Filters for spray booths
The absence of dust and mechanical particles in the air supplied to the box is a factor that determines the suitability of the camera for use, since contaminants that fall on the car body during the painting process negate all the efforts of the painter.
Depending on the filtering method, boxes are classified into two groups:
- Dry spray booths equipped with roll or panel filters for coarse and fine cleaning;
- Painting booth with a water curtain - when supplied, the air flow passes through a water cascade or a tank with an irrigation system. Water filtration in them replaces the primary coarse filter.
Filters for spray booths are classified according to their functional purpose into:
- Coarse cleaning - mounted on the external air duct of the supply ventilation, cleans the flow from large mechanical particles;
- Fine cleaning - installed on the ceiling of the box or on the internal supply air duct, cleans the air from dust;
- Floor filter for spray booth - installed on exhaust fan, cleans the pumped air from toxic paint fumes.
Filters for painting booths - Consumables that become contaminated during operation, resulting in a reduction in their throughput and cleaning quality. When servicing the box, consumables are replaced, the frequency depends on the filter material:
- Cardboard camera filters are changed every 2 weeks;
- Fiberglass - once every 40 days;
- Ceiling standard EU5 - every 1000 hours;
- Floor-standing - every 150 hours.

The hood in the paint booth is installed with your own hands upon completion of installation of the box box. The first stage of installation is the creation of a raised subfloor and the placement of an air intake duct in it, through which air is discharged outside the chamber.
The raised floor is constructed by pouring concrete into the formwork, which has grooves for laying air ducts, or is formed on an existing floor. With this approach, a grid floor 20-40 cm high is welded from reinforcing bars, an air intake is placed inside the grid and connected to an exhaust compressor.
The supply air duct box is placed on the ceiling of the chamber, a compressor is connected to it, connected to a heat generator or electric heating elements, due to which the flow entering the chamber is heated to the required temperature.
To prevent “blind spots” along the side contours of the chamber, 8 air ducts (2 for each wall) are routed from the supply duct along the perimeter of the box walls, providing horizontal air supply.

Safe operation of the box is achieved due to the following factors:
- The heat exchanger that heats the supply air is equipped with a protective thermostat;
- The thermal insulation of the chamber is made of fire-resistant materials - mineral or basalt wool;
- The box is equipped with an autonomous fire extinguishing system;
- Ventilation heating elements are grounded according to
- The air ducts are equipped with explosion-proof air supply shut-off valves and check valves;
- In places where fire-hazardous paint fumes accumulate (particles settle in the lower part of the box), additional air intakes are installed if necessary.
Dry spray booth Thanks to the design and calculated technical proportions and parameters, it maximally removes excess paint mist and polluted air from the spray area, cleaning it.
It is very important to choose equipment with correct placement fan and power, because if:
The fan is weak - the suction power is insufficient, solvent vapors remain in the air and the paint settles on the floor and walls;
The fan is too strong - paint is removed that has not yet reached the product.
The noise load and the amount of power consumed by the equipment are also IMPORTANT.
Operating principle of a dry filtration spray booth:
1. Remove paint particles and dust from the spray area.
2. Removing the paint aerosol and eliminating the possibility of its spreading into surrounding areas.
3. Providing necessary conditions to create high quality coatings.
4. The removed air is cleaned of mechanical paint particles (remaining in the filters) and released into the atmosphere.
How is air filtered in dry spray booths?
The polluted air flow created by a fan (installed on the roof or diagonally), with paint particles, moves by inertia into the chamber opening where one or two filters are installed.
Filters are:
1. in rolls
The most popular is inertial action. Particles of paint, hitting the inner wall of the filter several times, settle, and the air continues to move by inertia. High filter holding capacity allows you to work without sweating the air suction speed. So in a dry painting booth 2 meters long, the suction area is 3.6 sq.m of surface (2 pieces of 2 meter rolls), the volume of paint retained is about 15 kg/sq.m. That is, it is capable of holding 54 kg of paint waste.
– used as the only filter level. Basically, preference is given in car cameras (specifics of placement). Provides the necessary degree of cleaning, however, when filling, the air flow rate decreases.
Air, cleared of mechanical paint particles, is released through ventilation into the atmosphere.
How long do filters last in a dry spray booth?
The question directly depends on many factors.
1. How much paint, varnishes, primers, etc. sprayed per day?
2. What kind of spray guns are used? (Which spray system?)
3. What products are painted?
4. How are cabins cleaned and filters replaced?
If you have a 2 meter dry paint booth, and you spray 20 liters per day (excluding solvent!!!), using a Chinese spray gun (with a traditional spray system, material transfer coefficient 40-45%), then (20 liters x 40 % = 8 liters per fog!), then taking into account the holding capacity of the filter is 15 kg/sq.m. (cabin suction area 3.6 sq.m.) – 1 filter replacement will last for – 7 days.
And one roll for 1 month!
What length should I choose for a dry spray booth?
You need to decide on the maximum size of the products to be painted and select a similar size or with a small margin. That is, if the product is 2.7 m, the cabin is 3 meters, if it is 1.8, then 2 meters. It also depends on how many painters will work in one booth.
What depth should I choose for a dry spray booth?
The depth of the cabin depends on the allocated room for painting; if it is planned that the painter will be inside the cabin, then you need to start from the size of the product. If the room is allocated 4 meters, and the cabin will be installed 3 meters, it is generally advisable to use a cabin with minimal side walls. Walls are also needed if there are two different painting stations nearby, to avoid problems with cross-pollination.

Why do you need a dry spray booth? Can you work without it? We threw out the filters, we work like this!
Using open ventilation, without a cleaning system, violates all fire and sanitary safety requirements. The level of solvents and paint in the room is constantly accumulating. A stream of contaminated air, without first removing paint, is released into the atmosphere through ventilation and settles on the surface around your building. In addition, there is a process of constant paint sticking to the air duct and fan. Any spark can lead to irreversible consequences! It is impossible to determine how long you can work in such conditions, it could be a month or a year or two, and when the day comes that will not allow you to change anything!
What is the working height of the spray booth (cabin)?
The cabin height is the entire height including the fan and roof. The working height is the suction area. The height of a standard cardboard filter is 0.9 m. Typically, cabins have 2 rows of filters with a total height of 1.8 m. There are models of increased height, in which filters are installed in 3 rows - 2.7 m in height.
