Adjustment of metal-plastic windows for the winter. How to set up plastic windows for winter mode. How to determine which mode of plastic windows is set: winter or summer
The Russian climate is characterized by sharp temperature fluctuations in the cold and warm seasons. The difference between summer highs and winter lows is tens of degrees. Plastic windows can be operated at temperatures from -40 ° C to 60 ° C, so residents of most regions of our country do not have to worry about the window's ability to withstand winter frost or summer heat. However, users must properly care for windows so that they effectively protect the room from too low or too high temperatures.
Having prepared the window for winter, you can enjoy
comfort and warmth
Why prepare a window for winter
Plastic windows require maintenance regardless of the time of year. For example, keeping windows clean is not only a matter of aesthetics and hygiene. By timely removing dirt from windows, you prevent damage to the profile and glass by solid particles of dirt. Therefore, the first step in preparing for winter is window cleaning.
Plastic translucent structures are mechanical systems, the mobility of which is provided by fittings. Cleaning, lubricating and adjusting fittings is the second step in preparing windows for the cold season.
The thermal insulation properties of the window depend on the tightness of the sashes to the frame. Therefore, before winter, it is imperative to clean the rubber seals, check their integrity and lubricate with a suitable agent. This is the third stage of preparing translucent structures for winter.
How to wash plastic windows before winter
Start preparing for winter by removing your mosquito net. Wash it under running water in the bathroom and put it away until spring.
If you have a window with a vent valve, close it during cold weather. However, do not forget about the need to regularly ventilate the room even in cold weather. This is necessary to prevent the formation of condensation.
Drainage holes neededpurify
For the cleaning plastic windows Use microfiber cloths and soft detergents. Never use sponges with an abrasive layer, as they damage plastic and glass.
The detergent must be free of abrasive particles and chlorine. Also, do not use old newspapers to clean the windows. They leave invisible scratches on the surface. Use a soapy solution based on dishwashing detergent to clean the window.
Be sure to remove dirt from the drain holes. They ensure the removal of moisture from the window, which prevents it from fogging and freezing. You can clean the drainage hole with a match or a toothpick.
Be sure to wash the rubber seals with soapy water. Do not allow dirt and dust to remain between the seal and the profile. They are usually easily removed with a damp cloth.
How to insulate plastic windows: take care of fittings
The fittings ensure the mobility of the windows, as well as the fixation of the shutters in the desired position. The fittings need to be cleaned of dirt and dust, as well as to apply a protective lubricant. The fittings can be washed with soapy water without abrasive particles and a soft cloth. Do not use for cleaning metal parts windows means with aggressive chemicals.
After cleaning, wipe the fittings with a dry cloth and lubricate the moving parts with machine oil. You can also use silicone oil or Vaseline.
The degree of fit depends on the position
eccentric
Now you need to adjust the hardware.
The degree of fit of the sash to the frame is adjusted using eccentrics or locking pins. They can provide strong, standard or medium pressure (see diagram).
In winter, it is necessary to adjust the pins in such a way that they provide maximum sash pressure. To do this, take a hex wrench and set the eccentric to the position indicated in the diagram. The loose fit mode should be used in the summer, while the standard fit is suitable for the off-season.
If you are unable to set the eccentric to the desired position, contact the specialists who installed your window. Also call a professional if the fully enclosed design is clearly breathable. Usually this problem can be solved by adjusting the fittings.
What to do with the seal
The seal must be washed
and lubricate
It was noted above that rubber seals ensure a snug fit of the sash to the frame. The consumer must monitor the cleanliness of the seal, the absence of cracks and holes in it.
Cleaning of the seal is carried out with a soft cloth and a soapy solution at the same time as washing the profile and the double-glazed window.
After that, the seal must be wiped with a dry cloth and lubricated. Silicone oil must be used as a lubricant. It protects the rubber from cracking.
What else you need to know
Consumers also have other questions in the context of the operation of plastic windows during the cold period. The most common of these include the following:
Why do plastic windows leak in winter?
A plastic window can leak in two cases. Firstly, this is due to a violation of the installation technology. If the installers did not ensure the tightness of the installation seams, the window will leak in the literal sense of the word. To eliminate this shortcoming, you must contact the company that installed your window.
Secondly, consumers often talk about leaking windows when in fact they are talking about condensation. Moisture condenses on the windows due to the large temperature difference between the glass and the air in the room. This happens when an unsuitable double-glazed window is chosen, which does not provide sufficient thermal insulation. In addition, a similar situation occurs if warm air from the heating radiator does not enter the window due to too wide window sills. In these situations, consider replacing the window and/or sill.
Moisture condensation on windows also occurs due to high humidity in room. To solve this problem, ventilate the room several times a day.
Can windows be installed in winter?
In the cold season, the demand for plastic windows falls. Window firms offer customers discounts to compensate for downtime. Many consumers do not take advantage of this opportunity, believing that quality installation possible only during the warm season.
In fact, windows can be installed at temperatures down to -15 °C. In this case, specialists should use the "winter" mounting foam, as well as heat the insulating tapes to operating temperatures. The question remains of the temperature drop in the room in which the installation is carried out. Indeed, the room remains without a window for several tens of minutes. If you have the opportunity to temporarily stay in the next room, you can not postpone the installation of windows until spring. And if you live in one-room apartment, and even with a small child, it is better to postpone installation work.
By the way, installing a plastic window in winter allows you to immediately identify and eliminate all the shortcomings of installation work. In the cold season, any draft that indicates leaky seams will not go unnoticed.
Get your window ready for winter
If you have a suitable high-quality window installed, the installation work is done in compliance with the technologies, and the fittings are adjusted by professionals, then preparing for the winter will not take you much time. It is enough to remove the mosquito net, close the ventilation valve, wash the window, lubricate the fittings and seals. After that, adjust the eccentrics to the maximum fit. Now you can brew tea and enjoy the comfort and warmth.
Adjustment of plastic windows on the principle of "winter-summer" is a fairly simple procedure. You can do it yourself without the help of specialists. What will save you money and keep the warmth and comfort in the house all year round. It will also extend the life of your windows.
Such adjustment of plastic windows is carried out by the method: weakening or strengthening the degree of pressing the sash, by changing the position of the trunnions.
Winter and summer have different degrees.
There is such a thing as "winter-summer mode" on plastic windows.
This means that the adjustment on plastic windows in winter and summer should be completely different. Consider these types of window adjustments in more detail.
Video window adjustment example
plastic window adjustment
Due to the possibility of adjusting plastic windows in the "winter-summer" mode, it is possible to increase the air flow in the warm season and reduce it in the cold.
To carry out the adjustment of plastic windows "winter-summer" is quite simple.
The whole process is associated with the use of a cylinder with a displaced center, pressing the sash against the window frame - an eccentric (trunnion).
plastic window adjustment
It is turned with the necessary screwdriver, and in some windows - manually, slightly pulling a little towards itself.
The manufacturer provides for the so-called "middle" position of the eccentric roller,
plastic window adjustment
which is also called "autumn-spring". In this case, the pressing of the window sash is sufficient, but not excessive.
Window adjustment before the winter season
With a decrease in temperature, especially during the transitional heating period, to achieve minimal heat loss, use the “maximum pressure” window adjustment.
The “winter” position of the eccentric loads the seal to the maximum. For this reason, it is undesirable for newly installed new . In addition, receiving minimal blowing, the room loses additional opportunity ventilation, because in winter it is rarely used, and sometimes not at all.
On the other hand, the "winter" position of the trunnion increases the load on the seal. And this, in turn, will not damage the new window, when it has somewhat lost its elasticity.
Adjusting the window with "maximum pressure" is highly undesirable for the sealing material retains its deformation and may not return to its original position. And this is fraught with its rapid wear.
Therefore, the longer this position of the eccentric is used, the greater the likelihood of an early replacement of the seal.
To ensure maximum pressure, you must:
- pull the trunnion towards you a little
- rotate to the right so that
- (so that the gap between the eccentric roller and the edge of the sash hardware is minimal).
- If there is a notch on the roller, then with the correct position, it will be directed to the seal.
Adjustment of windows for the summer season
End heating period usually falls on fairly warm weather, so the load on the compactor is weakened using the "summer" mode.
In this case, the impact on the seal is minimal. Therefore, this position of the eccentric is welcome for any windows.
Adjusting the trunnion according to this principle somewhat increases the air circulation in the room. However, the question arises about the need for such a transition, since. windows are often ventilated in summer.
To ensure minimum pressure, adjust the window for the summer season as follows:
- the eccentric should be pulled back a little
- rotate to the left so that
- so that the gap between the trunnion and the edge of the sash fittings is maximum.
- If there is a notch on the roller, with the correct position, it will be directed to the window handle.
What gives the adjustment of the plastic window "winter-summer".
Thus, the “winter-summer” adjustment can save and extend the service life of a plastic window. However, the degree of pressure must be increased gradually, from year to year. Only such a principle will allow not to violate the tightness and avoid drafts. In addition, all manipulations for adjusting plastic windows are so simple that they do not require special qualifications, great power efforts, or calling a specialist. Therefore, both a man and a woman can adjust the window according to the “winter-summer” principle with their own hands.
Adjusting windows for winter is very important aspect. But often people do not know about it or simply forget. If you do not engage in the maintenance of windows, then even the most expensive of them can break or lose their properties. Windows must be handled with care, otherwise there may be consequences such as drafts, cold and noise coming from the street.
This manipulation should be carried out before the onset of frost, while the outside temperature is positive.
Why is it necessary?
Probably, many people know that plastic windows have two modes: summer and winter. Each of these modes plays an important role. When buying and installing windows, you should be instructed on how to properly set up and use plastic windows. Thanks to this, you can avoid many problems. However, most often no one knows how to properly configure, so they use the services of specialists. But to set up windows, you will not need much effort, because there is nothing complicated in this.
The initial adjustment is made immediately after the installation of the window. Of course, this makes life easier, but it will not help you in any way when the seasons change in the future.
Many craftsmen say that adjustment is very important for windows, this is the main test of how windows behave in cold weather. By adjusting the windows, the temperature in your room will remain within normal limits, you will be able to avoid drafts and significantly increase the tightness of the windows. If the adjustment is neglected or performed incorrectly, this may cause excessive humidity, and frost may form on the windows in severe frosts. If your window is not the first year, then the tightness of the window is already much lower than at the beginning of its operation, there are quite a few reasons for this problem.
In order to avoid unforeseen breakdowns, windows should be adjusted before each change of seasons. If you do not change the modes from summer to winter, then you will allow cold air to enter your home. As a result, the air temperature in the house drops significantly and more energy is expended to keep warm. The first window adjustment must be made during the initial installation of the window. Try also to conduct technical inspections at least once every 2 years. Often during inspections, specialists find any deviations in the design. The wizard will help you sort out this problem.
When adjusting structures, do not forget that a weak pressure corresponds to the summer season, and a strong one, respectively, to the winter.
Independently adjust the PVC double-glazed window with your own hands on winter period quite easy. Our guide will help you.
Tools
You may need special tools to adjust windows. Try to stock up on tools such as pliers, a hex wrench, Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, and it would be nice to have a set of screwdriver bits in stock.
To lubricate the structure, you can use ordinary machine oil or a special spray.
Identification of places in need of adjustment
In order to determine the places that need to be adjusted, you first need to find out if the sash pressure needs to be adjusted. To do this, you need to set the position of the pins, which are located near the handle, on the edge of the window. The clamp is determined using dots or small strips that are on the round section of the trunnions. If the strips point to the upper position, this means that the window clamp is currently in the middle or normal position. Usually this is the position that the specialist set for you when installing the window.
If you see that the stripes look inside the room, then this indicates that at the moment the design is set for the winter season. And if the stripes look in the opposite direction, then, respectively, for the summer season. In addition to the above, it is useful to determine the frame for sagging. More often, windows that have been installed for a long time are exposed to sagging.
The sagging of the frame (sash) can be determined even by sound. When the sash sags, it rubs against the bottom of the frame, of course, this is accompanied by a specific sound.
Common Problems
The most common plastic window problems are:
- condensate;
- mold;
- depressurization;
- equipment failure;
- freezing in winter time years and other issues.
Condensation and mold- very unpleasant aspects of plastic structures. In principle, the very presence of condensate is the norm, but it should be very small, and it is allowed only at the edges. If the window sweats completely, most likely this is due to high humidity in the room or due to a large temperature difference (outdoors and indoors).
The most economical and, of course, the simplest solution is the banal airing several times a day for 10-15 minutes.
But also a special shutter can be installed on the window, which makes it possible to micro-ventilate. However, this service costs little money. Can be done indoors ventilation system. However, this is not cheap, and it will take a lot of effort.
Mold is the result of condensation. Mold can be caused by improperly made slopes. They can be plastered or made from drywall. The problem with plastered slopes is that they freeze quickly, which leads to the appearance of fungus. Slopes finished with drywall are not such a bad option, especially if they are insulated mineral wool. In this case, they have excellent thermal insulation properties. But it is worth considering that such slopes can be done in rooms with low humidity.
The ideal option is plastic slopes. They are easy to clean, do not need to be painted, and when insulated with mineral wool, they retain heat well.
If the rubber (seal) deteriorates, this may cause poor sealing. The easiest way is to replace the rubber band. However, remember that the gum will last you longer when proper care. Twice a year, the seal must be lubricated with silicone grease. Dust and dirt can accumulate there over time, because of this, the gum loses its elasticity and cracks. To avoid this, simply clean the gum from dust and dirt before lubricating. Do this at least twice a year.
Another common problem is equipment breakdown. This can be caused by dirt, dust and improper maintenance. The first sign may be a clicking sound when turning the handle. Within a year, the mechanism is likely to be broken. To prolong the life of the window, lubricate and clean it at least 2 times a year.
Peculiarities
Before working with a window in the winter season, first you need to set the value to neutral (standard) and check for the fact that the window is blown through. Pressing the gum immediately after installing the window is not recommended, as they can shrink and deform in a new state.
If you have a high-quality seal, then most often, they give a guarantee for it, but this is subject to proper care. If you immediately set the clamp to strong, then it will quickly become unusable, as a result, when the next winter comes, it will be found out that it blows from the windows even when the modes are changed from summer to winter, and the gum has dried up and all cracked. In this case, the seal should be replaced.
There are times when even after adjusting the windows to the correct mode, in winter it still bleeds through the window, and even replacing with a new insulation did not help. Usually this happens if the house "sat down", then the window also sags. When you turn the window handle, the trunnion should go behind the plate and press the window firmly. If this does not happen, then the window setting should be different.
How to put?
- Before starting work, you need to find out which of the pins do not reach the plate. To do this, inspect the window sash and remember all the protrusions. After that, you need to close the window.
- Further grab the frame where the trunnions are installed, and pull towards you. If the trunnion has gone beyond the ledges, then the window will be immovable, if it has not gone, then, accordingly, the window can be moved. Thus, check all places where there are trunnions and determine where there is no tight pressing. Determine in which direction you want to move the sash. This can be done by adjusting the top and bottom loops.
- If the window does not close well at the bottom, then you need to adjust the lower loop. At the very bottom of the hinge there is an adjustment hole, it can be for a hex key or for an asterisk. To adjust, turn the key clockwise or counterclockwise. Accordingly, along the way, the window moves towards the hinge, and against it moves away. If you have unscrewed everything to the stop, but there are no changes, return everything to its original position, most likely, the matter is different.
- There is another adjustment screw at the bottom of the hinge, but to get to it, you need to put the window on the air and remove the protective cap. There will be no problems with the removal, it is done very easily. After that, you will see a recess, insert the hexagon there and twist it clockwise or counterclockwise. Turning it clockwise raises the sash, and turning it counterclockwise lowers it.
- If such a problem occurs on the top of the window, open it 90 degrees. There is also a hinge at the top of the window, however it is not the same as the bottom one in terms of design. But there is also a hole for a hex screwdriver. Then make the adjustment by turning the key in the desired direction. However, do not forget that between the sash and the hinge you need to leave a distance of just a few centimeters. This is necessary so that the swing-out mechanism has the opportunity to go there. Each time you turn the key, check how your window closes and opens.
Usually, pressure adjustment means changing the mode for different seasons. In winter, the clamp must be strengthened, and in the summer - weakened.
First, make sure that you really need adjustment. The easiest way is to hold closed window at the sash a match or a lighter. The flame will show whether the window needs to be adjusted, whether it is blowing out of it or not. Open the window and take a close look at inner part sashes. There you will see three trunnions, they are the ones that regulate the window pressure. You can adjust the window with a hex screwdriver.
Windows do not allow extraneous noise from the street to penetrate into the apartment, provide the desired air temperature in the room. Plastic structures after installation require periodic maintenance. First of all, you need to figure out how to translate windows into winter mode why it is necessary when to carry out such procedures. In addition, it is important to study the principle of operation of locking mechanisms, which have a number of functional features.
Don't forget about this wonderful mode in winter!
Window Modes
In the absence of theoretical knowledge and practice, it is advisable to contact specialists. They can give professional advice on the accumulated issues and offer best options problem solution.
There are three modes on plastic windows, with the help of which the pressing force of the sashes is regulated. Among them:
- Summer - the sash is pressed weakly. This position promotes air circulation in the room. Sealing rubber is minimally subject to wear.
- Winter - provides a fairly tight clamp. There is no movement of air masses, because of this, heat is retained in the room. In this case, the maximum load on the seal is carried out.
- Standard - middle position. Often, installers leave structures in this form. The difference is that true professionals explain to the owners how to switch windows to winter mode (or summer), and unscrupulous ones do not consider it necessary to tell this. This position is intended for the off-season.
In this video you will learn how to adjust plastic windows
Switch pros and cons
It is enough not to put plastic windows in winter mode for 2-3 years, so that even after adjustment, it starts to blow from the window sill or balcony door. There are a number of problems that can arise if the euro window is not adjusted correctly. The main one is a violation of the microclimate in the room.
Excessive humidity causes condensation on the walls, frames and double-glazed windows. All this leads to the formation of mold. Summer mode in winter leads to significant heat losses, it becomes necessary to heat the room additionally, which is fraught with an increase in the cost of paying for electricity or gas.
If you use the winter position in the summer, this will lead to rapid wear of the rubber seals. As a result, any subsequent adjustments will be useless. The way out is to replace the seals, which are expensive.
Do not use winter variations of using windows in summer
Disadvantages of window adjustment may appear with incorrect manipulations that the owner performs on his own. If the procedure is carried out correctly, the change of modes will benefit. First of all, you need to figure out in what situations the switch will be justified.
Timely change of position increases the life of the windows, even if such manipulations have not been carried out for a long time. From drafts in the winter or dust ingress in the summer due to the deterioration of the sealant, you can get rid of it if you rearrange the structures “for the winter”. This will delay the repair for one to two years. Sagging loops can be eliminated in the same way. The last resort is to replace the hardware.
Types of eccentrics
Not all plastic windows can change the modes. To figure out if there is such a system on specific double-glazed windows, you need to pay attention to the locking mechanism. The eccentric located in the middle may be oval. In addition, there are parts that have a hexagon hole in the center. This indicates the presence of a winter regime in window structures.
Algorithm for adjusting plastic structures with various types fittings are identical, only their position differs. Before starting work, it is necessary to study all types of trunnions:
- Oval parts after installation are often located diagonally - this is the standard position, the middle between winter and summer mode. Horizontal arrangement means "winter", vertical - "summer".
- On a round pin for a hexagon, you can determine the position as follows: if the part is extended in relation to the street, this is the winter mode; placed in the center - standard; recessed towards the room - summer.
- The third option is a round hex eccentric, but when rotated, it does not move. This type of fitting is equipped with a label indicating the position of the windows. The value is similar to the previous option: if the label is located towards the street - "winter", towards the room - "summer", in the middle - "standard".
There are several types of tools for regulating the winter regime.
Preparatory work
Before setting up the fittings of plastic windows for winter mode, it is necessary to perform a number of additional manipulations. First, use a rag to remove grease from the locking mechanisms. This is necessary so that dirt and dust do not get inside during the adjustment process. After the procedure, you need to restore the lubrication layer.
Then you need to find all the eccentrics, the number of which depends on the size of the window. If there is a mosquito net, you need to dismantle it, rinse it and put it aside until the arrival of heat.
Before the onset of cold weather, the seal should be treated with silicone or glycerin grease. Experts recommend giving preference to silicone-based sprays, which can be purchased at automotive or household outlets.
Many craftsmen believe that switching fittings from "summer" to "winter" should be when drafts are felt. But this option is optimal for those areas of the country where a warm climate prevails. The most suitable time is the beginning heating season. In addition, misted glass or frozen ice on the inside of PVC windows indicates the need for adjustment.
Before changing the mode in plastic structures, you need to carefully examine the rubber parts. There are situations when the fittings are adjusted correctly, but the seal has become unusable (torn or cracked). In such a situation, it is imperative to replace it. For one season you can buy cheap products, but they will not last more than a year.
After a detailed study of the fittings and how to translate it, you can proceed to the adjustment itself. For example, over time window frame may skew, causing one side to fit more tightly than the other. This situation is unacceptable, because an additional load is created on all components and drafts appear, so it is important to set it up correctly.
You need to start adjusting the sash horizontally or vertically from the bottom hinge. To do this remove the protective plastic cover and find a screw with a special hole for the hex, which is located on top.
Turning it clockwise will raise the frame, turning it counterclockwise will lower it. To move the sash to the frame or, conversely, place it further, turn the screw located at the bottom of the hinge.
Step-by-step instruction
Having understood the theory, you can proceed to the practical setting of window structures. Step by step guide how to winterize plastic windows:
- After opening the sash, find all the trunnions, there are three of them on standard windows. If the marker is closer to the street, it must be moved in the opposite direction so that it is located towards the premises.
- To work, you will need a hexagon of a suitable size, often a 4 or 6 mm tool is used. It is desirable that during the manipulation there is a set of different keys at hand, because thin products will be needed for vertical and horizontal adjustment.
- Having picked up the tool, proceed to turn the trunnion. Perform similar manipulations for the rest of the eccentrics. Then check the tightness of the abutment of the sash to the frame.
Regardless of the frame design, tuning is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. It is important to follow certain rules and follow step-by-step instructions. If the windows were installed not so long ago and are still under warranty, it is better to call a specialist from the company that did the installation. Such a procedure is free, but one cannot hope that everything will be done perfectly, one should not exclude the possibility of self-finishing the structures. After setting up at least one sash, subsequent maintenance can be done by hand.
It is not enough to install a PVC window block in the opening. It still needs to be properly adjusted so that the sashes close tightly and without problems. Also, periodic adjustment of the window then must be done independently or with the help of craftsmen in spring and autumn, in order to transfer it to summer or winter operation. Moreover, this setting should be treated with all the attention. This is necessary not only to get rid of drafts, but also to increase the service life of the translucent structure.
Winter and summer settings
In winter, the plastic window should be buried as tightly as possible in order to minimize air exchange between the street and the room. No one needs outdoor cold in the house in winter. In summer, on the contrary, even when closed, it should provide some air circulation (micro-ventilation) so that the room is not too stuffy due to the heat.
Seasonal adjustment of the home window by transferring it to the “summer” or “winter” mode is carried out using locking pins on the side of the opening sash. They are fixed rectangular or roller (round with a risk on one side or oval).
Types of pins on plastic windows
Depending on the type, adjustment of this fitting is done by turning manually, with pliers, a screwdriver or a hex key. At the same time, in some cases, before turning, the mechanism must be pulled towards itself, and only then rotated.
How to adjust window pressure
The window trunnion can be set in one of three positions:
- "WINTER" - with maximum pressure.
- "SUMMER" - with a weak clamp.
- Neutral (standard).
In the first case, on the round trunnion, the risk is turned to the street, and the oval is set horizontally. In the second, the risk is installed inside, and the oval stands vertically. The third option - the dash looks up, the oval is fixed at an angle.
Instead of a movable pin on the sash, some window block manufacturers install a non-adjustable locking element in the shape of a rectangle. In this case, it is possible to adjust the plastic window only by adjusting the screw on the mounting plate.
Adjustment of the window for winter and summer periods
Seasonal Adjustment Highlight window sashes- the need to constantly transfer them from "summer" to "winter" and vice versa. With a strong "winter" pressure, the rubber seal is compressed, due to which it gradually begins to deteriorate. Often, the owners of PVC windows are faced with the fact that after a few years this gum has to be changed. This happens precisely because the sash, according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the window product, is not transferred to summer mode with a weakened clamp, but left after the winter as is.
How to adjust the hinges of the plastic window sashes?
In addition to seasonal adjustment of the degree of pressure, adjustment of plastic windows is also carried out by tightening / loosening the screws in the hinges with which the sashes are attached to the frame. There are two of them - one from below, the second from above. They differ in design, so they are pressed in different ways.
Variants of plastic window mechanisms
It is necessary to adjust the hinges on plastic windows due to:
- initially poor illiterate settings of the window block during installation;
- natural wear of the seal;
- inaccurate and rough closing of the valves;
- shrinkage of the window structure;
- wear parts of the swing-out mechanism.
As a result of all this, the sash sags and does not pretend to be tight or does not close at all. However, to return it to its place, it is enough just to tighten the hinges. Moreover, you can perform such a pull-up on your own. You do not need to call the wizards from the company that installed the window. It is enough to have a screwdriver and a hex wrench handy. This is not repairing gasoline generators for the home or a submersible pump for dirty water, everything is much easier with window structures.
Places for adjusting the plastic window
Upper
The top hinge is adjusted from the side with a hexagon with a fully open sash. After turning the screw clockwise there, the window leaf moves away from the frame, and when tightened against it, it is pressed down so that the barrel is less blown from above.
There is also another bolt on the top swing-out mechanism for finer adjustment. But to get to it, you will have to press the blocker (set it strictly vertically) and turn the handle to the top ventilation (also to the vertical position). As a result, the sash on top should pull away from the frame, hanging on the bottom hinge and opening full access to the top one.
Top hinge adjustment
It is important not to overtighten the adjusting bolts here. There should be a small empty space between the sash and the frame, where, when the window is closed, a tilt and turn device made of steel will be placed.
lower
The bottom hinge also has two adjustment screws. One of them is located on the side at the very bottom. He is responsible for adjusting horizontally - he presses the sash against the frame or pulls it away from it.
The second is located directly in the rotary mechanism itself. To get to it, you need to remove the plastic cap-overlay from the loop. This screw allows you to adjust the opening window leaf vertically (height). Turn clockwise - it rises, against - it falls.
Bottom hinge adjustment
Manipulations during self-pulling of the loops on the plastic window should be done very carefully and without applying excessive effort. Do not immediately tighten or unscrew the adjusting screw all the way. It is better to turn it a quarter of a turn first and close the sash to check to see how much it has become evener in the frame. And only then, if necessary, you can tighten the bolt even further.
How to adjust the handle
The handle on the PVC window unit is actually not regulated in any way and does not affect the degree of pressing the sash. It does not participate in the adjustment of the window, but is only a mechanism for attracting the opening leaf to the frame, as well as transferring the latter to the micro-ventilation position and opening from above.
However, often the handle becomes loose or starts to jam. To tighten or replace it, it is enough to get to a couple of bolts. They are located under a plastic overlay located on the profile at the base of this window fitting. This plug needs to be slightly pulled and turned, the fasteners are immediately available.
Arm adjustment
If the handle turns hard or is stuck, then the problem usually lies not in it, but in the hinges and the top folding mechanism. These window elements are directly related to each other. A wave is possible when the metal elements are rusted. Then the lever inside the profile will not allow the handle to turn. To get rid of this problem, you need to lubricate the hinges.
How to fix window problems
Problems with window blocks are very diverse. In some cases, it will be enough to do the simplest adjustment of the plastic window with the tightening of the adjusting screws with your own hands, while in others it will be necessary to change the broken fittings. Here, in many ways, as with heating - most often you can achieve comfortable temperatures in the room simply by adjusting the room thermostats for gas boilers. But in some situations it will be necessary to rebuild the existing heating system with the replacement of some of its elements.
