Requirements for heating a private house with gas cylinders. How to make bottled gas heating Home heating with gas bottles
Spring is coming, but the question is how and with what to heat Vacation home does not lose its relevance.
Regular readers of our site have already managed to get acquainted with the article: "".
Despite the fact that there are many heating systems on the market, many residents would like to heat their home with mains gas.
However, it is not always possible to connect to the “blue fuel” pipeline. If there is no gas and the gasification of your individual housing does not shine in the near future, the alternative will be liquefied gas from balloons.
Is gas-balloon heating profitable?
It seems that autonomous gas heating of a private house is easy and simple to organize. All you need is:
- Buy a gas boiler. Most of the boilers operating on main gas can also operate on liquefied gas. To do this, you need to change the nozzles and, if necessary, reconfigure the control system;
- Purchase a gearbox, gas-cylinder equipment and valves;
- Connect and set up the heating system.
The main questions that arise for any homeowner who is thinking about an LPG heating system are:
- Will I be able to heat the house;
- How long can the boiler work on one cylinder.
Autonomous gas heating of a private house is best organized using 50-liter liquefied gas cylinders.
The practical experience of the members of the forum says what to drown a private house gas from cylinders - unprofitable if the cottage is poorly insulated, and the building has large heat losses. It is necessary to take into account the total area country house. Gas heating from cylinders of a cottage with an area of 150-200 sq.m. can cost a pretty penny.
In this case, solid fuel boilers can become an alternative.
- I heard that one 50-liter tank is enough for 1-2 days of work (and this is without taking into account the use of hot water supply).
- I heard that one cylinder with a capacity of 50 liters is enough for 1-2 days of work (and this is without taking into account the use of hot water).
Schweik:
- I heated a house with an area of 70 sq.m. with gas. On average (depending on the temperature outside), one 50 l cylinder was enough for me for a period of 1 to 7 days.
Endless:
- I have a well-insulated frame house. I heat about 140 sq.m. At outdoor temperatures down to -20°C, three cylinders are enough for 5-6 days. At -5°C - for 10 days.
- I have a house with an area of 145 sq.m, the foundation is UWB, heating warm floors plus hot water. The boiler turned on twice a day, for 2-3 hours. Cylinders of 50 l filled with 20 kg. The temperature in the house was set to 23°C. The monthly costs are as follows:
- November - it took 4 cylinders. Temperature outside +5-0°C.
- December - it took 10 pieces. Temperature outside -10 -27°C.
- January - it took 8 pcs. Outdoor temperature -5 - 20°C.
- February - it took 7 pieces. Outdoor temperature -5 -15°C.
- March - it took 6 pcs. Outdoor temperature -5 +5°C.
From 35 to 42 liters of gas is placed in one gas cylinder, in liquid form it is 22 kg. Consumption of liquefied gas for any boiler - 15 liters per day per 100 sq.m. heated area.
Before you understand whether the game is worth the candle and whether autonomous gas heating of a country house will pay off, you need to familiarize yourself with the following data, which presents the economic feasibility of a particular type of heating.
1. = 33 kop / kWh.
2. An electric boiler operating in conjunction with a TA (thermal accumulator) at a night rate = 0.92-1.32 rubles / kWh.
3. Pellet boiler = 1.20 -1.32 rubles / kW * h.
For comparison, the efficiency of heating on liquefied gas is only 2.32 rubles / kWh.
When calculating the efficiency of a particular heating system, it should be taken into account that in the suburbs of Moscow and other regions there may be priorities in choosing fuel, which depend on its availability and climatic conditions. Somewhere it is cheaper to heat the house with coal, and somewhere with firewood.
When calculating the profitability of heating with liquefied gas, many people forget that cylinders will have to be transported to a gas station on average once a week, and these are additional costs, both monetary and temporary. Therefore, heating on liquefied gas can be beneficial if 4 conditions are met:
- Small area of the house - up to 100 sq.m.;
- The house is well insulated;
- In the near future, your village is planned to be gasified, main gas will be connected. In this case, heating with liquefied gas is a temporary measure that allows you not to buy two different boilers;
- The liquefied gas boiler is a backup and works in conjunction with other heating appliances.
evo:
– When I leave for work, I turn off the home gas boiler and turn on the heaters powered by electricity, because. in frosts below -20°C, the gas runs out quickly. In such a “sparing” mode, two cylinders are enough for me for 7 days. And that includes cooking. hot water. I recommend purchasing at least 3 bottles. One - for the operation of the boiler, one - as a reserve, one - for refueling.
You can also mount a bunch of electric and gas boilers.
Despite the increase in the cost of such a heating system, the overpayment is not for the sake of saving, but to increase comfort.
In this case, the need to travel and refill tanks is partially eliminated.
Features of gas-balloon heating
To install a reliable and safe heating system on liquefied gas, it is necessary to understand its features, which are due to the properties of this fuel.
Cylinders are filled with a mixture of propane and butane. This mixture, at high pressure, is in a liquid state, which is necessary for its transportation. Also containers can be refilled different types fuel - depending on the season:
- technical butane (BT);
- summer technical mixture of propane and butane (SPBTL);
- winter technical mixture of propane and butane (SPBTZ).
Liquefied hydrocarbon gases (propane-butane) are abbreviated as LPG.
Gas-balloon heating requires special attention in winter.
– We decided to heat a house with an area of 120 sq.m. using a gas boiler running on liquefied gas. Gas cylinders are on the street in metal cabinets. There is one for the stove, and a bundle of 5 cylinders has been made for the gas boiler, but so far only 2 are connected. When the temperature drops to -2 ° C, a problem arises - gas does not flow, and the boiler, accordingly, does not work. I think the gas is frozen.
Gas neither in pipes, nor in cylinders does not freeze. It just does not evaporate, and again turns into a liquid inside gas pipe if it has a negative temperature.
This happens for the following reason. The boiling point of butane is about 0°C. The boiling point of propane is -40°C. At a street temperature of -10 ° C, the propane-butane mixture in the cylinder boils, giving out the gaseous fraction necessary for the operation of the boiler. Propane will evaporate first, and only then the turn will reach butane. During this process, heat is absorbed. The balloon starts to freeze. As a result, the gas remaining in the cylinder (butane) also cools down. This leads to a decrease in the degree of its evaporation. Accordingly, the pressure necessary for the operation of the boiler drops.
There is only one way out - to prevent the cylinder from freezing and warm it to a positive temperature, necessary for the evaporation of butane. You can do this as suggested by a forum member with a nickname Ruslan2.
- In my opinion, the best way to combat this problem, is the forced blowing of gas cylinders with warm air from the room (boiler room) where the boiler is installed: with a fan through an aluminum corrugation or plastic air ducts brought into gas boxes, etc.
It is also possible to heat the cylinders (only not with open electrical cables!) According to the principle of a warm water floor, placing them in an insulated gas cabinet.
Safety measures when using gas equipment
A mixture of propane-butane is much heavier than air. Liquefied gas from cylinders always accumulates at the bottom. In the event of a gas leak, if the cylinder is in the room, you can simply not smell it until it reaches an explosive concentration. Therefore, it is planned to install the container outdoors, vertically in an iron box with holes at the bottom and top for ventilation.
gray-haired2:
- I know a case when a man lowered a gas cylinder into the cellar. One day the homeowner decided to pick potatoes. He climbed into the cellar. He did not feel the smell of gas, and since. there was no switch, he just screwed the light bulb into the socket. There was an explosion. The man was lucky, being at the epicenter of the explosion, he escaped with only a shell shock, and a pile of construction debris remained from his garage and two neighboring ones.
Safety rules prohibit: placing gas cylinders in the underground, basements, cellars, pits dug in the yard or near the house.
- Do not use for heating gas cylinders electric heaters, heating cables, heating elements, etc.
- Gas cylinders must be placed in special cabinets installed on the north side of the house.
- The cylinder must not be filled more than 80% of its volume. Liquid gas has a large coefficient of volumetric expansion. This means that as the temperature rises, the volume of gas in the vessel increases. The expansion coefficient of the propane-butane mixture is about 7%. According to Russian standards, 15% is left for expansion. A cylinder of any thickness and strength will burst if filled to more than 93% in -20°C frost and brought into a room where +20°C.
- All detachable connections on the gas line must be checked for leakage by washing.
- Detachable connections are made at the points of attachment of various elements where other connections are not possible (faucets, meters, gas appliances, etc.)
- Gas pipelines are made from steel pipes with a wall thickness of at least 2 mm. When passing through the walls, the pipe is placed in a case foamed with a soft material. The connection of the boiler to the gas pipeline can be done with a flexible connection specially designed for this purpose. The reducer is connected to the gas pipeline with a rubber-fabric sleeve (durite hose).
- If the cylinder is located in the room next to the boiler, then the connection is made with a rubber-fabric sleeve.

From our video you can learn how to heat a large house in the absence of main gas.
In this article we will talk about what you need to know if you decide to heat your home with liquefied gas. Gas (a product of oil refining) is liquefied under high pressure, and in this state it is supplied to the consumer. This makes it possible to fill the cylinders with a large volume. The cylinder is connected to the heating boiler through a reducer (a device for reducing the pressure in the system). The gas leaving the cylinder passes through the reducer and, as a result of a rapid decrease in pressure, returns to its original (gaseous) state. In the boiler, it is burned, releasing a large number of heat.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
- gas is an environmentally friendly product and meets all regulations and standards;
- autonomy, quite simple to connect and operate;
- the pressure in the pipes is relatively stable;
- gas consumption is minimal;
- two times cheaper than diesel fuel.
Flaws:
- at a negative temperature, if the cylinder is placed outside, the system may turn off, since the condensate, freezing, prevents the gas from escaping;
- gas cylinders must be kept in a sufficiently warm place.
Fuels and basic rules
Cylinders can be refilled different brands fuel:
- technical butane- denoted by the abbreviation - B
- a mixture of propane and butane technical summer - SPBTL
- a mixture of propane and butane technical winter - SPBTZ.
Following simple safety rules can save your life.
Heating system
The heating system itself consists of the following elements:
- Fuel, in our case, liquefied gas.
- Boiler, one or two circuit, with the transition to liquefied gas.
- Radiator, heat transfer element.
- piping system, to distribute heated water to radiators.
Let's take a closer look at the components of the entire system:
With fuel (gas), everything is clear enough, you just need to purchase new ones, quality cylinders, preferably 50 liters, or a gas tank (five cubic meters for storing liquefied gas, approximately 4250 liters). I advise you to purchase in a specialized store.
To calculate the gas consumed by the system, you need to know:
- room area, which you are going to heat;
- boiler power and coefficient useful action(efficiency).
Calculation of the cost of balloon heating
The heating season is approximately 6-7 months, multiply by 30 days and multiply by 24 hours, then multiply by 0.5 (factor to calculate the operating time gas burner in the boiler at maximum power, we take about 50% of the total time of the entire system) = 2520 hours.
To heat up 100 sq. m. premises, you will need a boiler with a capacity of approximately 10 kW.
Calculation of gas fuel consumption, which will be required for heating the house: 10 kW. hours * 2520 hours = 25,200 kW. h.
For a boiler with a power of 10 kW. and, with an efficiency of at least 90%, the fuel consumption (liquefied gas) is 0.86 kg/h:
- calculation of gas consumption for heating a house will look like this: 0.86 kg / h * 2520 h = 2167.2 kg / year;
- in a container for 27 liters of liquefied gas in total 11.5 kilograms;
- the average cost of a liter of gas is approximately 14 rubles;
We calculate the cost of the required amount of liquefied gas for heating season: (2167.2 kg / year * 27 l. / 11.5 kg.) * 14 rubles. = 71 860 rubles per year.
If containers (bolons) of 50 liters are used. in which approximately 21.2 kg., liquid gas is filled: (2167.2 kg / year. * 50 l. / 21.2 kg.) * 14 rubles. = 71,558 rubles per year.
Of course example calculation, for a more accurate calculation, much more values are required (location of the house, area, degree of thermal insulation of the house, windows, doors, and a number of other factors that can affect the consumption of heat energy).
In principle, there is nothing complicated in choosing a boiler, its power is calculated based on the area of the room, for example, a boiler with a capacity of 10kw., suits the room in 100 sq.m. The main thing is that the boiler should be a good, well-known company specializing in this equipment. And a wide range of spare parts were on sale for it (there is nothing eternal). You can put double boiler, and it will provide you not only with warmth in the house, but also hot water, but at the same time the gas consumption will increase (depending on what the hot water consumption will be). And if you have a two or three-story house, then the boiler should take a little more power. So it will last much longer.
Specialists perform much accurate calculations, to calculate the thermal energy of heating radiators by power. Very important heating area calculation radiators, for their correct distribution.
When buying radiators, you will definitely need the simplest calculation of heating power. In order to do this, it is necessary to calculate the area of the room and its height, as well as the cost of thermal energy (power) per 1 m. Under standard conditions, for a typical room, approximately 41 W. power. And multiplying the volume of the room (room) by this indicator, we get the amount of heat that is necessary to provide the radiator when heating the room (room). For example, to heat one room with a total area 18 sq.m. and height 3m. you need a radiator, with an ordinal power at 2.5 kW.
Now you need to calculate the number of radiators for heating the room. We divide the power necessary for heating the room by the power of one section of the battery, we can get required amount radiator sections. If my memory serves me, then one section bimetal radiator heating, has a power of approximately 150 watts. Pre purchase radiator battery, on the package, or in his passport, it is reported its thermal power. This is not a complex concept that refers to the heat (in quantitative terms) that the battery will release when cooled from the operating temperature of the heating, to a temperature of about 18-20 degrees Celsius.
Calculation of radiators and their number by specialists
Of course, the most The right way, is to apply for calculation to specialists. Their method is quite accurate and allows you to calculate the required number of radiator sections for each room in a residential building, and for any other room in a private house. Their method takes into account many parameters:
- material, what the walls are made of and their thickness
- window type, installed in every room of the house
- area ratio walls and windows
- climatic conditions in your area
- is the room above your room heated
- how many walls your room goes outside the house
- square rooms and ceiling heights.
Piping system
The system itself consists of properly selected and laid pipes of heating mains, which connect your radiators and the boiler. There are two types of such systems for laying pipelines: one-pipe and two-pipe.
When a heating system is being designed, a two-pipe connection scheme involves the installation of two pipes on each of the batteries, the so-called "supply and return". Through one of them (supply), the coolant (water) enters the heater, through the other (return), having already cooled down, it returns to the boiler. The use of such a wiring diagram makes it possible to achieve the same degree of heating coolant in all batteries at home. Two-pipe type wiring is divided into two main varieties:
- Connection of radiators in parallel-series (one closed ring).
- Using a collector, to which all radiators are connected with separate sleeves (pipes).
The second type of connection of radiators makes it possible regulate the temperature each battery. But she also has a tangible financial disadvantage, is the need for installation a large number metal-plastic or other pipes for heating for supplying to radiators. A single-pipe heating scheme made of metal-plastic pipes functions as follows: the heated coolant (water) simply flows through the pipes from one radiator to another. Simply put, such a system is consistent, and this leads to a gradual coolant cooling along his path. This means that the last radiator in the chain will always be significantly colder than the first battery. The main advantage of one-pipe heating system heating from metal-plastic pipes - it's cheap her arrangement.
Also, very important is degree of thermal insulation your house. If you have taken all measures and insulated walls, ceilings, floors, put new good windows, and you have a modern, high-quality, Entrance door(doors). Then the heat loss of your heating system will be minimal and for the season, you will spend much less money than planned.
Cottage... For some, this word is associated with physical work, for others - with relaxation and a wonderful place to spend time. But in any case, sooner or later, the owners of a suburban building face a solution to the issue regarding the creation of comfortable climatic conditions in the cold season. Stoves more and more remain in the last century, but heating the cottage with a gas cylinder, boiler or convector is becoming more and more popular.
Gas is a powerful energy carrier that has been and remains the most relevant and efficient energy resource.
In arrangement gas heating at the cottage you can use:
- boiler;
- cylinders;
- convectors.
Gas boiler
The laid gas pipeline allows you to create a heating system using a boiler. In this case, it is important to determine the power of the unit itself. Approximately 1.7 kW of power is needed for heating 1 sq. m of premises (this is with a margin). With a cottage area of 30 sq. m cope gas boiler of 51 kw.
Rice. oneBoilers are found floor and wall. Outdoor ones are more suitable for large cottages with frequent attendance, they do not depend on electricity, but they take up a lot of territory and require additional equipment. Wall-mounted units are compact, easy to use, almost all models are double-circuit (at the same time they heat domestic water), but have low durability.
Gas heating of the cottage with the help of a boiler requires the construction of a boiler room (Fig. 1). It is not necessary to build a separate building for this, you can also use part of a summer cottage.
For autonomous heating of the cottage you will need:
- pipes for coolant;
- radiators;
- chimney;
- pump for water circulation and others.
Advantages of this heating system:
- offline work;
- simple use;
- saving;
- stable fuel pressure.
Gas cylinders in the country and a boiler
Many territories, including summer cottages, are far from gas pipelines. Gas cylinders are good option to create a heating system in the house.
The whole system is quite complex and includes:
- boiler;
- cylinders;
- reduced gas burner;
- pipe fittings;
- gas pipeline
The choice of the boiler is carried out in the same way as in the case of the gas main.
But there are three important differences in choosing a boiler:
- replacement of the “native” burner with one that runs on reduced gas cylinders;
- select a low pressure unit to obtain high usage gas from cylinders;
- the highest efficiency (in the case of using the highway is not so important).
It is expedient to attach several cylinders to the boiler in order to “mess around” with them less often. Gas heating with cylinders in the country requires special security measures: it is important to install them in some kind of warm building, but not in the basement. If you install cylinders on the street, the fuel pressure will decrease, which will turn off the operation of the boiler burner. And if you carry out installation in the basement or near living rooms, then the dangers lie in the possible leakage of fuel and the consequences.
Rice. 2
Storage of gas cylinders in the country should be carried out in a separate room (Fig. 2), where there is ventilation system and a flat concrete floor.
Approximately, for 1 month of heating the cottage, you will need 2 cylinders for an area of 50 square meters. m., and for 100 sq. m - 3 cylinders.
Gas convectors in the country
Gas convectors have a number of advantages over other heating devices (boiler, wiring, pump).
Advantages:
- energy saving;
- no additional equipment;
- simple installation;
- does not need electricity;
- does not burn oxygen.
The equipment works automatically, adhering to the set heat temperature. This method heating requires only control and replacement of gas cylinders.
In the metal heat exchanger of the structure there is a chamber in which the reduced fuel is burned. Chimney combustion products are expelled to the outside. These devices are often equipped with fans, which contribute to the rapid heating of the premises. The gas convector (Fig. 3) can operate from a gas main or from cylinders running on reduced gas. The convector saves 50% of the energy carrier, unlike other similar heating systems.
Rice. 3
Convectors do an excellent job of heating a small area, each separate room involves the installation of a unit, which is not entirely economical in terms of installation. Among heaters for temporary housing, convectors remain leaders due to their safety, efficiency and low price.
Heating for summer cottages without gas is possible using solid fuel boilers, stoves, electricity, solar and wind energy, as well as geothermal heating. The choice is wide enough, so everyone has the opportunity to choose the best option for their capabilities and needs.
One of the best options for heating residential buildings, in the absence of the possibility of using main gas heating, is bottled gas heating, the nuances and subtleties of which we will discuss in this article.
You will find out what advantages and disadvantages gas-balloon heating has, whether it is safe to use it and how to install and connect such a system with your own hands.
Initially, we note that there are no bans on heating the house gas cylinders does not exist. However, when deciding on the implementation of such a method, it should be borne in mind that it will hit you hard enough in your pocket. For comparison, consider the cost of obtaining one kW of thermal energy using different heating methods:
- natural gas boiler - 33 kopecks / kWh:
- electric boiler with a heat accumulator - 0.9-1.3 rubles / kWh;
- pellet boiler - 1.2-1.3 rubles / kWh;
- liquefied gas boiler - 2.2-2.3 rubles / kW * h.
Even though heating costs may vary in different regions, which depends not only on the price and availability of fuel, but also on climatic conditions, the comparison shows that heating a house with liquefied gas is the most costly option.
In fact, it makes sense to use this heating method under the following conditions:
- a small area of a heated building - up to 100 m 2;
- the presence of effective thermal insulation of the house, the minimum level of heat loss.
Also, gas-balloon heating can be considered as a temporary measure, since in the future you will be able to convert the boiler to main gas.
1.1 What cylinders are needed for heating?
For arranging a heating system on liquefied gas the best option are cylinders with a volume of 50 liters. Such cylinders are filled with a mixture of propane from butane, which at high pressure turns into liquid state. It is also possible to use the following fuel combinations:
- SPBTL (technical mixture of propane and butane summer);
- SPBTZ (technical mixture of propane and butane for winter).
Cylinders must be especially carefully monitored in winter. Even in conditions of sub-zero temperatures, the gas in the cylinders will not freeze, but a situation of stopping the supply of fuel is possible. This is explained by the different boiling points of propane (-40) and butane (0 degrees).
As a result, at a conditional temperature of -10, a mixture of two gases boils in a cylinder, while propane is the first to evaporate. After the turn comes to butane, a significant decrease in its volatility is observed, leading to a pressure drop below that necessary for the operation of the level boiler, since the temperature of the cylinder does not correspond to the boiling point of the gas.
The only way out of this situation is to heat the cylinder to the evaporation temperature of butane (0 0 С). To do this, it is easiest to bring a sleeve in the form of a corrugated pipe into the box with cylinders from the room in which the heat exchanger is located, and complete the channel with a fan for forced filing warm air. The option of heating with a cylinder with pipes with thermal water according to the principle of a warm floor is also viable.
1.2 Advantages and disadvantages of the method
As already mentioned, the key disadvantage of balloon heating is its financial cost. At the same time, do not forget that you will not only have to pay for gas, but also spend money and time on refueling cylinders, which will be needed at least once a week.
However, this method also has its advantages, consider the main ones:
- greater efficiency and lower labor intensity of implementation in comparison with wood heating;
- the possibility in the future to convert the heat exchanger (boiler) to ordinary main gas;
- full autonomy of the system;
- the durability of the equipment used and its demand for secondary market– if necessary, you can easily sell the heat exchanger and cylinders, indemnifying most costs.
In general, it is simply not profitable to consider gas-balloon heating as the only way to heat housing in the long run. It is best to use it as a temporary measure with the subsequent re-equipment of the cat on the main gas.

2 How to connect the gas cylinder to the boiler and put the system into operation?
To equip a liquefied gas heating system, you will need to purchase the following set of equipment:
- 3-4 cylinders with a volume of 50 l;
- gas boiler, if one is already available, then you will need to buy special nozzles for liquefied gas;
- reducer and valves for cylinders.
The installation of gas cylinders should not be carried out in basements and basements, it is best to place them outside in a metal box with ventilation holes in the upper and lower parts. The tanks themselves must be placed in a horizontal position, vertical storage of filled cylinders is prohibited. The box must be installed on the north side of the house, in the most shaded area.
In order for the heat exchanger to work normally, it must be connected to a bundle of 4-5 working cylinders. Their installation and connection must be carried out taking into account the following rules:
- For the supply gas pipeline is used metal pipe with a wall thickness of 2 mm. In the place of its passage through the wall, the pipe is passed through a protective sleeve, exceeding its diameter by 2-3 cm. The cavity between the walls of the sleeve and the pipe is filled with mounting foam.
- The boiler can be connected to the gas pipeline using special flexible wiring, the reducer to the gas pipeline - using a rubber-fabric sleeve.
- All plug connections must be checked for gas leakage by soaping.
- Heating elements and heating cables must not be used to heat cylinders.
During the operation of the system, never fill the cylinder more than 80% of its volume - this is one of the key safety rules. The reason for the ban is the high expansion coefficient of the propane-butane mixture, which is 7%. No matter how strong the balloon may be, if it is filled to 94% at sub-zero temperatures and brought into a warm room, it will simply break.
Keep in mind that a mixture of propane and butane is denser and heavier than air - if gas leaks, you may not feel its presence in the room, as it settles on the floor area. That is why the box with containers should be ventilated and placed on the street.
2.1 Gas consumption
According to average statistics, the consumption of liquefied gas for heating a house is 15 liters per day for an area of 100 m 2. This value can vary greatly depending on the level of thermal insulation of a particular building and the ambient temperature.
A 50-liter cylinder holds 35-40 liters of gas, in terms of weight - 22 kg. So, to heat a building with an area of 70 m 2 for a week, about 2-3 cylinders will be required at an air temperature of -5 0, when it drops to -20 0, the consumption will increase to 5-6 cylinders per week.
Paradoxically, but modern world not everywhere there is a central gas pipeline. And people have to use wood or electricity to heat the premises. But there is another way - heating the house with gas cylinders. it good alternative solid fuel and electric heating in case of impossibility of connecting a private dwelling to the central gas pipeline.
Although heating with liquefied hydrocarbon gas propane or propane-butane is somewhat more expensive, in terms of its characteristics, such fuel practically does not differ from gas passing through the main. A gas stove for heating a house from a cylinder is often used in a private house or in a country house, in which the heated area does not exceed 100 sq.m. Consider the main features of balloon heating.
No direct bans or restrictive measures on heating system there are no gas cylinders in a private house. However, heating a home with liquefied gas from a cylinder is not always rational, since obtaining thermal energy in this way requires significant expenses.
Heating a house from a gas cylinder is beneficial only when:
- heated area of premises up to 100 m2;
- organization of good thermal insulation of the dwelling;
- minimizing heat loss.
The arrangement of heating a private house with gas is carried out with conventional 50-liter cylinders of propane or butane, which are compressed to a liquid state.
In summer and winter, different mixtures of combustible substances are used:
- SPBTL (flight combination);
- SPBTZ (winter mix).
In winter, the tanks must be constantly monitored, as interruptions in the supply of fuel are possible due to the difference in the boiling points of the mixture components (propane -40 ° C, butane 0 ° C). As a result, at a temperature of, for example, -10°C, the pressure in the vessel will drop below the level required for the normal functioning of the system. Then the cylinder will have to be heated to at least 0 ° C, so that the butane begins to evaporate.
Attention! Cylinders that are in a private house in conditions of negative temperatures are strictly forbidden to be heated with a heating element or heating cables.
Advantages and disadvantages of balloon heating
Heating a private house with bottled gas has both advantages over other heating options and disadvantages.
First, we give the undeniable advantages of heating with liquefied gas:
- high efficiency at significantly lower labor costs compared to solid fuel heating;
- the ability to convert a gas boiler from a conventional cylinder to main equipment;
- absolute autonomy and independence of the functioning of the balloon system;
- long service life of equipment (15-25 years);
- the presence of demand for cylinders in the secondary market - it is easy to sell containers if they are not needed.
In addition, cylinder heating allows you to heat water in a private house for domestic needs.
We also list the main disadvantages of such a heating system:
- cylinders need to be refilled regularly, approximately every 2-3 weeks, which is inconvenient and costly;
- with improper organization of the system, gas consumption increases significantly;
- the need to create suitable conditions for storing containers.
Thus, the organization of a heating system on cylinders can be very dangerous if some operating conditions of the equipment are not observed. Therefore, vessels can be stored only in a ventilated room, under which there is no basement. It is best to place the cylinders in a separate building.
How to connect the cylinder to the boiler?
To assemble a heating system on gas cylinders, the following equipment is required:
- gas boiler with a special burner for liquefied fuel;
- gas cylinders;
- reducers;
- ramp for connecting several containers;
- stop valves;
- pipes and hoses to connect the system.
As a heat generator, as a rule, a gas boiler with a water circuit is used. Moreover, a special model of the boiler is not required, you can simply replace the burner or nozzles. The power of the heating device is selected in accordance with the area of the room, but the efficiency of the device should be as high as possible. An excellent choice would be a gas condensing boiler.
Attention! Installation of cylinders in the basement or basement is prohibited. It is better to place them in a metal box with holes for ventilation.
Vessels can only be placed in a horizontal position. It is better to place a metal box on the north side of the site in a shaded place.
For the correct and efficient functioning of the boiler, it must be connected to 4-5 cylinders at the same time. To equip the gas pipeline, you will need a tube with a wall thickness of 2 mm or more. At the place of its installation, a sleeve is installed in the wall, the diameter of which is 20-30 mm larger than the cross section of the tube. The space between the sleeve and the pipe is filled with mounting foam.
Cylinders are connected to the system through a reducer, which converts the liquid back into a gaseous state. This can be done in two ways: one reducer for all vessels or one pressure regulator for each cylinder. The execution of the second option provides complete security, although it is more expensive.
In order to increase the interval for refilling containers, it is better to connect several vessels to the boiler at once through a ramp, which separates the cylinders into the main bundle and the spare. First, gas will come from the main group of tanks, and when the fuel runs out, the boiler will switch to a spare bundle. When the main link is updated, the heater will reconnect to the main group.
Attention! Observe the most important rule safety: it is forbidden to fill the cylinder with more than 80% of the volume, since the mixture of propane and butane has a high percentage expansion, and when the volume is filled by more than 85%, there is a high probability of an explosion of the vessel.
When assembling and installing equipment, pipes and hoses, all connections, connectors and fittings must be checked for gas leakage using ordinary soaping.
Can the cylinder be replaced with a gas tank?
Instead of conventional cylinders of 50 liters, it is allowed to use a more capacious steel container for storing liquefied gas - a gas tank. The volume of some of these tanks is often enough for the entire heating season.
However, heating a home with liquid gas cylinders is considered to be more convenient, since it is much easier to deliver fuel in more compact vessels. In addition, for the gas tank, you need to perform a large amount of work on digging the site, which will result in additional financial investments.
At the same time, the use of a gas tank eliminates the need to simultaneously connect several containers at once, since one cylinder cannot provide sufficient evaporation for the normal operation of the boiler.
Reducer for pressure control
The pressure in the cylinders is constantly changing, and its value depends on many factors:
- number of cylinders;
- composition and temperature of the mixture;
- liquefied gas residue;
- distance of a group of vessels to the boiler.
The reducer is used in order to convert and maintain a stable gas pressure in the vapor state.
It is necessary to select a gearbox for a heating system based on two main characteristics:
- performance;
- operating pressure.
The rationality of heating a private house with gas cylinders depends on the fuel consumption of the boiler. Therefore, the performance of the gearbox should not be less than the injectivity of the heater.
The value of the working pressure of the reducer is also selected in accordance with the characteristics of the boiler equipment. If the pressure that the reducer produces is too high, the operation of the heater will be disrupted. The pressure regulator is made for 20, 30, 37, 42, 50 and 60 mbar.
When connecting vessels using flexible hoses, a reducer with a “herringbone” fitting is required. And when connecting cylinders using combs and rigid pipes, fittings with threaded outlets will be needed.
In addition to the main purpose, devices with automation are equipped with protective elements that are triggered if the pressure rises to a critical level. Then the relief valve opens.
How much fuel is burned?
Heating a house, whose area is approximately 100m 2 with liquefied gas, can be done using a boiler with a capacity of 10 kW. In order to obtain 1 kW of thermal energy, it is necessary to consume 100-120 g / min of liquefied gas at 100% boiler load. If the cold period lasts up to 7 months, then the approximate estimated fuel consumption for the entire season will be about 5 tons.
But in reality, the volume of expenses will be almost 2 times less, thanks to automation, which switches the equipment to economy mode when the air temperature in the rooms has reached the set value or guided by the timer settings.
If we compare the costs of heating a summer house or a private house from the main gas pipeline, then heating with liquefied gas is about 5-6 times more expensive. But nevertheless, ultimately cheaper than heating from electricity.
If we take into account the prices of gas in a liquefied state, then heating a country house or a summer house with cylinders is not the worst alternative to electric and liquid fuel systems. Especially in cases where the region has problems with solid fuel or it is quite expensive.
Heating with liquefied gas is the most rational solution if there are plans to gasify the settlement in the near future, because then there is no need to purchase a boiler. In addition, there is an opportunity to practice handling gas boiler.
How to store gas cylinders in winter?
In the case when the cylinders are located outside the house, then in winter time at a negative temperature, the pressure of liquefied gas drops, and the boiler can simply turn off. In order to avoid this, the cylinders must be installed in a special cabinet that is insulated with non-combustible materials and equipped with good ventilation.
For this purpose, detached non-residential buildings with a minimum level of heating are also well suited. During the operation of the cylinders, the following safety precautions must be observed:
- it is forbidden to warm gas containers with open fire;
- a cellar or basement should not be located near the cylinders, due to the fact that during a leak the liquefied gas goes down, it has no smell and it can accumulate to an explosive concentration;
- installation of a gas leak sensor is highly recommended;
- storage of full cylinders is allowed at a distance of at least 10 meters from the living quarters;
- it is forbidden to store empty cylinders in the house;
- Once every 4 years, cylinders must be checked for tightness and integrity.
Thus, heating a house with gas cylinders is not a profitable way of heating. However, this is an excellent solution as a temporary measure until it is possible to connect to the central gas main.
