The electric generator is vertical. Let's make a wind generator with our own hands. A typical set of automation includes
Amounts to be paid for utilities are growing every year. This is especially true for electricity. But not everyone knows that it can be obtained literally from the air, or rather, with the help of wind power.
Thanks to which this is possible, they are called wind generators. The purchase of such equipment will not be cheap. However, you can save money by making a vertical windmill with your own hands.
Unlike other methods of generating energy, windmills have a lot of advantages, such as:
- environmental friendliness
- operation without fuel
- energy saving
- uncomplicated maintenance
- usage inexhaustible source energy
In addition, a good windmill will make the house an autonomous point for the production of electricity.
There are practically no disadvantages of wind generators, however, they have minor disadvantages:
- high cost of installations (factory models)
- noise
- excess energy requires additional batteries
- power variability
The last drawback is the most significant, however, it can be eliminated by supplementing the installation with batteries. In addition, the effect of wind generators depends entirely on the variability of weather conditions.
As you can see, the wind generator has more advantages, which indicates the profitability of its use.
Who benefits from it
There are a lot of types of wind generators, and even more so subspecies. Which device should be installed on one or another depends on the following factors:
- local wind speed
- device purpose
- estimated cost
Before installing the windmill directly, you need to think several times: will the costs pay off. First you need to determine the speed and direction of the wind in the area intended for installation.
You can get this information in two ways: on your own or contact the local weather service. The first option will require a portable station that can be rented or purchased.
The advantage of independent measurements is their accuracy, however, a full-fledged study will take at least one year. The data received in the weather service will have approximate values, but will not require the cost and time for additional calculations.
To install a wind turbine, the wind speed indicator for the year must be at least 4.5 m / s-5m / s.
At values of about 4-5 m/s, the energy generated by a medium power generator will be equal to 250 kWh per month. This is enough to provide electricity to a house for 3-4 people with heating and hot water. A windmill can generate up to 3 thousand kWh per year. The cost of installing such a wind generator is approximately 180 thousand rubles.
Creating your own installation is many times cheaper. At the same time, it is worth considering the constant increase in electricity tariffs. Thus, the wind turbine can be a good alternative source of electricity.
Where to install
Choosing a place to install a windmill is one of the most milestones. Best Option there will be a free elevated point. It is important that the wind generator is not located below the level of the nearest and buildings that will impede the flow of wind.
Most suitable places for the installation of wind generators: steppes, banks of water bodies, deserts and hills. In such areas, strong and constant winds often blow.
In multi-apartment or urban environments, you can place the generator on the roof. This procedure should be coordinated with the relevant authorities. In order to make sure that the vibrations of the windmill do not harm the roof, it is worth examining its design.
So that the noise from the generator does not annoy, it should be installed at a distance of 15-25 m from residential buildings.
One of the main parameters of a windmill is the location of the rotational mechanism (shaft) relative to the earth's surface. On this basis, devices are divided into horizontal and vertical.
The first ones work on the principle of a windmill: the mechanism rotates in search of wind and the blades start moving from the slightest air currents.
This type of device produces a large number of electricity, which will be a lot for a private house.
Windmills with a vertical axis of rotation will ideal solution to provide electricity to a small area or private production.
In addition, this device has the following advantages:
- regardless of wind direction
- unaffected by the weather
- works even at low speeds
- the area of the blades is 2 times larger than that of horizontal windmills
The vertical wind generator also has disadvantages: low efficiency and high level noise. But, these disadvantages are insignificant in comparison with the overall benefits of the device.
So, a horizontal windmill can be installed directly on the roof, and a vertical one should be kept at a distance.
How to turn wind into heat
Even from a low-power windmill, you can get heat for the whole house. One of the easiest to implement is a heating system with natural circulation.
By installing a vertical windmill with your own hands for heating, you can save a decent amount. In addition, when using the system natural circulation together with a wind generator, you do not need to spend money on a pump.
The heating scheme includes:
- Boiler
- Conductive straight pipe (for delivering heated water)
- Radiators
- Return pipe (to deliver cooled water back)
The boiler is installed below the level of the entire system. This is necessary to ensure a natural supply of water to it.
With the help of straight and return pipes, the radiators are connected in series, respectively, to the upper and lower parts of the boiler. The water heated in it will be squeezed upwards, falling alternately into the radiators.
Such a system will significantly save on heating the house. In addition, it will regulate the temperature in the room.
Wind generator accessories
To design even the simplest vertical windmill with your own hands (220 V), you need to purchase the main components:
- rotor - the moving part of the generator
- blades
- mast - may have different design(tripod, pyramid)
- stator - coils with copper wire are located on it
- battery
- inverter - converts direct current into alternating current
- controller - designed to “brake” the generator when its power exceeds the set value
For the manufacture of blades, it is best to use sheet plastic. Other materials are subject to severe deformation and damage. The larger the area of the intended part, the denser the plastic should be.
When choosing a material, it is important to make sure that it is high-quality PVC, otherwise you will have to spend money on new components again and make complex calculations.
Thus, to create your own windmill, you will not need expensive or rare parts.
Vertical Windmill vs. Horizontal
To understand which windmill design works more efficiently, it is worth considering in more detail the features of each of them. The horizontal generator has the following advantages:
- effective in any direction of air flow
- takes up much less space than vertical
- operates at high speeds even with low wind speeds
- has a simple design
- does not make noise
In addition, horizontal wind turbines are made of lightweight materials and can even be mounted on a lamppost. When placed along the road, such structures work even in calm weather.
The service life of wind turbines of both types is approximately the same. Proper Care and maintenance allow them to operate effectively for up to 25 years. In horizontal windmills, the main load falls on the hub and bearing assembly. Vertical products experience more pressure on the blades.
The biggest difference between these types of windmills is their price. Horizontal ones cost the owners of such structures much more.
Such a wind turbine is best used in areas with increased turbulence and frequent changes in wind direction. Vertical are more suitable for open areas with constant speed winds above 4.5 m/s.
Based on the results of the comparison, many gardeners choose vertical type wind generator.
Preparation of vertical windmill parts
The blades are made from various materials. The main condition is that they should be light.
Most simple option will be the manufacture of blades from PVC pipes.
They are less exposed to sunlight and are quite durable.
For a vertical windmill, 4 PVC parts and 2 tin parts are created. The latter are cut in the form of semicircles and fastened on both sides of the pipe.
The blades are attached to the frame in a circle. The radius of rotation of the blades will be 690 mm. The height of each blade is 700 mm.
When assembling the rotor, you will need the following parts:
- 6 neodymium magnets and 2 ferrite
- discs with a diameter of 230 mm (2 pieces)
Neodymium magnets should be placed on one disk, while not forgetting to change their polarity, alternating during installation. Between them it is required to observe an angle of 60 degrees, with a diameter of 165 mm. Ferrite magnets should be attached to disk 2 in the same way. Then they need to be filled with glue.
In order to start manufacturing the stator, you need to wind 9 coils of 60 turns. Usually used for this copper wire with a diameter of 1 mm. The coils are then soldered to each other as follows:
- start 1 connects to end 4
- 4 - from 7
The second phase is assembled in exactly the same way, only soldering occurs from the second coil, and accordingly, the third phase is soldered to coil 3. From plywood you need to make a special form. A piece of fiberglass is placed in it, and then coils.
The final step is to fill the structure with glue. A day later, the stator is ready for operation.
Now that all the parts of the generator are done, they only need to be connected:
- Studs will subsequently be present at the top. For them you need to make holes (4 pieces). They are designed for a smooth "landing" of the rotor in place.
- Holes are also made in the stator - for the bracket.
- The lower rotor rests on it (magnets up).
- Then the stator is installed.
- The second rotor is placed on top with the magnets facing down. Parts are fixed to each other with nuts.
The design of the vertical generator also requires detailed consideration. Its main disadvantages include low efficiency and a greater number of parts compared to horizontal. On the other hand, such a product can work effectively even with a small wind.
A horizontal generator is more reliable because it can withstand strong gusts of wind. The noiselessness of this type of construction is also one of its most important advantages. You can install a horizontal windmill even on the roof of a residential building.
Thus, it is not very difficult to assemble the main parts of a windmill.
Wind generator design
The wind generator is a wheel with blades attached to it, a gearbox (converts and transmits torque), a battery and an inverter.
The assembly of the product structure is carried out as follows:
- Preparation of a three-point reinforced foundation.
- The mast is made of durable pipes (you can take water pipes). It should take out the rotor above the attic.
- Screwing the generator to the finished mast.
- Attaching the frame with blades to the generator.
- Fastening the mast to the foundation and its additional fixation with the help of stretching.
Collection electrical network is also carried out in a certain sequence.
The windmill must produce three-phase alternating current, which is converted to direct current using a bridge rectifier. A standard automotive relay is used to control the charge level. An inverter is connected to the battery, which produces 220 V AC.
Thus, the following results of the finished windmill operation at different wind speeds are obtained:
- 5 m/s - 15W
- 10.4 m/s - 45 W
- 15.4 m/s - 75 W
- 18 m/s - 163 W
There are several ways to increase the power output of a generator. For example, if you increase the height of the mast to 26 meters, the average annual wind speed rises to 30%. At the same time, electricity is generated 1.5 times more. This is ensured by eliminating the influence of buildings and trees on the speed of air flows.
So, in order for the windmill to work efficiently, you need to calculate its design characteristics in advance.
Windmill Care
The following procedures are carried out as regular maintenance of the structure:
- lubrication of moving parts (at least 2 times a year)
- tightening bolts and electrical connections
- checking mechanisms for rust and loose stretch marks
- blade breakage control
The most common damage to a windmill is blade breakage. In winter, a crust of ice appears on them. Frequent cleaning will extend the life of the structure.
Parts are painted as needed. Once a year, you need to completely inspect the structure for damage.
A homemade windmill is very different in terms of power from factory products. This is due to inaccurate calculations. A horizontal windmill with a theoretical power of 101 watts will produce only 90, and a vertical one with 69 watts will produce about 60.
In order not to be disappointed in low rates homemade design, it is worth making it with design parameters 2 times higher than necessary.
Thus, assembling a vertical windmill is a fairly simple option for providing a residential building with electricity. This is due to the ease of assembly of the structure, the low cost of the project and high efficiency device operation. In addition, it requires minimal maintenance, and generates electricity constantly. How to make a windmill yourself is presented in the video:
It is difficult not to notice how the stability of electricity supplies to suburban facilities differs from the provision of urban buildings and enterprises with electricity. Admit that you, as the owner of a private house or cottage, have repeatedly encountered interruptions, inconveniences and damage to equipment associated with them.
Listed negative situations together with the consequences, they will no longer complicate the life of lovers of natural spaces. And with minimal labor and financial costs. To do this, you just need to make a wind power generator, which we describe in detail in the article.
We have described in detail the options for manufacturing a system that is useful in the economy, eliminating energy dependence. According to our advice, an inexperienced person can build a wind generator with his own hands House master. A practical device will help to significantly reduce daily expenses.
Alternative energy sources are the dream of any summer resident or homeowner whose site is located far from the central networks. However, when we receive bills for electricity consumed in a city apartment, and looking at the increased tariffs, we realize that a wind generator created for domestic needs would not hurt us.
After reading this article, perhaps you will make your dream come true.
A wind generator is an excellent solution for providing a suburban facility with electricity. Moreover, in some cases, its installation is the only possible way out.
In order not to waste money, effort and time, let's decide: are there any external circumstances that will create obstacles for us in the process of operating a wind turbine?
To provide electricity to a summer house or a small cottage, it is enough, the power of which will not exceed 1 kW. Such devices in Russia are equated to household products. Their installation does not require certificates, permits or any additional approvals.
Reading time ≈ 4 minutes
You can significantly reduce electricity bills and provide yourself with a backup source of energy in the country by making a wind generator with your own hands.
Buying a ready-made wind generator is economically justified only if there is no possibility of connecting to the power grid. The cost of equipment and Maintenance is often higher than the price of kilowatts that you will buy from the utility company over the next few years. Although, when compared with the use of gasoline or diesel generators low power, here an environmentally friendly energy source wins in terms of maintenance costs, noise level, and the absence of harmful emissions. Temporary lack of wind can be compensated by using batteries with a voltage converter.
A wind turbine assembled using some DIY parts can be several times cheaper than a ready-made kit. If you are serious about making your Vacation home non-volatile, while you don’t want to overpay anyone - a home-made wind generator is the right decision.
Wind generator power
Before starting work, you need to decide whether there is a real need for a powerful wind generator, for example, for cooking, using power tools, heating water or heating. Maybe it's enough for you to connect lighting, a small refrigerator, TV, recharge your phone? In the first case, you need a windmill with a power of 2 to 6 kW, and in the second, you can limit yourself to 1-1.5 kW.
There are also horizontal and vertical wind generators. With a vertical axis, blades of the most diverse shapes can be used, these can be flat or curved sheets of metal rotating on extensions. There is a variant with one twisted blade. The generator itself is located near the ground. Since the speed of the blades is low, the engine has a large mass and, accordingly, the cost. advantage vertical design is simplicity and the ability to work in light winds.
This review will address the question of how to make a horizontal wind generator with your own hands. For it you can use different types available generators and converted electric motors.
The design of the wind generator for 220V:
- Electric generator of industrial production.
- Blades for a wind turbine and a swivel mechanism on the mast.
- Battery charging control circuit.
- Connecting wires.
- Mounting mast.
- Stretch marks.
We will use a DC motor from the "treadmill", it has the following parameters: 260V, 5A. We will get the generator effect due to the reversibility of the magnetic fields of this type of electric motors.
Necessary materials and accessories
You can easily find all the details in hardware or building stores. We will need:
- threaded sleeve of the desired size;
- diode bridge, rated for current 30-50A;
- PVC tube.
The tail and body of the windmill can be made from the following materials:
- Steel profile pipe 25 mm;
- masking flange;
- Branch pipes;
- bolts;
- washers;
- self-tapping screws;
- Scotch.
Assembling the wind generator according to the drawings
The blades of the windmill can be made of duralumin according to the given drawings. The part must be sanded with high quality, while making the front edge rounded and sharpening the back. For the shank, a piece of tin of sufficient rigidity is suitable.
We fix the sleeve to the electric motor, and on its body we drill three holes at an equal distance from each other. They need to be threaded for bolts.
We will cut the PVC tube lengthwise and use it as a seal between the square tube and the generator housing.
We will also fix the diode bridge near the motor using self-tapping screws.
We connect the black wire from the engine to the plus of the diode bridge, and the red to the minus.
We fasten the shank with self-tapping screws to the opposite end of the pipe.
We connect the blades to the hub using bolts, be sure to use two washers and a grower for each bolt.
We twist the sleeve onto the motor shaft counterclockwise, holding the axis with pliers.
We screw the branch pipe to the masking flange using a gas wrench.
It is necessary to find the equilibrium point on the pipe with the fixed motor and shank. At this point, we fix the structure to the mast.
All metal parts that may be subject to corrosion, it is desirable to cover with high-quality enamel.
A wind generator for a private house should be installed at some distance from the main buildings, the mast must be secured with steel cable braces. The height depends on the possible strength of the wind, the terrain and artificial obstacles surrounding the power plant.
The electric current after the diode bridge must flow through the control ammeter to electronic circuit battery charging. Directly to such a generator, you can connect low-power incandescent lamps. Charged batteries provide a stable constant voltage. It is recommended to use it for lighting (halogen lamps and led strip), or output to the inverter to get 220V AC and connect any Appliances, whose power does not exceed the parameters of the inverter.

Video of making a wind generator with your own hands
Since ancient times, mankind has been using the power of the wind for its own purposes. Windmills, sailing ships are familiar to many, they are written about in books and historical films are made. Nowadays, the wind power generator has not lost its relevance, because. with it, you can get free electricity in the country, which can come in handy if the lights turn off. Let's talk about homemade windmills that can be assembled from improvised materials and available parts at a minimum cost. For you, we have provided one detailed instruction with pictures, as well as video ideas for several more assembly options. So, let's look at how to make a wind generator with your own hands at home.
Assembly instructions
There are several types of wind turbines, namely horizontal, vertical and turbine. They have fundamental differences, their pros and cons. However, the principle of operation of all wind turbines is the same - wind energy is converted into electrical energy and accumulated in batteries, and from them it goes to human needs. The most common type is horizontal.
He is familiar and recognizable. The advantage of a horizontal wind generator is a higher efficiency compared to others, since the blades of a windmill are always under the influence of air flow. The disadvantages include a high requirement for wind - it must be stronger than 5 meters per second. This type of windmill is the easiest to make, so home craftsmen often take it as a basis.
If you decide to try your hand at assembling a wind turbine with your own hands, here are a few recommendations.
You need to start with the generator - this is the heart of the system, the design of the screw assembly will depend on its parameters. For this, automobile generators of domestic and foreign production are suitable, there is information about the use of stepper motors from printers or other office equipment. You can also use a bicycle wheel motor to make your own windmill to generate electricity. In general, almost any motor or generator can be used, but it must be tested for efficiency.
Having decided on the energy converter, you need to assemble the gearbox assembly to increase the speed on the generator shaft. One revolution of the propeller should equal 4-5 revolutions on the generator shaft. However, these parameters are selected individually, based on the power and features of your generator and blade assembly. A part from a grinder or a system of belts and rollers can act as a gearbox.
When the gearbox-generator assembly is assembled, they begin to find out its resistance to torque (grams per millimeter). To do this, you need to make a shoulder with a counterweight on the shaft of the future installation, and with the help of a load, find out at what weight the shoulder will go down. Less than 200 grams per meter is considered acceptable. The size of the shoulder in this case is taken as the length of the blade.
Many people think that the more blades, the better. This is not entirely true. We need high speeds, and many propellers create more resistance to the wind, since we make them at home, as a result of which at some point the oncoming flow slows down the propeller and the efficiency of the installation drops. You can use a two blade propeller. Such a propeller in a normal wind can spin over 1000 revolutions per minute. You can make the blades of a home-made wind generator from improvised means - from plywood and galvanizing, to plastic from water pipes(as in the photo below). The main condition is that the material must be light and durable.
A light screw will increase the efficiency of the windmill and sensitivity to air flow. Do not forget to balance the air wheel and remove bumps, otherwise, while the generator is running, you will hear howling and howling, and vibrations will lead to rapid wear of parts.
Next important element, this is the tail. It will keep the wheel in the wind flow, and turn the structure in case of a change in its direction.
To make a current collector or not, it's up to you. This will complicate the design, however, it will save you from frequent twisting of the wire, which is fraught with cable breaks. Of course, in its absence, you will sometimes have to unwind the wire yourself. During the test run of the wind generator, do not forget about safety precautions, spinning blades are a great danger.
A tuned and balanced windmill is installed on a mast, at least 7 meters high from the ground, fixed with spacer cables. Next, no less important node is the storage battery. The most commonly used car acid battery. It is impossible to connect the output of a homemade wind generator directly to the battery; this must be done through a charging relay or a controller that you can assemble yourself or purchase ready-made.
The principle of operation of the relay is to control the charge and load. In the event of a full battery charge, it switches the generator and battery to load ballast, the system strives to always be charged, preventing overcharging, and does not leave the generator without load. A windmill without load can spin up quite strongly and damage the insulation in the windings by the generated potential. In addition, high speeds can cause mechanical destruction of the elements of the wind generator. Next is a voltage converter from 12 to 220 volts 50 Hz for connecting household appliances.
Now the Internet is full of diagrams and drawings, where craftsmen show how to make a wind generator with powerful magnets on their own. Whether they are as effective as they promise is a moot point. But it's worth trying to assemble a wind power plant for your home, and then decide how to improve it. It is important to gain experience and then you can already aim at a more serious device. The freedom and variety of home-made windmills is so vast, and the element base is diverse that it makes no sense to describe them all, the basic meaning remains the same - the wind flow spins the screw, the gearbox increases the shaft speed, the generator gives out voltage, then the controller keeps the charge level on the battery, and with him already underway selection of energy for various needs. Here, according to this principle, you can make a wind generator with your own hands at home. We hope our detailed instructions with photo examples explained to you how to make suitable model windmill for home or garden. We also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the assembly master classes homemade device in video format.

There are many other homemade options: on powerful magnets, with complex blades, etc. These designs should be repeated only if you have some experience in this matter, you should start with simple circuits. If you want to make a wind generator so that it works and is used for its intended purpose, follow the instructions provided by us. If you have any questions - leave them in the comments.
Electricity prices are steadily rising. To make your life comfortable both in hot summers and frosty winters, you should either spend a lot of money on electricity, or look for an alternative source of energy. Developed countries have long used solar energy, water and wind. This is a natural source of nutrition for which you do not have to pay. A fairly popular way to get energy is a windmill that uses wind to generate electricity - a wind generator.
Russia is a rather large country with flat territories. Despite the fact that in many places there are predominantly slow winds, there are regions that are strongly blown by powerful air currents. So why not use this advantage in the economy? All that is required is to spend time and money to make a homemade wind generator. The windmill will fully pay for itself in just a few months. We will consider 2 types of wind turbines that you can do with your own hands.
Rotary wind generator
To begin with, we will consider how to make a simple design of a rotary generator. It's easier to start with a simple one, and you will understand the principle of work. This type of wind generator is suitable for owners of a small garden house. It will not work to use the made windmill for a large cottage, due to the low power of the wind generator.
But the windmill is easy to handle in order to provide light for utility rooms in the evening, to illuminate garden path porch, etc. Let's take a closer look at how to make such a wind generator with your own hands.
Advantages and disadvantages of a rotary wind generator
When the wind generator is done properly, it will function without any errors. With a 75A battery and a good 1000 W inverter, the windmill will easily provide light to the street, the site of the house, feed the security alarm, video surveillance, etc.
Wind generators of this type have the following advantages:
- ease of installation;
- low cost;
- profitability;
- susceptibility to repair;
- not picky about the operating conditions;
- reliability and quiet operation.
There are several disadvantages of a wind generator:
- low performance of the wind generator;
- complete dependence of the windmill on the wind;
- blades can disrupt the airflow.
Preparation of materials for the wind turbine
The first step is to collect all consumables and parts for the windmill. The wind generator you made will produce a power of no more than 1.5 kW. To make an aggregate you need to have:
- 12 V car alternator.
- Gel or acid battery 12 V.
- Special converter from 12V to 220V and from 700W to 1500W.
- A large stainless steel or aluminum container: a bucket or pan.
- Simple voltmeter.
- Bolts, washers and nuts.
- Relay for charging the battery from the car and charge indicator light.
- Wires with different sections (2.5 mm 2 and 4 mm 2).
- Clamps fixing the wind generator.
- Switch "button" semi-hermetic, 12 V.
Also, stock up on these tools:
- grinder or scissors for metal;
- tape measure;
- construction pencil or marker;
- screwdriver, drill, nippers and drill.
Wind generator design work
The work consists in the manufacture of the rotor and the alteration of the generator pulley. The steps are:
- Prepare a bucket or pot.
- Using a tape measure and a marker, make a markup by dividing the container into 4 identical parts.
- Now you need to cut the blades.
Note! Working with scissors for metal, it is necessary to cut a hole under them. If the bucket is not made of painted tin or galvanized steel, then you can use a grinder.
- From the bottom of the bucket and in the pulley, mark the place where the holes will be. Bolts are screwed into them. Take your time, do everything smoothly, as an imbalance may occur during rotation. Then make holes.
- Now bend the blades. Just remember to take into account which direction the generator is spinning.
- The angle of the blade bend affects the area that the wind will meet. This directly affects the speed and speed of the windmill.
- Using bolts, secure the bucket to the pulley.
- Install your wind turbine on the mast, securing it with clamps.
- It remains to connect the wires and assemble the circuit.
- Fix the wires on the mast so that they do not hang out.
To connect the battery, take wires with a cross section of 4 mm 2. The recommended size is no more than 1 m. And thanks to wires with 2.5 mm 2, connect the light and appliances. Don't forget to install an inverter (converter). Connect the device to the network to contacts No. 7 and No. 8 shown in the diagram below. Use wires 4 mm 2 .
That's it, now your wind turbine is ready to go. It can not but rejoice that it is made by hand.
Axial magnetic wind generator
At the heart of such a 220v windmill is a hub from a passenger car with brake discs. If the part is not new, disassemble it, check and lubricate the bearings, and clean off the rust.
Distribute and fix magnets
First you need to stick the magnets on the rotor disc. In this case, the magnets used are not ordinary, but special neodymium magnets. They are much more powerful. You will need 20 magnets, the size of which is 25 by 8 mm. Magnets are placed with alternating poles. For correct location make a template as shown in the photo below.
Advice! If possible, use not round magnets for the wind generator, but rectangular ones. Their magnetic field is concentrated not in the center, but along the length.
To fix the magnets on the disc, use silicate glue. And for strength at the end, you can pour magnets epoxy resin. To prevent the resin from leaking, make plasticine borders or wrap the disc with tape.
Note! In order not to confuse where the magnet has which pole, you can mark them with “+” or “-”. To determine this - bring one magnet to another. The surfaces of the magnet that are attracted have a "+". If the magnet is repelled, it has a "-" pole.
Three-phase and single-phase generator for wind turbine
If we compare them, then a single-phase device is worse, because under load it vibrates due to the difference in current amplitude. And it appears due to the inconsistency of the current. In three-phase products, this effect is absent. Their power is always the same. The thing is that one phase compensates for the other and vice versa, if the current disappears in one phase, then in the other it will increase.
What is the result? And the fact that three-phase generators have a return of 50% more than single-phase ones. In addition, the absence of vibration, which can irritate and affect comfort, pleases. When working under heavy load, the stator will not hum. If noise does not bother you, and you decide to use a single-phase generator, be prepared for the fact that vibration will adversely affect the operation of the wind generator. Its service life will be shorter.
We wind the coils
It is impossible to call a very high-speed wind generator. It is required to do everything so that the 12 V battery is infected from 100–140 rpm. With these initial data, the total number of turns in the coils should be 1000-1200. But how do you know how many turns per coil? It's simple: this figure is divided by the number of coils.
If you want the wind generator to produce more power at low speeds, you need to make more poles. In this case, the frequency of the current oscillation in the coil will increase. To reduce resistance and increase current resistance, we recommend winding thick wire around the coils. Keep in mind that with a strong voltage, the resistance of the winding can "eat" the current.
Please note that the number and thickness of the magnets that are attached to the disks determine the operating parameters of the generator. To find out how much power a wind generator can produce, wind one coil and spin the generator. Measure the voltage at some RPM without load. For example, for 200 rpm you got a current of 30 V with a resistance of 3 ohms. Subtract from these 30V 12V (battery voltage). Now divide the number you get by 3 ohms. Everything looks like this:
As a result, it turned out 6 A. It is they who will go to the battery. It is clear that in practice it will be slightly less due to losses in the wires.
Coils better make an elongated shape. Then the copper in the sector will come out more, and the turns will be straight. The diameter of the hole inside the coil should be equal to or slightly larger than the size of the magnets.
Note! The thickness of the stator must be the same as the thickness of the magnets.
The shape for the stator can be plywood. But sectors for coils can also be placed on paper by making a plasticine border. The coils must be fixed so that they do not move, and bring the ends of the phases out. Connect all wires with a star or a delta. It remains to test the wind generator by rotating it by hand.
We make a screw and a mast for a wind generator
The mast for the verogenerator must be high, from 8 to 12 m. The base must be concreted. It is better to make the fastening so that the pipe can be easily raised and lowered with a winch. A wind turbine screw will be attached to the pipe from above.
You can make it from plastic pipeØ160 mm. From it cut a screw with six blades, 2 m long.
To take the propeller away from a strong gust of wind, make a folding tail. As a result, all the energy generated by the wind generator can be stored in the battery.
That's all, you know how to make a wind turbine with magnets. Now you can use the electricity generated by such a wind generator, saving your money. All your efforts will be rewarded.
Conclusion
From this article, you learned how to make a wind generator with your own hands, and not one, but two types. It is these wind turbines that are loved and used for country houses owners. As you can see, each wind generator is good in something of its own and it is not difficult to make it.
If you live in an area with strong winds, you will see how much lower your electricity bills are thanks to a wind turbine. Such a windmill in the household will never be superfluous. Additionally, we suggest you watch a video on how to make such a wind generator.
