manage. And most importantly, we must not forget that any electrical equipment is a source of potential danger, and requires the necessary precautions when working with it.
2.4 Making a band saw with your own hands
Making a tape machine for wood with your own hands does not require special skills, but only basic ideas in metal and wood processing.
First of all, all the required sketches of the product and its main components are performed. Then, with their own hands, the frame of the desktop is welded according to the completed drawing. Classic sizes tables have dimensions of 420 × 720 millimeters.
A tabletop must be installed on the frame. Preferably made from plywood. 20 mm thick, followed by gluing with textolite. Then it is necessary to attach a carrier bar to the table, which can be made using channel No. 8. Welding is used to secure the rod transverse profile to the corner.
Next, you need to make the basis for the upper and lower pulley. This can be done using plywood 20 millimeters thick, covering the working surface of the pulleys with sheet rubber. The working surface must necessarily be barrel-shaped in order to be able to hold the saw band. With the help of epoxy resin, a duralumin bushing is glued in, in which the bearing seat is preliminarily machined.
The lower pulley is put on a steel axle and fixed with three screws. The axle is inserted into the axle box, where 2 ball bearings are installed. The box itself is installed in the lower zone of the rod. A belt drive is attached to the second end of the axle.
An engine is installed inside the table, on which the drive pulley is attached. Both the first and second pulleys must be located in the same plane and connected by one belt drive.
A support is fixed on the upper part of the rod and an adjusting screw is attached to it. The upper pulley is fixed on the axis where the slider is located. The resulting knot is fixed on the bar and fixed with a special feint.
In the place where the canvas passes through the table, it is required to install a home-made textolite damper, which reduces the overall vibration of the installation. Further, with their own hands, a casing is made of sheet steel that protects the working canvas. At the end of the work, a switch with a wire and a plug is installed. From it, the wiring is connected to the electric motor. This completes the manufacture of a tape machine for wood with your own hands.
The edged board is an environmentally friendly and easy-to-process material, but the cost of 1 cubic meter of quality wood will be quite expensive. In the event that you need to purchase a large number of building materials, many home craftsmen are thinking about making lumber on their own.
For self-production of high-quality boards or timber, one cannot do without the use of special woodworking devices. New equipment will cost tens of thousands of rubles. Therefore, if you want to do self-manufacturing such a device, the article will describe step by step guide how to make a band sawmill with your own hands with minimal financial costs.
A band sawmill is a machine that performs longitudinal sawing of logs. Thanks to the ability to precisely adjust the position of the cutting surface, it is possible to produce lumber of various thicknesses.
The design of the sawmill consists of the following main elements:
- Band saw.
- clamping mechanism.
- frame movement mechanism.
- Web height adjustment devices.
An electric motor with a power of at least 5 kW is installed on the machine. A sawmill with an engine from a walk-behind tractor can be made, but the noise of such an installation will be much higher than when using an electric unit.
During the operation of the installation, the torque is transmitted by means of a belt drive to the working pulleys on which the saw blade is mounted. The saw mechanism must necessarily have in its design a spring or hydraulic tensioner for automatically adjusting the pulley extension width in order to compensate for the thermal expansion of the metal band during operation.
For processing roundwood, the frame with the installed band saw and the power plant moves along the fixed material along the rails installed on the concrete base. Adjustment of the height of the saw blade relative to the lower point of the sawmill is carried out by a screw mechanism, which is designed in such a way as to exclude the possibility of distortion during operation of the installation.
To securely hold the log during sawmill operation, the workpiece is placed between the guides and fixed with special hooks. After laying and fixing the log, the operator makes a smooth movement of the movable part of the installation, during which the cutting of the upper part of the log occurs. After completing one cycle, the cutting surface is lifted and the frame moves to its original position.
When using a homemade sawmill, you will need to move the carriage over the log manually, while factory settings allow you to almost completely automate the lumber manufacturing process. The quality of the timber or board, with proper manufacture do-it-yourself sawmills do not differ from materials produced on modern equipment.
What you need for a homemade sawmill
It is possible to independently manufacture complex devices and mechanisms from metal only if you have the skills to use it. A do-it-yourself band sawmill cannot be mounted without welded joints.
Except welding machine you will need to prepare the following tools for work:
- Electric drill.
- Drills for concrete and metal.
- Pliers.
- Spanners.
- Set of locksmith clamps.
- Building level.
- Nuts and bolts.
- Concrete mixer.
To make the base of the sawmill, you will need a concrete mixer. In the absence of a factory model, the device can be made independently from a steel barrel.
To install a homemade woodworking installation, you will need to purchase the following materials:
- Metal corner 50 mm.
- Rollers or ball bearings.
- profile pipe.
- Steel pipe.
- Electric or gasoline engine.
- 2 long screws with nuts.
- Chain transmission.
- Wheels and hubs from passenger car.
- Cement, sand and crushed stone for concrete mortar.
When all the tools and materials are prepared, it is necessary to make drawings of a sawmill for wood.
Drawings for a homemade sawmill
To make a drawing homemade machine, it is enough to draw on paper a reduced copy of a woodworking device indicating the dimensions of each part and mechanism.
When designing a band sawmill, it is advisable to set the length value to at least 6 and the width to 3 meters. Only in this case it will be possible to produce homemade device sawn timber of standard length.
According to the sketches of the woodworking installation, it will not be difficult to calculate the amount of materials for the manufacture of the frame and guide rails. In order to strengthen the structure between the two parallel corners of the guides, transverse amplifiers must be installed, the distance between which should not exceed 1 meter.
If a do-it-yourself band sawmill made by yourself will be used indoors, then you will need to make a drawing of only the main device. When placing a woodworking plant in an open area, it is advisable to make a canopy, a drawing of which should also be drawn up before proceeding with the practical implementation of this project.
Making the foundation
Only a properly prepared base for the sawmill will allow the frame with the saw mechanism to move evenly. The slab on which the guide rails will be installed is made according to the principle of erecting a conventional strip foundation.
The base must be poured on a gravel-sand cushion with a thickness of at least 15 cm.
To increase the strength of the slab, a metal reinforcing mesh is laid on the base before concrete is poured. After pouring concrete, it must be cured for at least 2 weeks in order to achieve maximum strength of the base.
Making a sawmill: step by step instructions
Homemade band sawmill do-it-yourself mounted using wheels from a car, belt drive and engine.
A corner or channel is used as guides. The corner is used with a section of at least 50 * 50 mm. The material is laid strictly parallel, with the inner edge up, at a pre-calculated distance.
Then sleepers are installed between the corners, which are cut from profile pipe section 50 * 100 mm. When welding the transverse reinforcements, care must be taken not to overheat the guides, which can be caused by high temperatures. When the sleepers are welded to the guides, fixation is made metal structure to concrete base with anchor bolts.
After finishing work on fixing the rail to the concrete base, on which the carriage will move, a bed is installed in the middle part of the "railway" track to fix the timber. To hold the roundwood, an H-shaped post with side ledges is welded to the sleepers. The minimum height of the retaining device rod must not be less than 100 mm.
Ball bearings can be used as sawmill rollers. 2 bearings must be selected for each axle of the frame larger diameter and 4 - 6 smaller. The difference in diameter depends on the height of the corner rib. For example, if a 50 * 50 mm angle is used as a guide, then the difference in the outer diameters of the bearings should be 100 mm. In this case, the internal diameters of the parts must be equal.
The manufacture of the frame begins with the installation of 2 guides from steel pipe. The guides are installed in a vertical position, after which sliders are mounted on them, the inner diameter of which should be minimally different from the outer diameter of the guide pipes.
The carriage bed is welded from a profile pipe. This element should be a reliable rectangular structure, on which vertical guides will then be welded, and in the lower part - an axle with bearings.
The movement of the carriage in the vertical plane is carried out using a screw mechanism, which is installed on both sides of the guide tubes. The nut is welded to the slider, and long studs are fixed at the top of the frame. In order to ensure easy rotation of the adjusting mechanism, it is recommended to install the studs on the bearings on both sides.
To ensure synchronous rotation of the screw mechanism, small bicycle sprockets of the same diameter should be welded to each stud, between which a chain drive is made using a bicycle chain. To ensure a constant tension of the chain mechanism, its design must necessarily have a roller, on the lever of which a spring is installed.
Wheels and hubs from a rear-wheel drive car will be used as pulleys in a homemade sawmill. To ensure easy rotation of the drive, it is necessary to assemble the bearing assembly, which will be welded on both sides to the cross member of the carriage. A pulley is installed on one of the hubs, to which torque will then be transmitted from an electric or gasoline engine.
To increase the safety of using the saw mechanism, a saw support assembly is installed at the bottom of the carriage near each of the wheels, which consists of an axle on which several small-diameter ball bearings are installed. From the side of the hub on which the pulley was installed, the power unit is mounted.
If a motor is used internal combustion, then a spring-loaded roller is used to tension the V-belt drive. To tension the belt in the case of using an electric motor, the unit is installed on a small platform that can be moved in a horizontal plane.
On the next step a container for lubricating and washing liquid is installed on the sawmill, from which it is necessary to bring the tube to the cutting unit. Then, a casing is made of a metal corner and tin over the cutting unit, after which you can start the first start-up of a home-made woodworking machine, having previously installed a band saw between the wheels.
