Stretch ceiling how to get wiring. The most common mistakes in the installation of stretch ceilings. Mistakes when installing stretch ceilings
Today, a common finishing method is to install stretch ceilings. This type of finish allows you to forget about the additional leveling of the surface, its appearance originality and aesthetics. But you need to install the wiring in accordance with all the rules, otherwise there is a possibility of its quick breakdown. Stretch ceiling wiring may need to be repaired or replaced - this should be taken into account in advance.
Errors when wiring on the ceiling
When installing stretch ceilings, many do not think about the quality of the wiring, although it is worth paying attention to Special attention. Not only the uninterrupted supply of electricity depends on the serviceability of the wiring, but also the safety of the residents of the house. Sometimes a simple mistake can lead to a breakdown of the entire system.
The most common and simple mistake is not correct location mounting baguette.
When installing stretch ceilings, many craftsmen do not pay attention to whether the mounting profile and the junction box located on the wall intersect. Ceilings should be covered only with the help of special professional equipment. This is especially worth paying attention to when installing a hidden wiring detector.
Errors when installing stretch ceilings:
- If the master has not previously checked the ceiling for wires that are hidden, he can simply damage the already installed wiring.
- Many do not follow the rules for installing wiring. Cables in the wiring must be laid in special corrugated pipes made of plastic.
- When installing ceilings, it is important to consider the possibility of wiring breakage and its repair. To make the repair convenient, it is important that you can remove part of the ceiling, and not the entire ceiling.
To avoid mistakes, it is necessary to carefully study the rules for installing stretch ceilings. Before installing ceilings, it is important to pay attention to where all lighting and devices connected to the mains. A preliminary plan will help to avoid mistakes often made during the laying of wires.
Before installing stretch ceilings, it is important to pay special attention to the laying of wires. Make a complete plan ahead of time electrical circuit. Be sure to follow all fire safety rules.
Before installing the canvases, it is important to correctly make calculations that will allow you to install densely at the correct distance from each other, which will affect the correct location of the lighting fixtures.
In no case should you neglect the safety rules for aesthetic purposes. If, according to the rules, it is necessary to observe a distance of 15 cm between the plane of the tension sheets and the base floor, then the sheets must be installed precisely at this distance, but not less. Wires are usually bred with some margin.
Ceiling and wiring installation tips:
- You should pay attention to the fact that the corrugation does not sag. To avoid unnecessary sagging, care must be taken to install special wiring mounts, such as plastic clips or a dowel that fixes the cable.
- Cables should be installed according to the specific type of luminaire.
- It is important that the power of the fixtures is chosen correctly, otherwise the film may melt.
- It is best to use LED strips as lighting fixtures on stretch ceilings. They are very easy to install and safe to use.
- When laying the wiring, it is important to ensure that the wires do not intersect.
- If there is an intersection between the wires, they should be additionally protected to prevent a short circuit.
Modern apartments are increasingly equipped with stretch ceilings. They can be installed easily and simply, but it is worth considering that in the event of a wiring breakdown, the structure will need to be removed completely or partially. Therefore, before installing the ceiling, it is important to correctly install the wiring.
Common mistakes when installing electrical wiring on the ceiling
Wiring should never be done without professional help. Wiring must not be carried out without the use of special installation boxes and protective corrugated pipes. Improper wiring can cause a fire that will spread to the ceiling and can lead to very unfortunate consequences.
If the electrical wire is damaged, the neighboring parts of the entire ceiling structure will inevitably ignite.
Following the rules, the wiring must be laid using a special protective metal hose or corrugation made on the basis of plastic, which has the property of self-extinguishing. To avoid a short circuit, never connect lighting devices to one device responsible for the protective connection. Such a connection is always inconvenient.
Wiring errors:
- Some masters make the mistake of connecting the switch not to the phase wire, but to the zero one. This leads to the fact that even when switched off, lighting devices present a risk of electric shock.
- Many make a mistake when choosing a cross section for wires. Often it depends on the desire to save money. Poor quality wires constantly overheat, which increases the load on the network.
To avoid the most common mistakes, read the instructions carefully before installing the wiring. Do not do the installation yourself. It is good if the installation work is carried out by professional electricians. An important factor is right choice wires - they must be of high quality.
Is it possible to lay the VVGNG cable without corrugation
Many people who first encountered installing or replacing wiring are wondering if it is necessary to lay electrical cables using corrugation. It is important that the wiring is laid by a professional craftsman. Many unscrupulous workers can neglect the rules, which can lead not only to a lack of lighting, but also to a fire.
Laying wiring largely depends on whether it is carried out in a residential building or in an industrial one.
The fastening of the wires depends on the type of base. Wires can be laid on concrete or wooden base. Wiring can also be installed in a gate covered with a thick layer of plaster, or on an open surface. If the cable has a fireproof sheath, then it can be fixed without the use of corrugations.
In what case is the corrugation necessary:
- Concealed wiring with combustible bases;
- If you need a fireproof gasket.
The corrugation is capable of not supporting combustion. If it's about wooden house or frame structure, the rules do not allow laying electrical cable using corrugated pipe. To find out more detailed information, you can study the rules for the design and installation of electrical wiring.
Electrical wiring under a stretch ceiling (video)

Hi all! I have no complaints about stretch ceilings, so I give them five stars. And today I want to tell you a story that left me with an unpleasant aftertaste in my soul.
First to the company that installs stretch ceilings Status Design I applied in 2011 and ordered a satin ceiling in the room from them. Everything suited me, and having moved to new apartment, I again turned to this company to make the ceiling in the kitchen. For the new built-in kitchen, electricians brought me separate "machines" for hob and an oven, as well as several additional sockets were made. I had a plan drawn where the wires run in the walls, up to centimeters. Accordingly, the plan was shown to the ceiling installers to make it easier for them to work.
After the installation and the departure of the installers, I realized that there was no electricity in the apartment. At first I thought that they forgot to turn on the "machine" in the stairwell and went out to the entrance to do it myself, but all the "machines" were turned on. Of course, the thought flashed through my mind that they had drilled a wire in the wall, but I just didn’t want to believe it! First, it was New Year's Eve, I had a lot of friends, and I was without electricity. How to cook, how to live in general?! And secondly, I didn’t have a kitchen for a long time, so I had to buy a slow cooker in order to somehow eat, and most importantly, feed my family. And now there is no electricity, and I couldn’t think of how to cook food without a slow cooker)))
I started calling the manager who came to measure my ceilings. So, on the phone, I explained that there was no electricity and it is quite possible that this is directly related to the installation of the ceiling. The manager immediately chose the tactics of the attacker, said that they were just installers, not electricians, and tried to divert the conversation in a different direction, at the end he even stated that even if the installers really broke through the wire, they didn’t do it on purpose! So after all, I myself understand that it wasn’t on purpose, and I didn’t even blame them for anything, well, everything happens, an accident, but this does not mean that you don’t need to fix everything!
Then we called back several times with the manager, but the conversation was the same, they made it clear to me that they had done their job, the ceiling was hanging in place - sit and admire! By the way, I want to add again, it was December 29th. I already imagined a terrible picture of how I call electricians, they remove my ceiling and just throw it in the trash, because I can’t hang it back, and no one from Status Design is going to come to me, since a ten-year warranty applies only on the ceiling itself, and this has nothing to do with electricity.
To be honest, such anguish seized me that I called the manager for the last time and just burst into tears into the phone. It was only then that he relented, called back in a few minutes and said that the installers would come tomorrow and look at the ceiling. The next day, the installers arrived with their electrician, checked the wiring plan again, and quickly figured out where the wire had been punched. They did everything in 10 minutes, I had to bend a piece of the ceiling a little, but in the end everything was brought back to its original form! It’s good that I didn’t have time to paste the wallpaper, otherwise they would have been damaged.
Here is my sad story. Then one knowledgeable person I was told that it is still unknown how exactly they made the wiring, if they just connected and wrapped the wires, then over time they can catch fire. And if you made some kind of spikes, such small nozzles for connecting wires, then everything will be ok. I don't know anything about electrical, but I hope everything will be fine.
The ceiling itself is two-tone, brown and white. I ordered a glossy one, because I already had a satin one and I wanted something new. I decided not to hang the chandelier, but made LED lamps)
I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if I'm the only one who's "happy"
Good afternoon. Contact the seller with a written claim. If the claim is not satisfied, go to court.

a corresponding reduction in the price for the work performed (service rendered);
reimbursement of expenses incurred by him to eliminate the shortcomings of the work performed (service rendered) on his own or by third parties;
refusal to execute the contract on the performance of work (rendering of services) and compensation for losses.
Every owner of a house or apartment sooner or later has to face the need to drill walls. For example, if you need to hang cabinets, a chandelier, not to mention a complete repair. In this case, it is very important to eliminate the risk of damage to the wiring. If its integrity is violated, then at best the protection device will work and you will have to change the cable (for example, VVG) in the damaged area. At worst, you can get seriously injured. It's good when you have a plan on hand, but what if you don't have one and you don't know where and how the wires are laid? Then read on!
Walls
Drilling walls is the easiest to deal with, since you can determine the approximate location of the wiring based on generally accepted rules for laying it. So, the electrical wiring in the walls of the apartment is usually laid horizontally, 10-20 centimeters below the ceiling. From it to the outlets at right angles are laid vertical branches.
It is also quite possible to locate junction boxes in walls, which will make it possible to accurately determine the route of the wires. Next, we look at where we have sockets, switches and other circuit elements. Cables go up from them, so it is better not to drill in this area.
If you can’t find the wiring with the naked eye, you can buy or borrow a special detector. Entry-level models are not very expensive, and are able to accurately locate the wires, with an accuracy of 10-15 centimeters.
Ceiling
Everything is much more complicated here. If you need to hang a chandelier, and there is no corresponding hook, but the wiring is brought out for connection, then follow these recommendations:
- AT panel houses Soviet-built wiring is usually laid in the voids of panel structures. Therefore, in order not to hit the wires with the drill, first slightly scratch the plaster at the exit point of the wires to see exactly where they lead. This will allow you to drill in a safe area, and the chandelier plate will hide the resulting hole.
- If the ceiling has a monolithic structure, then in this case the wires for lighting run vertically to the floor above. Therefore, it is enough to step back a little away from them and you can drill.
- In cottages or a private house, electrical wiring is usually laid under plaster. Therefore, as in the first case, we advise you to slightly open the plaster to see where the wires go.
A well-known proverb sounds like this: “The miser pays twice!”. Mistakes in the installation of stretch ceilings can be costly. In this article, I will try to tell in detail about all the "pitfalls" that may occur.
Fabric melting
When conducting installation work lamps and any other heating elements must be isolated from the canvas with special thermal pads (thermal rings). They remove heat and serve as heat insulators.
Badly glued thermo ring
Particular attention should be paid to the insulation of chimneys and heating appliances (pipes) passing through the ceiling. Otherwise, a few months after the delivery of the work, the owners may find that the canvas is melted, the appearance of yellow or gray spots.
When mounting the ceiling, it is unacceptable to touch the PVC material with a gun, or bring the guns close. It is also necessary to regulate the temperature of the heating of the canvas. PVC fabric should not be overheated higher than 60-70 degrees, otherwise there will be sad consequences.
When carelessly working with gas gun, sad consequences are possible up to a fire, this is unacceptable and is grossest mistake of stretch ceiling installers.
Lag of the structure from walls and pipes
Curvilinear shapes and complex angles can create some difficulties in calculating and fixing the false ceiling frame. Careless measurements and rough installation lead to the appearance of cracks and gaps, or strong folds that cannot be corrected.
If the protruding corners are measured incorrectly, situations may also arise with wrinkles.
Small wrinkles are removed from the corners if the ceiling is heated evenly and approached outside corner. In the case of coarse (large) wrinkles, it is necessary to reshape the material.
The most common mistake when installing a ceiling, is wrinkles, folds, as well as gaps in the bypass of heating pipes.
Only well-organized measurement and experienced specialists who give a guarantee for their work will help to avoid such situations. All elements of the frame must fit snugly against the surface of the walls and be securely fastened with appropriate hardware.
sagging ceiling
Ceiling sagging may appear in a situation where flooding has occurred. In this case, the resulting "bubble" can be eliminated quite simply. It is enough to drain the water through the hole for the lamp / chandelier.
Sometimes the ceiling sags and in a completely dry state due to the existing air flows between the main and false ceiling. It is possible to prevent such a situation in advance. To do this, you need to make sure that all the cracks in the ceiling and walls are eliminated, and the canvas is tightly fixed in the structure and does not allow heated air to pass through it.
Wrinkles and folds
Incorrect cutting of the canvas can lead to skew and folds. This is also facilitated by uneven heating of the material during installation work. It's pretty common error during the installation of stretch ceilings.
Competent measurement and high-quality pattern in the hands of experienced craftsmen, who can predict the degree of shrinkage of the canvas, will help to avoid the appearance of creases, folds and wrinkles on the ceiling.
Electrical cable breakdown
When carrying out fastening work, it is required to drill holes in the walls and ceiling. If there is hidden wiring, it is quite possible for the drill to hit the cable. To prevent such a nuisance, it is desirable that the owner of the premises provide a diagram of the location of electrical communications. If such a scheme is not available, you can use elementary search engines that help determine the passage of electrical wires and cables, and also allow you to find fittings in reinforced concrete structures.
In any case, if the repair is just beginning, and it is planned to replace all the wiring, it is advisable that the specialists leave the layout of electrical appliances and cables. Otherwise, it is difficult to avoid such errors when installing stretch ceilings.
It's even better when the wiring inside the frame happens open way in a pleated sleeve. This will then allow for repair work without dismantling the false ceiling.
In the case when heated air exits through the ceiling, it creates negative pressure. In this case, the canvas is pulled up to the main ceiling and fits the fasteners.
This problem is solved in two ways.
- If the existing movement of the air flow is not provided for by the plan and occurs through the cracks in the ceiling, it is necessary to repair the existing damage and seal the ceiling.
- When the existing flow of air from one room to another is provided and useful, the installation of ventilation grilles in both ceilings can solve this issue. In this case, the negative pressure will be compensated and the blade will be in the correct position.
Melting of wallpaper, drywall and plastic structures
Some workers, if they wish to warm up the problem area of the canvas, can bring heat gun too close to the surface. It should be taken into account that the temperature with which the machine acts on the web and surrounding materials from a distance differs from that which is obtained near. In any case, it is necessary to strictly observe all temperature conditions and not use thermal equipment in close proximity to flammable and melting objects.
Poor seam adhesion
When preparing a stretch ceiling in production, they can also make mistakes and make mistakes.
In rare cases, the seam may break when pulled.
With improper installation, or rather with uneven heating of the ceiling, wrinkles on the seams are possible.
You can make hanging beauty with your own hands. If a person is just starting out, it is advisable to train in small areas. You can speed up the learning process when there is information on how to avoid mistakes when installing stretch ceilings.
