False fireplace from an old cabinet. Decorative fireplace with your own hands. Imitation of a plasterboard fireplace
Creating a decorative fireplace with your own hands is not very difficult, but you still need to have at least a little experience with carpentry tools. If you still decide to diversify your interior, then, before starting work, you will have to stock up on tools and materials. To create a fireplace you will need:
- old wardrobe;
- grinder or sandpaper;
- jigsaw or hacksaw;
- screwdriver or hand drill and a set of screwdrivers;
- plywood sheet;
- dye;
- putty;
- self-tapping screws;
- decorative elements;
- glue.
Work order
First of all, you need to draw a sketch of your future fireplace and make a drawing of it. It is not at all necessary to follow all the drawing rules; you can draw by hand. The most important thing is that all dimensions are indicated on the drawing, and you yourself understand what you want to get in the end.
When the sketch is ready, you can start dismantling the old cabinet. Depending on the size of the future product and the cabinet itself, the old furniture can either be disassembled into separate boards, from which the fireplace will subsequently be assembled, or simply remove the doors, leaving the cabinet body intact. In the latter case, the work will be much easier, since you do not have to make a fireplace frame.
Elements for the future fireplace should be sawn in accordance with the drawing. The most important thing here is to accurately mark all the elements. The concept of "by eye" in this case will not work, because during the assembly process, if the parts are sawn incorrectly, they will not come together into a single whole and they will have to be cut out again. By the way, if the fireplace is assembled from an old cabinet, then you will have to buy a chipboard sheet or donate another piece of old furniture.
After all the elements are sawn, you can begin to assemble the structure. As mentioned above, there are two options - to assemble the case yourself or use the case from an old cabinet.
Fireplace assembly
Let's consider both options. In the first case, it is necessary to saw the bars for fastening the rear wall and side ribs. When attaching the back wall to the bars from its sides, it is necessary to leave a gap so that the side walls of the fireplace are attached end-to-end. The walls are screwed to the bars with self-tapping screws. By the way, so that the hats of the self-tapping screws do not stick out, you should make sockets in the boards with a screwdriver or drill. Subsequently, with decorative finishing, these places will be puttied and the fasteners will not be visible.
When the case is ready, you can start finishing the front side of the structure. The front side will consist of five parts:
- front top beam;
- two side panels;
- bottom beam;
- furnaces.
First of all, you need to arrange a firebox. To do this, four bars are attached to the back wall, cut to the size of the future hole. The inner walls of the furnace hole are attached to these bars with self-tapping screws. Then the remaining parts of the front side are attached to the fireplace body. After the front of the structure is assembled, you can replace the housing cover. To make your fireplace look exactly like a real one, the lid can be made 5-10 centimeters longer and wider than the body. Or you can spend money and buy a real fireplace mantel in a hardware store.
If you are assembling a fireplace based on a body from an old cabinet, then only the front part will need to be decorated. The front part is made in the same way as in the first version. Despite the fact that the body of the old cabinet already has an upper part, you can also attach a board a little large sizes or a finished fireplace mantel.
Fireplace finish
The base of the fireplace is assembled, but so far it is only wooden structure. And it is the decorative finish that will make it a real work of art and decoration of the interior. Finishing a fireplace includes steps such as:
- preparation for finishing;
- painting;
- decorative design.
Before proceeding with decorative work, you need to prepare your product. If the structure was assembled from polished parts, they must be processed grinder. Otherwise, putty and paint will not adhere well. Putty must be allowed to dry for 2-3 hours, depending on the brand of material used, and then process the product with a grinder or sandpaper. After that, the most interesting part of the work begins - decorative trim.
Choose a decorative finish according to your taste preferences. In addition, the fireplace must match the style of the interior. There are many ways to decorate a decorative fireplace:
- pasting with a self-adhesive film with a pattern "under the stone" or "under the brick";
- gluing with special panels in the form of stone;
- decoration with decorative bricks;
- painting and finishing with decorative elements.
The easiest and most economical way to design a fireplace is to stick it with a self-adhesive film. By the way, you can use wallpaper and the corresponding pattern. Such a finish will be inexpensive, but the result will be impressive.
In hardware stores now huge selection panels, both plastic and based on fiberboard, with any texture. You can give your fireplace a brick, stone, or even wood look. The color scheme of the panels is presented in a huge assortment, so choosing exactly what you like will not be difficult.
Also on sale is an artificial (decorative) stone or brick. Working with such material will require financial, time and labor costs, but the result is worth it.
Freedom for creativity
The most interesting way is painting and finishing with decorative elements. The color of the paint is chosen depending on your interior and taste preferences. It is better to use water-based paint, acrylic or water-based, as it is odorless and dries quickly. In addition, such paint costs much less than enamel or oil, and it is much easier to work with it. By the way, with such paint, work can also be done in the cold season, when the product can be left to dry at home. The product must be covered with paint in two or three layers in order to completely paint over all the elements. If you wish, you can experiment with colors making smooth transitions from dark to light shades.
Since all parts of the fireplace are wooden, after painting it must be sanded. The fact is that when using water-based paint, the wood becomes rough, which can prevent further decoration of the product.
As decorative finishes you can use anything: gypsum stucco, foam decorative elements, fake diamond. And if you are fond of creativity, you can use special stencils and putty to create a relief with your own hands.
Most a budget option- This is the use of foam decorative elements. However, they must be used with extreme caution, since under the influence of chemicals contained in paints and varnishes and glue, the foam can simply dissolve.
It is not at all necessary to decorate all visible parts of your product with artificial stone. You can lay out only a small part of the fireplace with them, giving it originality. Artificial stone goes well with other types of decor.
Gypsum stucco is sold in hardware stores. It is quite expensive, but the result is worth it. These decorative elements will not dissolve under the influence of chemistry. Their disadvantage is that they are quite heavy, and therefore the glue should be chosen very high quality and quick-drying.
Furnace finish
The heart of any fireplace is the firebox. The firebox itself can be decorated in any style. If it is important for you that the fireplace looks like a real one, then fold decorative logs inside. You can also make them yourself or buy them in the store. And you can lay out the bottom of the firebox with sand, shells, pebbles, or even put a mirror.
Since in this case the fireplace is only a piece of furniture, there can be no talk of any real fire in the firebox. In order for the fireplace to still please the eye with a burning firebox, you can use led strip. The color of the tape can be any, but it is better to give preference to red, orange or yellow - the color of a burning fire. The LED strip is placed around the perimeter of the firebox. Before attaching the tape, it must be assembled into a chain.
And, of course, what is a fireplace without a grate? The grate can be purchased at the store, but it is much more interesting to make it yourself. In order to make a fireplace grate, you will need:
- copper, steel or aluminum wire with a diameter of 3-5 mm;
- thin copper wire with a diameter of 0.4-0.5 mm;
- soldering iron;
- pliers;
- round nose pliers;
- acrylic paint
- pencil;
- paper.
First you need to draw a sketch of the future fireplace grate. Sketches can be found on the Internet, or you can let your imagination run wild. If the fireplace grate is symmetrical, then it is enough to draw only half of it.
The next step is the most interesting. From a thick wire, you need to lay out all the details of the future lattice according to the drawing. The easiest way to work with aluminum wire, as it is soft and ductile. Its disadvantage is fragility. It is most difficult to manufacture parts from steel wire, as it has great rigidity. The most optimal metal for creating a fireplace grate is copper.
When all the main parts are laid out according to the sketch, it is necessary to fasten them. You can fix them with a soldering iron, or you can connect them with a thin copper wire. The last option looks original and interesting. If a soldering iron was used, then the soldering points must be cleaned and polished. The finished fireplace grate can be painted in the desired color and installed in the firebox.
Without a doubt, a beautifully designed fireplace portal fits perfectly into any living room interior. And it doesn’t matter that this is a snag, because not every owner of a private house, not to mention the residents of apartments, is able to build a real wood-burning hearth with a chimney. But anyone can make a false fireplace with their own hands, and how to do it right - read our material.
How to make an artificial fireplace
The first thing that comes to mind is to fold a fake portal and a brick firebox in order to achieve maximum similarity with the original. The idea is not too good, because such a building will cost a pretty penny and, in addition, will load the ceiling. Imitation brickwork can be implemented in other, cheaper ways, for example, to assemble wooden frame, sheathe and then tile under any artificial stone. But first things first.
The manufacture of the pseudo-hearth takes place in 2 stages - the assembly of the main structure and the lining. To make a portal, home craftsmen most often use the following materials:
- drywall sheets on a frame made of metal or wood;
- Chipboard laminated and plain;
- plywood, fiberboard;
- polyfoam, expanded polystyrene extruded.
Reference. A fake hearth for the New Year holidays can even be built from cardboard. How to make a similar fireplace from cardboard boxes, is told in .
Styrofoam raised fireplace with decor made of polyurethane elements
A fireplace portal assembled from drywall is the most popular design. It allows you to use a variety of types of cladding - wallpaper, polyurethane stucco, tile and decorative plaster. There are quite a few design options for such homemade products. It is much more difficult to paste over a false fireplace made of plywood or chipboard with tiles, but polymer materials afraid of mechanical damage (for example, from cat claws).
Design selection and drawing creation
If you decide to make an imitation of a classic English or other fireplace yourself, then first determine its place. The choice of one of the two existing designs also depends on this:
- wall-mounted;
- angular.
An artificial portal of the first type is placed near a free section of the wall, usually in the living room. Often it is placed in the middle of the room, and suspended plasma is fixed on top. If the mantelpiece rests on metal frame, then desktop TV models can be placed on it, as shown in the photo.
Reference. Sometimes, with the help of false foci, it is possible to solve 2 issues at once - to decorate the room and hide the old terrible-looking heating radiator, which is done in the photo:
Corner versions save space and fit well into various rooms - a hall, a bedroom, and even a nursery. Building such a layout is somewhat more difficult, but the result is impressive.
After choosing a place and design, determine the size of the portal and its niche, simulating a firebox. The width and height of the recess for the hearth should look proportional to the external dimensions of the product, which you assign arbitrarily. As an example, we suggest taking a drawing of a decorative fireplace with an arched vault, you can use it to make your own sketch.
The dimensions of the corner structure are also taken arbitrarily, except for situations where it is necessary to build an electric fireplace with flame imitation inside the portal. Then design the size of the firebox according to its dimensions, as is done below in the drawing. Also take care of bringing electricity to the future false fireplace and install an outlet.
How to make a fake drywall fireplace
To make a simple fireplace portal from GKL, you will need the following materials:
- galvanized UD and CD profiles or wooden beams;
- drywall sheets;
- plate for countertops;
- fasteners - dowel-nails and self-tapping screws 16 mm long.
Installation of steel profiles by marking
Advice. When installing an electric fireplace, it is better to sheathe the opening imitating the firebox with GKLO brand plasterboard (fire-resistant, painted pink).
Frame assembly from profiles
First, mark the wall and cut the materials into blanks. To do this, draw the contour of the future portal on the wall with a pencil, using the building level to determine the vertical and horizontal. Then work in accordance with the following step-by-step instructions:
- Cut the UD profiles to size and attach them to the wall with dowels, as shown in the photo. Install the racks and horizontal jumpers, fastening them together with self-tapping screws.
- Assemble the frame with the step from CD profiles and screw it to the floor. The arched vault of the hearth is formed from a rail, which must be cut and carefully bent, and then fixed to the frame.
- Sheathe the frame with GKL sheets on self-tapping screws, whose hats should be recessed into the drywall. For an electric fireplace, provide air openings on the sides and a hole for wiring.
- Install the tabletop and screw it to the frame.
Sheathing the frame with plasterboard sheets
Note. Inner lining arched vault is made of segments of drywall strips. Their ends should be hidden behind the front panel.
After assembly, it remains only to veneer your decorative fireplace, made by yourself. The most popular finishing option is imitation of natural stone and brick using tiles. If you do not want to buy it, then cut the foam bricks and glue the portal, and paint it with acrylic on top. Another common method is gluing with fake columns and polyurethane stucco. Detailed description installation of a drywall raised fireplace is shown in the video:
The order of assembly of the corner structure does not differ from the wall structure, only the frame is formed differently - the profiles are joined at an acute angle, as can be seen in the photo. Second moment - triangular shape top shelf, otherwise there is no difference.
Corner pseudo-fireplace frame
Hearth from an old chest of drawers
A false fireplace can also be made from old furniture made from chipboard. Let's consider an example of a sideboard with a built-in mirror, which will serve as an element of decor. The height of the structure is not a hindrance; after alteration, it will begin to resemble outdoor stove with a shelf for laying firewood, arranged at the bottom of the firebox.
We turn the old sideboard into a large pseudo-fireplace
Now about the order of work step by step:
- Remove doors and other fittings from the chest of drawers. If it is equipped with additional side sections, then simply cut them to the desired size.
- Form a fireplace opening from boards, chipboard sheets or plywood, screwing them to the sides of the sideboard with screws. Make the bottom shelf the same way.
- From above, pin a tabletop that protrudes 3-5 cm beyond the dimensions of the cabinet. If desired, make a pedestal for a false fireplace.
- Fill all cracks with wood filler, and after drying, level it with sandpaper. Then stick polyurethane molding on the body and paint.
Note. To finish the portal, you can use any materials that are planted on glue - plastic, polystyrene, various decorative panels.
Making an artificial fireplace
One of the common options is a fake candle fireplace with a mirror on the back wall of the opening. It is implemented simply: candles are placed in front of the glass, on the top shelf and on the pedestal, which are lit in holidays. The decoration can be supplemented with dummies of firewood and an iron grate. The latter is bent according to a drawn pattern of thick aluminum wire inserted into a PVC tube. At the end, the grille is painted with bronze paint.
A few words about how to make an imitation of a flame. We have already talked about an electric fireplace, but there are other ways:
- lay a red or yellow LED strip on the bottom of the firebox strewn with pebbles;
- install a safe alcohol burner in the opening (their decorative models are commercially available);
- use an electronic photo frame with an LCD display, where a GIF image of a flame is loaded, after which it is placed in a fireplace niche.
This is how the LED strip imitates fire
How to make an artificial eco-fireplace with a real flame from an alcohol burner is available on the video:
Conclusion
Let's omit the hackneyed phrases about the ease of making a false fireplace with our own hands, but instead let's give little advice. When you decide to throw away pieces of furniture, an old TV or a mirror, first think about whether you can make an imitation of a fireplace. The drywall system is a beautiful and reliable option, but at the same time expensive, and unnecessary things are a free resource. By putting your hands on them, you will get a pleasant decoration for the interior of an apartment or cottage.

Once upon a time there was a polished sideboard. Faithfully served his masters since the 70s of the last century - he kept sets and crystal. The hostess carefully erased dust from him, trying not to scratch him. But years passed, new furniture appeared in the house and the sideboard was no longer needed.
But it's not in our rules to throw something away! From the sideboard, we decided to make a fireplace!
They took the upper, mirror part, took out the glass and the glass shelf, put it on its side.
Screwed two bars ...
And two plywood top and bottom, reinforcing them with bars too, so that the fireplace has a "thickness"
They sawed out a "blower" in the door with a jigsaw - here, as in a real fireplace, firewood will be stored.
The fireplace also needs a mantelpiece and a pedestal on which it will stand. Here we adapted two headboards from the bed. It remains only to unscrew the legs.
In fact, the body of the fireplace is ready - it remains only to decorate
We bought polystyrene "stucco molding" - cornice, plinth. Bought plastic panels under the brick We bought a lighting in the fireplace - LED strip. It all took about a thousand rubles. Lightly sanded, scratched the polish, where necessary - puttied, painted with acrylic white paint. Glued "bricks", "stucco".

They did the electrical.
They poured shells, once brought from the sea, into the fireplace.

Oddly enough, but to have a comfortable home is a completely natural desire that is inherent in us. So it turns out that we are ready to spend our energy, money and time to turn our house or apartment into a place where it is pleasant to be and which we are not ashamed to show to others. One of the ways to decorate a room, make it cozy and stylish is a fireplace, which is also a home. How pleasant it is for the whole family to gather around the fire in the house in the evening, chat, drink tea and talk. But, there is one problem: for residents of private houses, such an opportunity is quite real, but it will not work to make a fireplace in an apartment with live fire. If you are a resident high-rise building, do not be discouraged, we have found a solution for you.
In this article we will look at how to make a decorative fireplace with your own hands. This is the so-called false fireplace, which is visually identical to the usual one, only now it can be used in an apartment. You will see not only a photo, but also instructions for making a fireplace with your own hands. It is an irreplaceable decorative element of your apartment.
The concept of a decorative fireplace and its necessity
Everyone knows that the combustion process is accompanied by side effects such as soot, debris and, most importantly, smoke. That is why an ordinary fireplace is not complete without an ash pan and a chimney, which solve all problems. In addition, this design has an impressive weight, which does not allow mounting such a fireplace in an apartment. The floor slab may not withstand. So it turns out that a decorative fireplace is an ideal alternative for those who, in spite of everything, want to have this element in their home. Even without special skills in construction, you can make it yourself.
Note! There are so-called bio-fireplaces that are used for apartments. As a raw material, alcohol or other biological fuel burns inside. In this case, no smoke, dirt, ash, etc. is formed. Only the process of combustion and heat generation takes place. However, the products are quite expensive. But, if you do not mind the money, you can use this alternative.
There are even electric fireplaces on sale that are easy and quick to install. But, not everyone can afford it, in addition, a decorative fireplace with their own hands will be much more original. You put your whole soul into it, so it will be valued differently. This is where your imagination can run wild. With such a decorative element, your neighbors will simply envy.
As you can see in the photo above, it is difficult to distinguish it from the real one. In addition, the design has a number of its advantages:
- Low cost, as you only need to spend money on materials.
- Simplicity of materials and their availability. Anyone can work with them, without professional skills.
- It is possible to change the decor at will at any time. Everything depends on you.
- The decoration uses at least inexpensive, but rather original and beautiful materials.
- You will receive a full-fledged fireplace, which, although not a replacement for the original, will become a worthy alternative.
- Your room will be transformed and become original.
In the end, we want to draw your attention to 3 types or groups of decorative fireplaces that you can create. The first group is authentic fireplaces, which are like two drops of water similar to real ones. It's about the size, design and design principle. Inside such a fireplace, there may even be a bio-fireplace burner or other fire imitation options. This option is expensive, but it looks perfect.
The second group is conditional fireplaces. They have a protruding portal from the wall. You can decorate such a design as you like, introducing the most extravagant and unusual ideas. The firebox is often filled with candles or firewood.
But the third group is symbolic fireplaces, which are made from the most different materials. They vaguely resemble a real hearth. Most of the time, they don't really look like him. It gets to the point that it is a simple wallpaper or an image with decor, just like Papa Carlo's.
What can you make a decorative false fireplace from?
You will be surprised, but there are more than enough materials for work. They are simple, affordable, inexpensive and beautiful. If everything is done correctly, then even the most cheap material will look noble. So, here is a list of materials that you can use for this purpose:
- drywall;
- classic bricks;
- plywood sheets;
- wood;
- Styrofoam;
- polyurethane;
- and even cardboard.
Note! If you have old furniture, then you can use it. After all, it is a pity to throw it away, but as a fireplace it will be transformed and will last a few more years.
Let's look at how to make decorative fireplaces with your own hands from some of the materials listed above.
Polyurethane fireplace
If you're looking for the easiest and fastest method to create a fireplace, then you've come to the right place. All you need is to purchase a polyurethane fireplace portal. It remains only to choose the style and size that will fit into the room, and the rest is a matter of technique. The body of such a fireplace is lightweight, and installation will not take much time. The photo shows the result you can get.
What is required for work?
That's all. Remained only step-by-step instruction to help you get the job done. In fact, you don’t need to build anything, since you have purchased a ready-made portal, which remains only to be fixed in place against the wall. Dustless work:
Exactly according to this principle, you can make a fireplace out of wood. Only now it should be noted that the wooden portals that are on sale are of great value. However, outwardly everything looks much nobler. Look at the photo, what effect can be achieved if you make an effort.
Plywood fireplace
A pretty good option if the room has some flaw or defect. Some are trying to transform an old radiator. With the help of a decorative plywood fireplace, you can realize this idea.
To begin with, the design should be done on paper. Everyone knows what it is. You need to do some calculations and create the drawing of the fireplace you want to make. Alternatively, you can already use finished project from the Internet. Here, for example, one of these options.
Dimensions, design, appearance - all this you can adjust for yourself. Next, a hammer, saw, screwdriver and tape measure are used. The first step is to create the frame of your fireplace. For this purpose, slats or bars made of wood are suitable.
You can connect elements to each other in any way. It is more reliable if these are self-tapping screws. Although nails are fine too. Then it remains to sheathe the frame with plywood. As regards the design and appearance products, then you can adjust it in the process. As an option to make a podium to the portal. Look at the photo, how the frame of the decorative fireplace has changed and has become similar to the finished version.
On the bar along the back wall, you can fix the firebox, which will imitate the hearth. But the surfaces that can be viewed from the outside can be decorated with self-adhesive. Here is one of the design options for a decorative plywood fireplace.
And here is the view of the seat. In order to hide the wall, you can paste inner part the same film.
The advantage of the design is that it is easy to remove, since at this stage it is not fixed to the surface. This allows access to the battery. And for best effect, you can install stones, pebbles or firewood on the radiator by installing a metal mesh on it.
And as a final nuance, you can make a fireplace grate. Then your design will practically not differ from a natural hearth. You can make it yourself or buy it in the store. Based on copper or aluminum wire. It is easy to bend and shape. In advance, you can draw a lattice on paper or print it out as a guide.
To the most decorative fireplace, you need to fix the wire in four places. And to hide the pipe that goes to the radiator, continue the podium of the fireplace, as shown in the photo.
This is such an original, beautiful, noble and almost natural miracle that can be obtained if you make some effort, ingenuity and allocate time. At home, you can hide any other defect or simply install such a false fireplace.
Note! Exactly according to the same principle, a drywall fireplace is made. Only here it is necessary to sheathe everything with this material. There is nothing complicated, the result is also excellent.
DIY decorative fireplace from furniture
This option can be called the most budgetary, because you already have almost all the materials for work. It remains only to transform it all into an artificial fireplace. Ideally, an old sideboard or wardrobe will do. In addition, stock up on such tools and materials:
- sheets of plywood;
- acrylic paint;
- putty;
- flight LED;
- stucco molding, decorative elements, gypsum finishing stone;
- screwdriver;
- grinding machine;
- jigsaw.
We begin to transform a sideboard or wardrobe into a false fireplace.
More effort can be made to complete the design of the fireplace and make it indistinguishable from the real thing. You can stick an LED strip around the perimeter of the firebox inside. Ideally yellow or red, as this is an imitation of a burning flame. At the bottom of the decorative firebox, you can pour shells, sand or pebbles.
That's all, as a result, you have a decorative fireplace that no one else has. It is no worse than a natural fireplace, only there is no fire. Other than that, it's just a perfect decorative element. And the realization that you made it with your own hands will warm you better than any fire.
Interior Design country house do it yourself
A fireplace can make even the dullest interior of a room much cozier and more comfortable. But such a pleasure is quite expensive, and it is not always possible to install something similar in an apartment. But there is a way out. You can make a fake fireplace with your own hands of absolutely any shape and size, and it is so simple that the process itself does not take much time and does not require special skills.
Can a fireplace be artificial
A false fireplace is a structure that looks like a real fireplace, but without a chimney. In some cases, this is just an element of the decor of the room, in other cases there is still an element of imitation of a living flame, for example, as in electrical installations.
A false fireplace can be a great decor in a room of any size.
The main advantages of this design can be considered absolute safety (unless, of course, you decide to install a lot of candles in the portal) and low cost compared to a real fireplace. In addition, there are other advantages of false fireplaces:
- allowed for installation even in an apartment, while it is forbidden to mount a real fireplace in an apartment building;
- with it, you can mask the defects and shortcomings of the room, for example, hide a battery or a pipe, and it is also advantageous to use the so-called dead zones, for example, a corner;
- top and side you can equip shelves for decor and storage of various small things;
- emphasize the stylistic direction of the room design, for example, when choosing a baroque or other classical style.
A false fireplace will be appropriate even in a children's room
Types of structures
There are several types of false fireplaces that you can install in your own apartment:
There is another classification, which is based on the installation site of such a design:
- suspension;
- wall-mounted;
- angular;
- built-in;
- island.
What can be made
If you are a fan of making crafts, then you can use absolutely any building material to make a decorative fireplace, including:
- Brick. It allows you to create an artificial hearth as close as possible to the present. For installation, you can choose a decorative or facing brick. The disadvantages of this design are a significant mass, which means that it can be mounted only after checking the overlap for the ability to withstand such a weight. However, there are also advantages, in addition to naturalness. Such a false fireplace can not be faced with anything.
Brick false fireplace is as similar as possible to the real one
- Plates with laminated coating. Before using this material, it is imperative to draw up a drawing, on which it is necessary to indicate all the dimensions of the future structure. The drawing is needed in order to cut the material. Similar properties are also chipboard sheets, however, such a design requires further finishing, for example, with foam "bricks".
A fireplace made of laminated sheets looks very concise
- Polyurethane. As a rule, this material is used to finish an already finished structure. However, special pieces such as mouldings, architraves and half-columns can be glued directly to the wall and decorated accordingly. Using decor and trying various techniques with highlighting, it can be turned into an unusual piece of furniture. There is one more advantage - if desired, such a fireplace can be repainted in any color. This allows you to update the interior with minimum investment in a short time.
Polyurethane fireplace can be simply glued to the wall
- Drywall. This material is most popular for the manufacture of false fireplaces. He has undoubted advantages- ease of assembly and combination with others finishing materials. If desired, the plasterboard construction can be decorated in any style, which means it is suitable for any interior. In addition, you can build a structure of any complexity. An artificial hearth can be deep, square or round portal, with columns or minimalistic. You can change the lining without disassembling the entire structure, which is very convenient.
Most often, a false fireplace is made of drywall.
- Wood. Using this material, you can make a false fireplace, which will be part of the furniture set, which means it will be made in the same style as the entire design of the room.
Wooden false fireplace can be artificially aged
In addition to those listed, for the manufacture of a false fireplace, you can also use improvised materials, for example, cardboard boxes or old furniture.
Dimensional drawings
The dimensions of the structure largely depend directly on the area of \u200b\u200bthe room where it will be installed. For example, a corner unit for a small room might be 330 mm deep and 1,300 mm long.
A small room can also be decorated with a wall-mounted false fireplace. At the same time, the dimensions of the structure are recommended to be slightly reduced, for example, to make a portal with parameters of 1,360 * 500 * 1,050 mm.
In a small room, you can install a wall or hanging fireplace
When installing a false fireplace in a medium-sized room, more opportunities appear:
- you can make a more massive structure by decorating it with additional decorative elements, for example, columns and stucco;
- it is allowed to use not only shelves, but also countertops, but only if the partition is able to withstand such a design;
- you can place an artificial fireplace in the center of the room, and not just near the wall.
The drawing should indicate the dimensions of each part.
When decorating a room classical style a false fireplace can be massive with appropriate decorations. For example, the dimensions of the bottom can be 1500mm, the top 1490mm and the depth 345mm.
If you want an artificial fireplace to look attractive, expensive, and status, then it is recommended to use artificial and natural stone, forged items, precious wood.
In a large room, a false fireplace can be installed in the center of the room
When making a copy of the fireplace for a large living room, you can follow the following rules:
- island location, thanks to which you can create a very massive and unusual design that will perform several functions at once;
