Once again, when planning repairs, the choice fell on new wallpapers. And, having come to a hardware store, we discovered that there is a type of decorative coating unknown to me - glass wallpaper for painting. We, of course, began to look for material, what it is and how to work. Here, I post the result of my analysis of information from various sources in this article. In my opinion, these wallpapers show that manufacturers still think about us (consumers and ordinary people).
Glass fiber was invented in Sweden, where, as we know, they love, and the trendsetter is Nature, environmental friendliness and naturalness.
Therefore, their engineering thought reached the point of making fabric wallpaper out of glass.
Initially, raw materials are prepared, the ingredients for which are quartz sand, soda, clay, limestone.
Glass is made from these materials, which, under the influence of high temperatures, is drawn into threads, but does not harden, but looks more like a fabric. So that it keeps its shape, it is impregnated with specially processed starch.
Threads are woven into fabric on a loom. If you need to make a more complex drawing, then special machines are used.
Rolls with different patterns leave the factory: matting, herringbone, jacquard and other complex patterns.
On the roll there is always a class of wallpaper, instructions for use. Wallpaper from the factory is divided into two classes: 1 and 2.
The first grade is 25 m long, completely identical in pattern. There may be defects in a roll of the second class, and a length of 25 m may not be one whole roll, but several cuts, which together give this footage.
Choosing glass wallpaper for painting
When you decide to buy glass wallpaper for painting, you need to decide for yourself a few nuances so as not to run after the next necessary roll.
First of all, you need to decide what you will glue: the ceiling or the walls. For walls, the material is thinner.
Glass fiber always has a texture.
Choose required amount rolls of the first grade. And looking for departments with additional materials: glue, primer, brushes and rollers and paint.
Painted pattern "gunny"
Glass fiber: price per roll
You can go over the construction online stores. I took the most budgetary of them.
So, this kind of coverage in Leroy Merlin costs from 1050 to 3555 rubles. per roll. The most accessible is the pattern "Gunny". If you want something more original, then it's worth paying extra for it.
Considering that the price tag is not for the standard 10 meters, but for 25, I consider this cost to be quite adequate.
I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the video about the nuances of this coverage.
Glass fiber for painting: the pros and cons
Glass fiber has many advantages, so we will analyze them in detail.
- Service life up to 30 years, can be repainted up to 15 times, with a repair interval of 5 years, we can say that they will last a lifetime.
- fireproof wall covering
- They don't absorb odor
- They are easily cleaned of dirt and grease,
- Very durable. They can only be scratched with a diamond. Therefore, your cat is not on the nails!
- Under these wallpapers, harmful fungi do not start,
- Hide wall defects due to texture,
- Glass fiber can withstand a breaking load of up to 2 kg per square meter. thus, when shrinking the house, you will not see cracks on the ceiling and walls.
For all these advantages, fiberglass wallpapers are very popular in Europe, where they have become the main material for pasting the walls of children's and hospitals.
But there are also disadvantages:
- Relative cost.
- Additional steps when gluing, because the walls need to be primed.
- It is necessary to use a respirator and a mask when working with them, microglass particles can be knocked out. But this is only when pasting.
- Difficult to remove during the next repair, because they are not soaked with water. And you have to buy a special composition for this.
- Need special glue
I think that the pros here significantly outweigh the cons, so we buy wallpaper and go to choose glue for them.
Adhesive for glass
Glass fiber glue needs a special one, made on starch. Because it adheres strongly to surfaces, is less toxic and does not change color with age.
For example, it is not advisable to glue pva glue, because over time it turns yellow and shows through the paint.
Glue is produced both in liquid and dry form. There are a huge number of manufacturing companies now.
1 package of glue in a dry state 300 g is enough for gluing 50 sq.m of glass.
The glue is diluted in 11 or 9 liters of water (according to the instructions) and left to swell for 5 minutes, then stirred until smooth. It is applied only to the walls, and not to the wallpaper, with a roller or brush.
How to glue glass
When you unpack the roll, you will see that the wrong side is marked in gray or gray stripe. This will allow you not to get confused with the top and bottom and with the front side.
If there is a drawing, then you need to make an allowance of 5 mm, it is better to take branded glue if the wallpaper does not already have an adhesive layer applied.
If you glue a cobweb or matting, then you do not need to paint for at least 12 hours, but better than the day 2. Otherwise, the wallpaper may fall off under the weight of the layer.
Preparing walls for gluing:
- removing the old coating
- bumps splatter,
- are cleared.
After that, the walls must be primed, otherwise the wallpaper may fall off or bubbles will appear on them.
After the primer has completely dried, proceed to sticking the wallpaper.
You need to start gluing in order to cut the roll to the desired length, decide on the top and bottom (remember the gray stripe).
Glue is applied to the wall, and wallpaper is glued to it. The wallpaper itself does not need to be smeared!
To match the pattern, an allowance of 10 cm is made.
If bubbles appear, this means that the surface was poorly primed or little glue was applied. To remove them after drying, take a syringe with a needle, draw glue into it and pierce the bubble, filling it with glue. Then, with a spatula, gently spread the glue over the coating.
Remember, too much glue is better than too little.
The excess can be easily distributed over the surface, and the deficiency is almost impossible to make up.
After the wallpaper is pasted, we wait a day and only then proceed to staining.
Any irregularities and excesses are easily cut off with a clerical knife.
Glass fiber for painting in the interior (photo)
In the interior, glass wallpapers look very noble. Any of their textures has an organic and non-flashy look under any color coating.
Natural drawings have the texture of "gunny" or "herringbone". The photo below shows that you can combine colors and the interior only benefits from this.
Peach color scheme will help to emphasize the comfort and sunny atmosphere.
Interesting embossing in the form of leaves, as in the photo, this option is suitable for both the bath and the living room. By the way, glass wallpapers are just perfect for the bathroom because of their resistance to water and swelling!
Interesting combinations of several textures in the interior, when the top is in a small and light pattern, and the bottom is massive and heavier.
The color scheme also makes the separation.
Did you like this modern cover? Personally, I was surprised that once you stick them correctly, you can change color almost all your life without re-gluing!

One of the strongest and most durable materials used for wall decoration is glass. Their service life is more than 30 years, while the coating retains its original original appearance.
After looking at various photos of glass wallpapers in the interiors, you can be sure that they look very aesthetically pleasing, suitable for any style, perfectly decorate every room in the apartment, and fit perfectly into the overall design of the room.
Description of glass
The name of this finishing material speaks for itself, it is a wallpaper made of glass. With the help of special technologies, it is melted and glass threads are drawn, which are later used to make the canvas.
The resulting finished fiberglass is processed special composition, based on starch, and sent for drying.
There are two main types of glass fiber:
- "spider line", called fiberglass;
- fiberglass wallpaper.
The first option is a very thin fiberglass, which is used mainly for leveling and reinforcing walls, as a base for painting. various surfaces. Its production is based on the pressing of chopped glass fibers mixed with an adhesive mass.
Direct wallpapers based on fiberglass have a denser structure, have various geometric ornaments on their surface: “rhombus”, “matting”, “herringbone”, etc. You can learn more about how this or that texture looks on the photo of glass wall papers made different ways weaving.
These fabrics are produced on special looms. It is this type that is used for finishing walls and cabinet furniture in rooms.
Glass fiber is intended for subsequent painting. You can repaint canvases up to 20 times, changing the color of the walls along with your tastes and mood.
Main advantages
Recently, this coating material is becoming increasingly popular. This is due to the following distinctive characteristics of glass fiber:
- environmental friendliness and safety. Fiberglass is made only from natural, environmentally friendly and harmless to humans components: sand, limestone, clay, etc.;
- unsurpassed density;
- resistance to mechanical damage - it is almost impossible to accidentally scratch or tear off such wallpaper;
- fire resistance - this is an absolutely non-combustible type of coating;
- breathability;
- the possibility of multiple repainting of the canvas;
- resistance to wet cleaning - such wallpaper is not afraid of unpleasant pollution or children's drawings;
- the longest service life - more than 30 years;
- antibacterial - it is impossible to form mold or fungus on fiberglass, so this material is perfect for decorating rooms with high humidity.
All these advantages, no doubt, speak of the quality and reliability of this type of wall covering. However, along with all the advantages listed above, cullet has some disadvantages, namely:
- the complexity of dismantling the coating;
- high cost in comparison with vinyl or non-woven wallpaper;
- greater consumption of paint in comparison with the painting of simple walls;
- a small selection of patterns, coating textures.
In order to choose the best glass wallpaper, you need to focus on the following main parameters:
Density. This criterion directly affects the strength and durability of the canvas. The higher this indicator, the longer the guaranteed service life will be, and the more Once the wallpaper will be subject to repainting.
Wallpaper selected for high-quality and long-term finishes must have a density of 100 g / m ^ 2 or more.
Pattern on the canvas. Of course, the choice of textures on fiberglass is quite limited, however, from the available range, you can choose a texture that is ideal for your apartment.
Whether it will be a “herringbone” or “rice paper” pattern depends only on your preferences, however, pay attention to the volume and depth of the relief, it will depend on this whether the applied ornament will be lost during repeated repainting of the wallpaper.
Compound. Quality wallpapers should contain 70 percent fiberglass and 30 percent special impregnation. Be sure to read this information on the product packaging. If you find a product whose composition does not correspond to these proportions, it is better to refuse to buy it.
Of course, it is necessary to note both the brand of wallpaper and their manufacturer. Some companies have proven themselves in the market of building finishing materials, so choosing a good product, you must take this into account.
A wide selection of high-quality glass wall papers was demonstrated in Leroy Merlin, the available products are represented by both Russian and foreign brands.
Glass fiber will be an excellent alternative to paper, vinyl, non-woven fabrics already familiar to us, decorative plaster. This material is characterized by high strength, durability, moisture resistance, wear resistance, safety, so it is perfect for finishing any room in an apartment or office.
And the ease of pasting and painting fiberglass canvases will help you quickly make high-quality repairs with your own hands.

The construction market offers huge selection various wallpapers. Paper, vinyl, non-woven. They differ in texture, composition, pattern and color. What to choose? I want something unusual, not like everyone else. There was such a novelty - wallpaper made of fiberglass. What it is? Glass fiber is a decorative finishing material similar in structure to fiberglass fabric - it is a smooth and elastic fabric. They are made from completely natural ingredients: soda, quartz sand, limestone and clay. From the resulting glass, by heating to t 1200 C, thin fibers are drawn, from which yarn is formed. Then the material is woven from the obtained fibers. Glass wallpapers with textured patterns and just a canvas - fiberglass are woven from it. These wallpapers do not contain toxic substances, so they are considered an environmentally friendly material.
Glass texture
All glass wall papers are made for painting. Due to the different textures and variety of patterns, they can be chosen for any type of room. Repeated staining does not spoil the appearance of the material, the pattern does not fade. Repainting up to 20 times is allowed. For durable use of fiberglass wallpaper, you need to select the right adhesive. Paints for wallpaper should be chosen on a water basis - they do not clog the pattern and promote air exchange.
Basic drawings: matting, rhombus, vertical, zigzag, herringbone, diagonal, circles. There are many other different patterns, you can also order your own custom pattern.
Advantages of glass wallpaper
- environmentally friendly: the composition of the material includes only natural components;
- excellent fire safety - do not burn, do not support combustion, do not emit caustic substances upon contact with fire;
- durable: do not tear, do not scratch, can be washed with detergents;
- high wear resistance - service life up to 30 years;
- do not accumulate dust, do not cause allergies;
- breathable material - fungus and mold do not form under them;
- create a healthy indoor climate.
Thanks to all of the above advantages, glass wallpaper is increasingly being used in interior decoration. When choosing glass wallpaper, you need to pay attention to the manufacturer. Good, high-quality fiberglass wallpapers do not crumble, do not break. And when working, take off does not cause any problems.
When choosing wall decoration, many refuse to stick wallpaper: paper ones are short-lived, synthetic ones do not let air through. All that remains is painting, but what if you want to add a beautiful texture to the interior? In this case ideal solution cullet will become - an environmentally friendly material made of the finest glass threads, which perfectly adheres to the plastered surface, protecting it from microcracks and mold, while maintaining an impeccable appearance for many years.
What's this? Production features
The main raw material for this material is quartz sand, which is mixed with soda, limestone and clay, and then melted at very high temperatures (+1200 ° C) is converted into liquid glass. Spider-like threads are pulled out of it, wound onto bobbins and a flexible translucent fabric is woven.
The thickness of the fibers is adjusted by speeding up or slowing down the movement of the machine, and the way they are weaved affects the physical and decorative features finished glass fiber. Thus, a fine, flexible and very thin mesh is obtained, which has reinforcing properties.
Depending on the density and texture, cullets are divided into two types - gossamer and patterned. The former are smoother, lighter in weight and are mainly used for finishing ceilings. Patterned ones are easy to recognize by the pronounced relief pattern, which is formed on a loom, like a jacquard fabric. The most popular textures are matting, geometric shapes or floral motifs.
Glass fiber can be initially colored in mass, but more often they are transparent white and adapted for reusable painting.
Glass fiber - is it dangerous to use?
By analogy with glass wool, many are afraid to use glass wallpaper in the interior. However, these materials are completely different - if you look under a microscope, you can see that the fibers in the insulation are brittle and have pointed edges, while the glass fibers used for wallpaper are much stronger, smoother, and have a straight cylindrical shape at the break.
When sticking to the wall, the glass wall papers are additionally compacted, being impregnated with glue on one side and paint on the other, after which they can be freely touched without the risk of skin irritation.
In Europe, glass wall papers are very popular and there are quite understandable reasons for this:
— Practicality — the service life of glass wall coverings is from 25 to 50 years, which eliminates the need for repairs for a long time, although if desired, you can change the color and update the design. They are very strong, do not peel off, are not damaged by pets.
- Environmental friendliness - for the manufacture of fiberglass are used only natural materials completely safe for human health and environment. Walls pasted over with fiberglass freely pass air and moisture, mold does not appear on them, and it becomes easier to breathe in the room;
— Fire safety- unlike paper and polymer, cullets do not ignite, but begin to melt only at temperatures above 1000 degrees, without emitting caustic fumes;
- Moisture resistance - thanks to this quality, cullet is perfect for bathrooms and kitchens. They can also paste over the facades of kitchen furniture or an apron set;
- Aesthetics - the surface covered with a "cobweb" looks perfectly even and it seems that this is just a flawless coloring; textured cullets give the interior a sophisticated look, and also look interesting and unobtrusive.
Among the shortcomings of fiberglass, one can single out a rather high cost, which, however, is leveled by the long service life of such a coating.
It should also be noted that the choice of patterns is not wide enough when compared, for example, with the huge variety of silk-screen printing on vinyl wallpaper. But if you consider the walls primarily as a backdrop for the rest of the interior, then choosing in favor of the discreet elegance of glass wallpaper can become even more preferable.
Although glass fiber has a slightly greater weight and density than other roll materials for wall decoration, the features of their gluing are almost the same. To begin with, it is important to properly prepare the surface - it should be smooth, smoothly plastered and dry. Small cracks and depressions up to 1 sq.cm. fiberglass will hide, but obvious shortcomings will have to be corrected even before the start of finishing work.
For glass fiber, a special glue based on starch or PVA is used. It is quite thick, so it is applied exclusively to the wall immediately before gluing. The rolls are cut with a clerical knife into strips of the required length, with an allowance of 10 cm to align the pattern.
Sticking should start from a vertical reference point: a window, door or corner, checking the correctness of the lines with a plumb line. You can also measure the width of the wallpaper and make a preliminary marking of the walls with a pencil.
Further actions are no different from the procedure with paper or vinyl coatings: the material is smoothed with a plastic spatula, excess glue and air bubbles are removed with it. Special attention should be given to the joints, as well as the corners - they should be even, not overlapping each other.
After complete drying, glass wall papers are re-primed with diluted glue to reduce paint consumption. After about a day, you can start applying the finishing decorative layer. For dry rooms, it is best to choose water-based acrylic paint, and in the kitchen and bathroom, you can use moisture-resistant latex.
It is possible to repaint textured glass wallpapers from 8 to 20 times - this parameter depends on the quality of the material, the volume of the pattern and the density of the paint used.

They have a long service life, are ideal for painting, are presented in a wide range of colors and types and are very practical to use. More and more buyers opt for them.
Peculiarities
Glass fiber is a decorative wall covering, which is based on special glass. It is heated to high temperatures, and in this state the fibers are drawn to form yarn, which can be of different thicknesses and types. The yarn is then woven into fabric.
Fiberglass wallpaper has a texture. Their front side looks like decorative weaving, which can be various kinds: diamonds, leaves, geometric shapes, abstract lines, flowers.
Fiberglass wallpapers are suitable for pasting various surfaces: concrete, plastic, metal, wood, plasterboard, brick, chipboard. The wall is pre-prepared - primed. If there are gaps, they must be sealed.
Thanks to glass fibers, such wallpapers last 20-30 years with proper operation and care. They can be painted several times (up to 6 times) without compromising their appearance.
Currently, manufacturers are trying to produce fiberglass wallpapers with new features, such as magnetic or additional sound absorption.
Pros and cons
Like any finishing coating, cullet has a number of disadvantages and advantages that must be analyzed before making a choice in the store.
The benefits include several features.
- Strength. The material does not tear, does not deform, does not scratch. In addition, it is able to withstand wet cleaning, including with the use of chemical cleaners. It is believed that this is the most durable wall covering that exists today.
- Improving the microclimate in the room. The structure of the wallpaper resembles a knitted product - it consists of loops, which allows water vapor to move freely between them. Thanks to this, dust is not attracted to the wallpaper, and static electricity does not accumulate.
- Environmental friendliness, safety for others. The basis of the coating is glass, which does not harm people and does not allow dangerous microorganisms to multiply. These wallpapers are excellent prevention the occurrence of fungus or mold, so fiberglass is not harmful to the health of others, suitable for decorating rooms for children and people prone to allergies.
- Resistance to mechanical damage. The canvas is not deformed in contact with furniture, human hands. If it becomes necessary to replace a separate fragment, this can be done without difficulty; horizontal gluing can be used with a glass cloth.
- Fire resistance. Thanks to the glass in the composition of the material, the wallpaper does not burn and does not emit harmful substances in contact with fire.
- Ease of wall hanging. No special skills are required when working with fiberglass wallpaper. They are easy to stick on your own without inviting a specialist.
- Long service life. At proper care and operation wallpaper can last up to 30 years.
- Offered in a wide range variety of colors, textures, patterns.
Other features can be mentioned as disadvantages of fiberglass cloth.
- Price. The price of the canvas can reach large sizes, depending on the complexity of the texture and image.
- In the process of gluing walls, it is necessary to use special protective clothing. Wallpaper microparticles, when in contact with the skin, can cause severe irritation and allergies.
- To paint a wall covered with fiberglass cloth, you need to a large number of paint due to the high degree of absorbency of the wallpaper.
- When applying several layers of paint and glue, the wallpaper may begin to peel off the wall under the influence of gravity.
- With each new layer of paint, the texture and relief of the wallpaper is lost.
- If the paint is not properly selected, the wallpaper can be difficult to wet clean.
- Wallpaper is difficult to remove from the walls. With subsequent repairs, you need to make a lot of effort to prepare the wall for a new coating.
- To work with them, a perfectly flat wall is required, since the fiberglass does not bend well and cannot take any shape.
Despite a few disadvantages, cullet is one of the most popular types of material for wall decoration both in Russia and in European countries.
Kinds
Depending on various criteria, cullets can be of different types.
Texture
- Smooth. The wallpaper is a "cobweb" (fiberglass). They are the perfect surface for painting. In addition, the "cobweb" can smooth out small cracks and bumps on the wall. It combines reinforcing and decorative function.
- Embossed. Such material has a more porous structure, high weight and density. It is less prone to stretching and deformation and is well suited for the final completion of wall decoration.
Quality
- First grade. They are of high quality, long service life, very dense - from 100 g/sq. m. The price of such material is high.
- Second grade. The quality is average, during operation they can behave unpredictably. If you choose products of well-known foreign brands, the wallpaper will be of a fairly high quality. The second grade will only indicate a non-standard length of the canvas.
- Economy grade. Wallpaper of poor quality, with a short service life and low density. Despite this, they are the most popular option among buyers due to their affordable cost.
Number of layers
Single-layer and double-layer, consisting of a decorative layer and a substrate.
How to use
Fiberglass wallpaper and "spider web" for further painting. The canvas has a white or light color and is intended for further processing. They are an excellent option ceiling decoration. For walls, such wallpapers are used only as a draft version.
Fiberglass, which requires further puttying. Suitable for uneven surfaces.
Glass fiber different colors that do not require further staining.
Color
Multi-colored and white or light with a slight tint. The latter are usually used for painting.
Picture
- Difficult. Made on a jacquard loom.
- Textured. Made on a loom.
moisture resistance
- 1 degree. The material is not very durable. Only dry cleaning with a suede cloth can be used. Marked with one wave.
- 2 degrees. The average degree of moisture resistance, tolerate cleaning with a slightly damp cloth, are marked with two waves.
- 3 degrees. High degree of resistance to moisture. Wet cleaning can be applied to them, including using chemicals. Marked with three waves. If a brush is added to the marking, the wallpaper can be brushed. This is the highest degree of strength and moisture resistance of wallpaper.
Compound
For the manufacture of fiberglass, only natural materials are used, so the finished wallpaper does not emit harmful substances and has a long service life. In addition to glass, the composition of the canvas includes dolomite, soda, clay, quartz sand and lime.
First, all components are molded into briquettes, which are subsequently stretched into threads under the influence of high temperature. Fabric is woven from threads on looms. Then the canvas is impregnated with a special solution, which is based on modified starch. Thanks to this impregnation, the wallpaper first holds its shape before being glued, and then, mixing with glue and paint, it is firmly fixed on the surface.
After that, all fiberglass wallpapers are thoroughly tested for compliance with GOST R 52805-2007 standards.
Specifications
All characteristics of the fiberglass fabric meet the highest requirements.
- Environmental friendliness. All cullets undergo quality control, the concentration of harmful substances in their composition should not exceed the permissible limits, according to the SanPiN of the Russian Federation.
- Density. The higher this indicator, the stronger the canvas, and the longer it will last. good wallpaper have a high density - from 100 g / sq. m. They are durable and can tolerate several paints. Wallpapers of lower density are not so durable. They are not recommended to be chosen for residential premises, since often the canvas has a marriage - threads that have broken out of weaving, a pattern that has gone astray.
- The size. A standard roll has a width of 1 m and a length of 25-50 m.
- Whiteness must be at least 70%.
- Vapor permeability. This indicator must be measured by the manufacturer and indicated on the packaging.
- edge parallelism. The longitudinal edges of the wallpaper should be parallel to each other. The deviation cannot be more than 1cm.

- The presence of mechanical damage. The material must not have tears, wrinkles or other damage.
- Combustibility, flammability, toxicity in contact with fire, smoke formation. These indicators should not exceed the norms established by GOST 32044, 30402, 12.1.044.
- Impregnation with a special composition. Unimpregnated areas should not exceed 3 cm.
- Marking. All wallpapers must be marked in accordance with the requirements in a form accessible to consumers.
- Water resistance.
- Strength and resistance to mechanical stress.
Color solutions
In order to decide on the color of the wallpaper, first of all, you need to be guided by your own taste preferences.
However, there are a few general tips to help you make your choice.
- It is not recommended to choose too bright colors for coloring. They quickly get bored, can cause irritation, and will interfere with rest and relaxation. It is better to give preference to neutral, calmer tones.
- If you want to highlight the walls in an original way, add bright colors to the interior, it is better to highlight them with separate elements, for example, bright drawings on a neutral general background of wallpaper. In this way, you can achieve the originality of the room, as well as make it visually larger.
- It is important to pay attention to the combination of wallpaper with furniture in the room. They should complement each other in color, patterns and style.
- If you plan to apply drawings to glass wallpaper, you need to observe harmonious proportions depending on the size of the room. Large details contribute to the visual reduction of space, which is inappropriate in small rooms. Small drawing, on the contrary, is suitable for small room and help make it more spacious.
- It is important to keep in mind what purpose the room itself has, and how harmoniously wallpaper in one color or another will look in it. For the kitchen, colors should not be too bright, easily soiled, gloomy. If it has enough natural light, you can choose cold shades: green, blue, gray. If you need to add light to the kitchen, it is better to give preference to warm colors: yellow, pink, orange.
- For living rooms, shades found in wildlife are suitable: green, pink, yellow. To give originality, you can use stencils to add color patterns to the walls to taste. For bedrooms, calm tones are suitable that will help you relax and unwind: beige, blue, light green, pink.
- With the help of various textures and colors, you can highlight one of the walls, divide the room into zones. Interesting solution- the choice for different walls of the same pattern, but different in size.
Textures and patterns
Glass fiber can have a different texture. The most common include the following.
- "Herringbone"- a classic pattern, suitable for decorating any room, it can be of different sizes. A large "herringbone" will be an excellent option for a spacious room.
- "Rhombus". Suitable for connoisseurs of geometric shapes and straight lines. Such a pattern will organically fit into the interior of the kitchen, dining room, corridor.
- "Gunny". Wallpapers have the same relief on both sides, can be hung on horizontal and vertical surfaces. There are small, medium and large "gunny". This texture, in addition to decorative, also performs reinforcing functions. This option is very popular in office space.
- "Spider line"- classic, chaotic, abstract pattern. When the paint is applied, the texture becomes almost imperceptible, but not smooth, which makes it ideal for decorating the ceiling. Wallpaper with this pattern does not need to be adjusted.
There are also exclusive models with an unusual texture.
- Crepe pattern. The pattern resembles jacquard weaving with a chaotically located fine texture. If a layer of paint is applied to the wallpaper, visually they resemble relief plaster, which creates a play of chiaroscuro on the surface.
- "Papyrus". Outwardly, it resembles ancient paper with ornaments, creates a unique atmosphere of comfort.
- Stripes. These include patterns "Empire", "Modern" and "Stripe". All of them are a beautiful intersection of stripes. "Stripe" is suitable for original people who love a unique interior. The pattern is an alternation of small and large stripes.
- "Vertical". The texture is unobtrusive, restrained. Such wallpapers can be chosen for a room of any size and purpose.
- "Deryuzhka". Such a pattern will organically fit into the country style, chalet, suitable for home on suburban area. The large relief resembles natural bamboo or linen weaving, like in mats. Thanks to this, a comfortable and cozy atmosphere is created in the room.
In addition to the above patterns, there are many more options offered by manufacturers: “chess” and “quadro”, which are a combination of squares, “polka dots”, suitable for rooms with children, “diagonal”, used in rooms where you want to visually adjust the geometry of space.
The drawing can be different in size, which gives a variety for creative ideas. When purchasing wallpaper for painting, it must be borne in mind that with each new layer of paint, the texture will gradually lose its relief, so it is more practical to choose a pronounced, deep texture.
With the help of various techniques for painting glass-woven wallpaper, you can diversify the interior, make it original.
- The use of borders. With the help of them, you can divide the surface into several parts. The texture may be the same, or it may differ on different sides of the border. After gluing the fiberglass wallpaper on the wall, without waiting for it to dry, you can proceed to the next step. A strip is cut out on the canvas, which will correspond to the future border. The remaining canvas on both sides of this strip is painted in two layers. An interesting solution is the use of contrasting colors. After the paint has dried, a border is glued to the designated place.
- Using stencils. With their help, you can create any drawings and patterns on the wall. A stencil is applied to the already painted wallpaper, its borders are fixed with masking tape. Then the paint is carefully applied - so that it does not flow under the adhesive tape. Then the wallpaper is painted again, and after the paint layer dries, the adhesive tape is removed. The finished ornament can be additionally decorated or supplemented with another ornament using a different stencil. In this way, you can create patterns that are dispersed over the entire surface of the wall, or limit yourself to a single pattern.
- Squeegee staining. It creates the effect of a fabric surface. To begin with, the glass fabric is painted with a base color, on top of which a paint and varnish coating is applied with one colors with it using a spatula made of rubber or plastic. Such staining can be carried out with a water-based varnish or varnish with a metallic effect. After upper layer dry, with a damp sponge, its excess is removed.
- Azure coloring. To do this, first, a base coat of paint is applied in the form of a varnish from a mixture of contrasting colors with decorative splashes. white color. After this layer has dried, azure is applied. For this, a special brush is used. The movements during the application of paint should be short, in the transverse direction. After 20 minutes with rubber spatula flakes must be evenly distributed on the canvas. A brighter effect can be achieved by applying another layer of azure.

How to choose?
When deciding which wallpaper to purchase, you can be guided by a few tips.
- The main indicator of the quality of glass fiber is their density. You need to be careful, because sometimes unscrupulous manufacturers can add starch impregnation to increase this indicator. It is almost impossible to determine this at first glance, because the wallpaper is packed in rolls. This can become noticeable only at the gluing stage, when glue is applied and the starch layer dissolves. Therefore, it is better to give preference to well-known brands.
- Texture. This indicator can also be artificially changed. Some manufacturers fluff the threads, which makes the texture more voluminous. This is detected only in the process of gluing the canvas to the surface, when excess air is expelled with a spatula.
- You can determine in advance whether the material meets the declared characteristics. To do this, you can take a small piece of wallpaper as a sample, stick it on the wall, paint it and see if its properties have changed.
- When choosing a paint, you need to understand how often the surface will be exposed to impacts, how often cleaning will be carried out. It is better to give preference to latex glossy and semi-gloss paints. In rooms where high traffic is typical for people, it is better to choose a paint with a waterproof effect that will not wear out.
- When choosing wallpaper for the ceiling, it is better to give preference to the cobweb, which has no relief and texture. In this case, you do not need to customize the pattern. In addition, fiberglass has reinforcing properties, which will make the surface perfectly flat.
- For the ceiling, you can choose the material of the second grade. Such cullets are lighter in weight, which will simplify the procedure for gluing them, and the ceiling is not subjected to frequent mechanical stress and rarely gets dirty, allowing you to save on material. For walls, first-class wallpapers with the best quality characteristics are better suited. To determine the type of wallpaper, you need to pay attention to how many meters per roll. If 15 is second grade wallpaper, if 50 is first grade.
- Fiberglass wallpaper can be chosen for any room. Due to their properties of strength, durability, resistance to mechanical stress, they are suitable for rooms with high traffic of people: for a hallway, a nursery or any other room. Resistance to frequent wet cleaning, including with the use of chemicals, makes them an ideal coating for kitchen and bathroom walls, and non-combustibility and non-toxicity allows them to be used as a decorative coating for the stove.
- To determine how much material is needed, you need to know the size of the surface in length and width. In addition, it must be borne in mind that 5-10 cm of allowance for each cut canvas will be required to join the pattern.
If the length of the whole roll is 50 m, and the height of the ceilings is 2.5 m, you need to calculate that about 2 additional meters will take each roll for allowances.
Instructions for use
Fiberglass wallpaper can be used to paste over wooden, metal, concrete and brick surfaces, as well as plasterboard and chipboard walls.
You need to glue the wallpaper, observing the order of the main steps.
- Surface preparation. Large cracks and irregularities must be repaired. To do this, the wall is puttied and primed with a weak adhesive solution.
- Applying adhesive directly to the wall, not to the wallpaper. Glue is selected special. Its basis is starch and PVA, and the consistency should be thick.
- Wallpaper pasting. This is done end-to-end. It is important to observe the alignment of the pattern. To do this, cutting off the desired length from the roll, you need to make an allowance of about 5 cm to fit the canvas. If cullets with a matting or cobweb texture are used, allowances are not required. When working with fiberglass wallpaper, horizontal joints are allowed, which can be resorted to in the presence of incorrectly cut pieces or residues from rolls. To determine which side is the front (the texture of the wallpaper is the same on both sides), many factories designate it with a gray stripe.
- Application of paint (if necessary) in two layers two days after gluing. The time between applying layers is at least 12 hours.
It is important to ensure that there is no excess paint and glue, as excessive weight of the wallpaper can peel off the wall. To do this, you can cover the wallpaper with a layer of diluted glue before applying the paint. So the canvas will not absorb excess paint.
- after painting, it is necessary to allow the wallpaper to dry, protecting them from sunlight and drafts for this time;
- for coloring, it is better to choose a roller with a high pile, so that the pronounced relief is well dyed, although the “cobweb” or “matting” can also be painted over with an ordinary roller;
- staining is best done only in natural light;
- to paint the wallpaper near the baseboard or other details, you can use a small brush;
- in the process of wallpapering, it is better that the temperature in the room is 18-25 degrees, and the humidity is about 79%.
