How to cover the inner corner of the roof with corrugated board. How to properly cover the roof with corrugated board: we cut the roof with corrugated board with our own hands. What is a roof structure
For a comfortable stay in the house, it is important to make a high-quality and reliable roof with a good coating. To date, one of the best roofing is corrugated board. It reliably protects the roof from leaks, collapses, provides tightness in the under-roof space. And the most important thing is that it is environmentally friendly. However important role plays the correctness of the conduct installation work. Only in this case, the corrugated roofing will serve you for many years. This article will provide detailed instructions how to cover the roof with corrugated board with your own hands, as well as video and photo materials.
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, corrugated board has a lot of advantages, which makes it an indispensable roofing material. Also noteworthy are other positive sides this material:
- The profiled structure of the sheet has a high bearing capacity.
- The lightness of the material greatly simplifies the work with it.
- After laying the sheets on the roof, no joints are formed. This ensures the tightness of the coating.
- Due to the special polymer coating, the material does not corrode, and as a result, its service life increases.
Note! Laying corrugated board on the roof should not cause any special problems, and at first glance, everything may seem extremely simple. However, during installation work, no flaws and inaccuracies should be allowed.
For the transportation of corrugated board, specialized transport is required. Sheets must only be laid horizontally. It is also recommended to tighten them with slings, after laying them on a hard and even surface. There are also special requirements for the driver. It is necessary to drive the car without sudden braking and turns. Failure to do so may result in damage to the material on the way to its destination.
In addition, it is important to ensure high-quality storage of corrugated board. The base must also be level and firm. If it's time to lift the sheets to the roof, then you need to do this with the help of a log. Their length should correspond to the height of the roof from the ground. You can lift several sheets at once.
Note! If the weather is windy, then it is impossible to lift the sheets onto the roof.
Today, such types of corrugated boards are known:
- Mark C. The canvas has a sinusoidal or trapezoidal shape. If you decide to do decorative trim roofs, then this option is just the way.
- RS brand. It is used both for laying on a roof, and on walls.
- Mark N. This model is equipped with additional stiffening ribs.
It is very important to know what slope angle is allowed for a particular product. Each manufacturer develops individual instructions. Therefore, when buying, you should ask for instructions, which is called the so-called "Installation of the roof from corrugated board instructions." Based on this, it is important to consider the future slope of the roof. Knowing the slope will help you calculate how much overlap each sheet should have. Below are some calculation options:
- A slope of less than 15° will provide an overlap of 200 mm or more.
- A slope of 15 to 30 ° will provide 150–200 mm and no more.
- If the slope is less than 12 ° or the roof is flat, then each seam and joint should be carefully sealed. Otherwise, the roof will not cope with its functional responsibilities.
Calculation
Before buying material, it is important to calculate the number of sheets. This requires information regarding the width and length of the slope, as well as what brand of corrugated board will be used. To calculate, you can use a special program or draw a roof on a reduced scale. This will help you practically accurate calculations. It should not be forgotten that the sheets are overlapped. Depending on the angle of the slope and the grade of the profiled sheet, the overlap will differ. So you will find out how much the length and width of the sheet will be “eaten up”. Moreover, do not forget to add an overhang to the cornice, which can be up to 30 cm.
Note! It is necessary to purchase all additional elements in advance, for example, valleys and slats. They will be fixed in places where the slope has a certain kink, from the end, on the ridge and in other similar places.
Each sheet is attached to the crate with self-tapping screws. This is the only way to ensure reliable coverage. Fasteners are subject to special requirements. So, they must be made of galvanized steel. In this case, each self-tapping screw must have a special gasket made of elastomer or neopreon rubber. This rubber will provide a hermetic docking of the self-tapping screw with the profiled sheet. Due to this, moisture will not penetrate the wooden elements of the roof, which means that rotting of the supporting structure will be prevented.
The following technical parameters are presented for self-tapping screws:
- Size 4.8x32mm, 4.8x60mm and 4.8x80mm.
- The presence on the cap of a protective and decorative coating in the form of powder paint and a layer thickness of 50 microns.
- The surface is treated with electrolytic galvanization with a thickness of 12 microns.
- The presence of a protective gasket made of elastomer for profiled sheets and for valleys made of aluminum sheet.
- Self-tapping screws should contain stabilizers that do not allow the negative effects of ultraviolet rays.
Note! When buying coating sheets, purchase one color and self-tapping screws. This will give the aesthetics of the entire roof.
It should also be mentioned about special seals, which are made of foamed polyethylene and polyurethane foam. The sealant is placed between the sheet and the crate. It is believed that the seal strip with rectangular section is universal. But it will be much more effective to use those seals that repeat the shape of the profiled sheet.
The presence of a seal reduces the noise of a metal roof, increases the quality of the thermal insulation of the cake and increases the service life. A special adhesive is applied to the strips of the seal on both sides, so its installation is greatly simplified. It is very important that the sealant be perforated for ventilation in the under-roof space.
Note! The presence of a seal eliminates the large gaps resulting from the fit to the roof structure of the sheet. Birds, insects and cold air often get into these gaps. The special properties of the sealant material make it bioresistant and moisture resistant.
Immediately before the installation of profiled sheets, hydro and vapor barrier is laid. To make a vapor barrier, you can purchase a special film or roofing material, in extreme cases. The vapor barrier is attached to the crate. It is recommended to lay it from the lower edge of the roof. Due to this, each subsequent layer will be lower and moisture will not penetrate to the wood.
Note! If the brand of corrugated board S-8, S-10 or S-20 up to 0.5 mm thick is used, then the crate must be continuous. In all other cases, the step of the crate is selected individually from the characteristics of the roof.
Separately, it is worth mentioning about the layer of insulation, which will save 25% of heat. Those roofs on which corrugated board is mounted are advised to use matte insulation. The result is a roofing cake:
- A layer of vapor barrier film.
- Insulation.
- The final waterproofing layer.
When making this “pie”, a “cold triangle” should be organized. Its presence will ensure a good passage of warm and cold air through the cracks in the cornice and ridge. So, natural ventilation will be created, which will prevent the formation of condensate.
The laid waterproofing layer will retain all the properties of the insulation. Otherwise, with strong moisture on the roof, an ice crust, dampness will form and, as a result, the process of wood decay is inevitable. For this reason, the material for each layer of the cake must be chosen carefully. It must be of high quality.
In order for all the work to go smoothly and without failures, take care of the availability of the necessary tools in advance:
- rope;
- roulette;
- screwdriver;
- a hammer;
- metal scissors;
- construction gun with sealant;
- marker or pencils;
- construction stapler;
- drill.
Note! Profiled sheets are cut cold, as the polymer coating is not resistant to high temperatures. It is better to use scissors for metal or a jigsaw. At the same time, treat each cut with an anti-corrosion primer. This will increase the life of the coating.
Laying scheme
The sheets are overlapped on the lower edge of the roof, and the screws are twisted into the bend of the wave. Compliance with a specific installation scheme will create a reliable roof. First of all, under the valley plank at the level of the crate, a dense flooring is made from the groove at a distance of 60 cm from both sides. The lower boards of the valley are mounted with an overlap of 20 cm. The bottom plank is fixed from the edges with nails, and the final fastening is carried out together with the roof. If the slope is gentle, then sealing mastics should be used here.
Under the ridge, the bottom bar is wound up by 25 cm. A profiled or universal seal should be laid between the profiled sheet and it. As for the installation of end boards, it is better to fix them above the crate, then it will be possible to fix the end plate. This structure will be called the wind corner. After that, a cornice strip and filing with corrugated board are installed. It is mounted below the profiled sheet.
Installation of sheets will depend entirely on the type of roof. For example, if the slope is gentle, then a longitudinal seal is used and overlapped by one wave. If the slope is a steep compactor, it is not necessary to use.
Note! If you have a hip roof, then the installation begins with the hip itself. A cord is stretched along the cornice and each subsequent sheet is aligned along it. It is unacceptable to do this at the end of the ramp.
There are two methods for laying sheets of corrugated board on the roof:
- Vertical direction. In this case, the first sheet with temporary fastening is laid below. Similarly, the sheet is mounted on the second row. Next, two sheets are stacked side by side, a square of 4 sheets is obtained. More sheets are stacked to it and so on. This method is in particular demand if the roof is equipped with a drainage groove.
- Another method of stacking sheets is to make a block of 3 sheets. First of all, 2 sheets are laid on the first row. Between themselves, they are securely fixed, and the 3rd sheet of the 2nd row is joined last. This block can be fixed while aligning with the eaves.
Note! No matter which sheeting method you choose, it is important to pay attention to Special attention each docking point. It is on this that the reliability and quality of the roofing will depend.
For each sheet of corrugated board, 7-8 self-tapping screws are required. They need to be twisted into the bottom wave. As mentioned above, the material is overlapped both vertically and horizontally. The overlap will depend on the angle of the slope. From what place should the sheets be laid? If the roof slope has a rectangular shape, then it is possible from any end along the cornice line. If the shape is a trapezoid and a triangle, then first of all it is important to think over the laying scheme. However, the first sheet is mounted in the center, and then the sheets are stacked symmetrically on both sides.
If a drainage system is planned, then the corrugated board is mounted along the eaves with an overhang of 60 cm. If it does not exist, then the overhang is carried out according to the material grade:
- NS-20 - up to 10 cm.
- S-44 and NS-35 - up to 30 cm.
So, align the first sheet along the cornice and the end of the roof. After that, it is fixed with a self-tapping screw at the top. Each next sheet is fastened along the longitudinal side of the sheet. It is pre-aligned with the eaves, and then fastened with the crate. According to this scheme, row after row is assembled.
The installation of the material is carried out so that a frontal overhang 7 cm wide is formed. At the eaves, the sheet is fixed at a distance of 30–40 cm, and the remaining rows of self-tapping screws can be staggered in 1 m increments. . On a longitudinal overlap, fasteners are located at the top of the profile at a distance of 300 to 500 mm.
On the next step installation of the ridge and the end plate. According to the standard, the end plate is 2 m long. If the length is not enough, then it overlaps. The fastening of the strap is carried out from the roof overhang to the ridge.
Note! When mounting the end strip, make sure that it overlaps at least one wave of the sheet. Self-tapping screws are twisted in steps of 1 m to the profiled sheet.
After that, it remains to make the last node of the roof - the ridge. Only smooth ridge elements should be used here. A number of experts recommend laying a special ventilated seal between them. If the sheets are corrugated, then a ridge seal is used.
At the end of the roofing work, a junction bar is installed with profiled sheets. They are an element with a length of 2 m. They overlap up to 20 cm. The fasteners are made with self-tapping screws from the side of the roofing sheets. Mounting pitch 40 cm.
Note! When organizing the adjoining of the roof to the wall, a special sealant should be used. It is laid between the joint strip and the upper edge of the corrugated board.
To prevent snow and rain from getting into the cracks, a longitudinal seal is also laid to the side junction. If the roof is steep, then such a seal is not needed.
In conclusion, let's summarize:
- It is very important to pay attention to the transportation of roofing material.
- The sharp edges of the sheets can cut your hands, so you need to work with protective gloves.
- It is necessary for three people to lift the sheets to the roof. It uses two guides.
- The installer must wear shoes with soft soles so as not to scratch the surface of the sheets.
- If the surface is accidentally scratched, then these places must be treated with paint for polymer coatings.
- You can step on the sheets only in places of the crate.
So, we are convinced that corrugated board is an excellent material for roofing. However, it is important to remember that it can serve for a long time and with high quality only if the installation and calculation technology is observed. If you have your own experience in this construction industry, then write comments at the end of this article. It will be equally useful to pay attention to the photos below. On them you can consider the intricacies of performing work on overlapping the roof with profiled sheets.

Below is a series of photographs and tables from which you can get the details of installing corrugated roofing:
If your home needs a roof that has an attractive and sophisticated look at a relatively low cost, a corrugated roof — cold rolled galvanized steel sheet with color coating polymer materials- that's what you need.
Advantages of profiled steel sheet:
- excellent operational qualities: resistance to atmospheric factors, solar radiation, mechanical strength, resistance to corrosion,
- short specific gravity(from 5.5 to 9.5 kg / m 2), therefore, low load on the truss systems and the crate,
- roofing material can be selected according to the texture and color for the design of the building,
- relatively low price with high aesthetic qualities.
What kind of corrugated board is suitable for the roof
Any of the brands of corrugated board (universal, load-bearing or wall) is suitable for roofing, but laying thin wall material will require an almost continuous crate. For a regular crate with a step of 65-100 cm, it is preferable to use a more durable and rigid profiled sheet. The most commonly used material with such indicators:
- brand H or HC (carrying and universal),
- profiled sheet thickness from 0.5 to 0.7 mm (strong and light at the same time),
- corrugation height 20-75 mm (provides the possibility of elastic deformation of the roof),
- the presence of a capillary drainage groove,
- coating color that matches the existing or planned exterior of the house.
The price of corrugated board depends on several indicators of the material.
What you need to cover the roof with corrugated board with your own hands
Single pitched or double pitched roof country house, a summer kitchen or a garage, it will not be difficult to cover it yourself with one or two assistants and some skills in working with a screwdriver and a jigsaw. A broken gable roof of a house with an attic will also be able to independent work. Help with this video.
If the roof frame is of a more complex configuration, experienced specialists should be invited to cover the roof with corrugated board. The price of work will depend on the complexity of the roof and the area of the slopes.
How much material is needed
Calculate the amount of material for a lean-to or gable roof, knowing the size of the slopes, it will not be difficult. If the length of the slope is 12 m or less, you need to divide the width of the slope by the width of the material, the resulting number of sheets should be increased by 15%.
For more complex roofs, you can calculate the corrugated roofing online using special programs. Programs allow not only to determine the amount of material as accurately as possible, but also calculate the roof slope, overlap dimensions, determine the best option location and fastening of the profiled sheet.
Tools and fasteners for work
To work, you will need measuring and cutting tools, fixing materials:
Features of laying a roof from a profiled sheet
It is best to do the work with four people, it will turn out much faster. Two people can also cope, but it is very difficult to work with long sheets of corrugated board alone.
- The minimum angle of the roof slope is 10 o. With a smaller slope angle, water can get under the material.
- The standard length of the profiled sheet is 12 m. If the length of the slope is less or more, the sheets will have to be cut.
- To protect the corrugated board from corrosion, waterproofing and vapor barrier should be made along the crate.
Installation of the crate under the profiled sheets
An important stage in the installation of corrugated roofing is the organization of hydro and vapor barrier to protect the metal from corrosion when water vapor enters.
They do this in two ways:
- laying a vapor barrier on the rafters under the crate and waterproofing (roofing material) on top of the crate under the corrugated board;
- organization of a ventilated roof, creating a ventilated space between the waterproofing layer and the roofing material. For this, along rafter legs install false rafters from bars on waterproofing, they make a crate, you get a puff cake: rafters, waterproofing, false rafters, crate, profiled sheet.
Important! All elements of the crate must be impregnated on all sides with an antiseptic composition for wood. This will extend the life of the roof.
Lathing boards are laid in increments of 0.5-1.0 m, attaching them with nails or self-tapping screws to the rafters. The thicker and more durable corrugated board is used, the greater the distance between the boards of the crate. So, for example, for a profiled sheet of brand CH35, the crate step is 0.5-0.6 m, for CH44 - 0.65-0.75 m. The distance between the boards should not be more than 1 m.
Having made the crate, you need to check the diagonals of the slope and align the slope along the verticals, horizontals, diagonals. This will greatly facilitate the work of laying corrugated board on the crate.
The procedure for laying corrugated board with your own hands
- Profiled sheets are laid, from bottom to top, starting along the slope from the end of the building, from left to right or right to left - it all depends on which side of the sheet the manufacturer made the capillary groove. When laying the material, the groove must be closed by the wave of the next sheet.
- The size of the overlap of profiled sheets horizontally and vertically depends on the angle of the roof slope. At small values of the angle of inclination of the slope, the sheets are laid with an overlap in two waves vertically, at high values - in one or half a wave.
- The horizontal overlap of the slope is at least 10 cm. The first row is laid with an overhang of 30-50 cm above the overhang (the distance depends on the design of the drainage system). The joints between the profiled sheets are sealed with a special tape. The sheet of the second row is laid with an offset along the end by half the width.
If 2 or more people, lifting sheets is simple. They are laid on a frame of 5-6 bars in packs of 5-10 pieces and are pulled up with a rope along inclined boards attached to the crate.
On the crate so that the sheets do not roll down, one or two bars are nailed from below and a pack of coating sheets is placed. It is much more convenient to work this way than to serve one at a time, although this method is also used.
How to fix corrugated board on the roof correctly
Sheets are attached to the crate with self-tapping screws with washers and sealing gaskets. Their number is no more than 6-10 pieces per 1 sq.m. flooring. On the slope, the screws are screwed into the lower, and on the ridge - into the upper waves of the sheet.
If the material is thin, the screws are simply screwed in with a screwdriver, they easily pass through without damaging the coating. On thick steel sheets in the places where they are attached to the crate, it is advisable to pre-mark and drill holes for self-tapping screws with a drill.
Important! It is necessary to precisely align and correctly install the very first sheet, the quality of all work will depend on it.
The first sheet is first fixed in the middle with one screw and the overhang from the cornice and the vertical position of the crate are carefully aligned. After that, it is fixed with a second screw.
The material is attached to the upper and lower boards of the crate by screwing self-tapping screws into each deflection of the wave, into the central boards through the deflection.
The second highest row is placed with the sheets shifted to the right or left by half the width. They cut the profiled sheet with an electric saw, a hacksaw for metal or an electric jigsaw with a metal file. They do it on the ground.
Attention! It is impossible to cut a profiled sheet with a grinder. This will destroy the polymer coating. For cutting, use scissors for metal, and paint over the cuts with paint.
Horizontal joints are also sealed with tape. Self-tapping screws on the overlap are screwed into each recess of the wave. The rubber sealing washer should protrude 1-2 mm around the perimeter of the screw head, this indicates that it is not pinched or loose.
Installation of the skate on the corrugated board
Ridge additional elements for corrugated roofing are produced
- simple in the form of a sheet bent at an angle with a shelf width of up to 30 cm,
- with a semi-circular edge
- with a U-shaped rib and shelves of the same dimensions.
To install a ridge on a corrugated roof, the last row of sheets should be aligned in the upper part along the end and laid in the same horizontal plane. The installation order is as follows:
- on the edge of the last row of sheets, a tape or a strip of ridge seal is laid,
- bars are fixed parallel to the axis of the ridge,
- ridge elements are screwed to the bars with screws into the upper corrugation after 20-30 cm, starting from the side where the wind most often blows,
AT last years for roofing, along with expensive materials, profiled flooring, or corrugated board, is increasingly being used, which is not only attractive and reliable, but also allows you to cover the roof yourself, without having special knowledge and skills for this. The professional flooring is issued with polymer coated different colors, its cost is much lower than other analogues, which, however, does not affect the quality.
In our article we will tell you how you can cover with corrugated board, taking into account all the features of this process.
Transportation of corrugated board
This roofing material, despite its strength and durability, needs proper and careful transportation. If the profiled sheet is loaded incorrectly, it will deform during transportation, and this will lead to the fact that the cost of the work will increase.
It is possible to qualitatively block the roof with the help of corrugated board, taking a material with a thickness of half a millimeter. This will keep all the necessary performance characteristics, roofing will reliably protect the house from precipitation, strong wind, heat loss.
In order to organize the correct transportation of corrugated board, use simple tips:
- material should be loaded only on a solid and solid base; ordinary wooden logs, which will be longer than the sheets themselves;
- the cargo during transportation must be strengthened with slings so that there is no friction of the sheets during transportation;
- the recommended speed of transport should be up to eighty kilometers per hour.
Subject to the above conditions, the corrugated board will be delivered undamaged. Care must also be taken when unloading. It is desirable that the sheet be carried by two people; it is strictly forbidden to drag it or bend it.
When covering, it is important to properly lift it up. It also has its own technology, which is as follows:
- the material must not be lifted in windy weather to avoid damage;
- logs stretch from the roof to the ground, along which the sheets rise up. It is desirable that this work be performed by three people;
- lifting should be carried out exclusively on one sheet.
Materials and tools for laying corrugated board
Covering is quite simple, for this there is no need to purchase expensive tools, a lot of additional materials. We will only need metal scissors that can cut a sheet up to 0.6 mm thick, we will also need a hacksaw with fine teeth, a jigsaw, you can also use electric scissors.
But abrasive wheels and grinders are strictly prohibited, they can cause severe damage to the metal.
Features of laying corrugated roofing
The technology of corrugated board coating has some features, which we will now list:
- The roof rafters are covered with a waterproofing membrane and heat insulators to prevent heat loss. Especially it concerns residential attics where such losses can be significant.
- On the inside of the house, it is necessary to hem a layer of vapor barrier and tightly seal all its joints. In general, during such work, it is necessary to ensure that there are no gaps, gaps, defects. If found, they should be carefully eliminated.
- When covering with corrugated board, it is very important to create a "cold triangle", that is, to ensure the movement of cold and warm air flows.
- When constructing a roof, it is important to remember the need to create through slots for air to escape, which are made in the eaves.
It is laid only on a layer of waterproofing. It is made from wooden beam with sizes fifty to fifty or from a board 32x100, the whole tree must be treated with antiseptics.
Important! A counter-lattice of timber is nailed to the rafters, on top of which the boards are laid. Where important nodes pass, that is, valleys, chimneys, fences, a continuous crate should be made in increments of fifty centimeters.
Choose the angle of inclination
To cover the roof with corrugated board, it is necessary to accurately determine the angle of inclination in advance, it depends on what the overlap and fastening of the material will be:
- An overlap of two hundred millimeters is recommended at an angle of up to fourteen degrees.
- If the angle is up to thirty degrees, then horizontal and vertical overlaps are recommended to be processed with a waterproof silicone sealant. At angles of more than thirty degrees, the overlap is preferably within one hundred and seventy degrees.
Scheme for selecting the angle of inclination for rafters.
The type of crate also depends on the angle and height of the corrugation:
- at angles up to fifteen degrees, you can use C21 corrugated board, the overlap will go in two waves, and the crate will be solid;
- with the same angle and C35 corrugated board, the crate pitch is three hundred millimeters, the overlap goes into one corrugation;
- sometimes, with corrugated board C44 and more, the step of the crate reaches five hundred millimeters. In general, in this case, the step can be up to 650 millimeters.
Roof covering
The process is quite easy, now we will talk about the main stages of this work.
First, you should purchase soft shoes so as not to damage the sheets of corrugated board. It is necessary to try to step only on the deflections of the wave at the points of attachment to the crate. You will also need protective gloves for your hands, which will protect them from cuts during work.
After preparatory work we are starting to install the battens and heat and waterproof the roof. For this we use special self-tapping screws with rubber seals that will not damage the material.
The chips formed when tightening the screws should be removed immediately - this way it will begin to rust quickly, and this will lead to damage to the flooring. Self-tapping screws are screwed only into the wave.
The norm when fastening corrugated board is the use of six to eight fasteners per one square meter material. Follow the rules for installing a profile sheet for roofs:
- when laying adjacent sheets, it is necessary to ensure the displacement of fasteners for joined elements (waves) by five millimeters;
- fastening is carried out from the side of the wind slats in each individual crate;
- the fastening step should not be more than five hundred millimeters, so that the roof is strong and reliable;
- sheets must be attached to the upper and lower boards of the crate in each trapezoid (wave).
Nails cannot be used during installation, just like aluminum rivets, they cannot ensure the stability of the roof under strong wind loads. It is not recommended to use gas or electric welding when working with corrugated board.
When covering the roof with corrugated board, you need to know some of the subtleties of the work. Laying should be carried out parallel to the cornice, while the overhang is approximately forty millimeters. In the event that the sheet is shorter than the slope, it can be laid along the length of the roof in rows.
Before laying the roof sheathing is carefully treated with special means(to protect the tree from mold, insects), after that it is necessary to perform work on hydro-thermal insulation.
The sheets are only overlapped here, all remaining gaps are filled with bituminous sealants. When fastening to the crate, it is necessary to use self-tapping screws with rubber seals, while the pitch of the crate depends on the angle of the roof slope in the region of twenty to forty millimeters. As the angle increases, the distance between the individual rails should also increase.
An important condition is the presence of a ventilated space between the stacked profiled sheet and the waterproofing layer of the roof. In addition, experts recommend that after cutting the sheet, treat the sections with a primer.
That's all the secrets of installing corrugated board. Such work can be done in a couple of days by two people who do not have special knowledge. Why not try it for you too!
Decking is universal construction material which is used for a variety of purposes. Increasingly, you can see elegant and very attractive roofs covered with bright sheets of corrugated board. Mostly monochromatic coatings are found, but there are also geometric patterns in the form of stripes and rectangles, which give the roofs of the house a special style and personality.
How to cover the roof with corrugated board and how to properly care for the corrugated board? Once you are familiar with the process, you will be able to work with such a coating yourself.
Advantages of laying corrugated board on the roof of the house
Before considering the features for the roof of a building, let's define the advantages of such a material. Before starting work, many are wondering how to cover the roof with corrugated board in such a way as not to involve expensive construction teams. This is precisely one of the most important advantages of this coating - we make such a roof ourselves.
Two or three people will be enough, even if they do not have special knowledge. Installation of the roof is very simple, its rules are accessible even to beginners. at home or you can equip it from scratch in a couple of days.
The question of how to make a corrugated roof strong and reliable disappears immediately if you study the characteristics of this material. The profiled sheet is made from cold-rolled metal sheet, which is often coated on top with a polymer.
The thickness of the material makes it resistant to wind loads, and the paint layer prevents precipitation and corrosion from damaging the coating. So the installation in this case will turn out to be reliable.
The cost of the material is affordable, as well as the amount of all additional materials for the roof of the house.
Thus, the questions of how and how reliable it is are solved very simply.
Features of self-laying corrugated board
How to properly cover the roof with corrugated board and close the interfloor ceilings? Installation using corrugated board is quite simple, but there are still some features that must be considered. These include the delivery of material and lifting it to the roof of the house - care must be taken not to scratch or damage the professional sheets for the future roof. Covering the crate is also important correctly and accurately.
We must not forget about safety: when we ourselves begin to work with metal, it is necessary to wear protective gloves and clothes, you can only walk on the roof in soft shoes, stepping on the comb.
It is important to correctly determine the type during installation truss system and the step of the rafters, the overhang angle and the type of profiled sheet will affect the performance. We cover the roof of the house, be sure to take into account these parameters.
Laying rules
The installation of sheets and the arrangement of the roof are simple. To begin with, we need to determine the styling option. Next, we make a boardwalk under the valley planks and fasten the end planks.
Roof installation begins with laying eaves plank, which should be below the waterproofing film. After that, we start from the end, in cases with hip roofs- we start from the center of the hip. For fasteners, one sheet takes from seven to eight self-tapping screws; it is recommended to process some joints with steel rivets.
All sheets must be leveled before the final reinforcement on the end of the roof slope! The overlap of the material, depending on the angle of the slope, will be from one hundred and fifty to two hundred millimeters, it should not be less than one wave.
Installation of corrugated board near valleys, ridge, pipes
The technology of laying corrugated board involves the design of places near the valleys, pipes, roof ridge with a metal sheet. Let's see how you can do it yourself.
- The device of the groove at the dormer window, that is, the construction of a short valley. To do this, we ourselves cut the sheet at the lower end of the groove into two equal parts (we take this into account when calculating the material for installation). First we put the bottom sheet, then the bottom bar, the last goes already roofing sheet.
- We put our own end plate. The length of such a bar is two meters, the overlap of the material should be from fifty to one hundred millimeters. Installation begins from the side of the overhang towards the roof ridge. Near the ridge, the excess must be cut off, while the entire end plate covers at the same time no less than one wave of corrugated board. Now the bar is attached to the end board and profiled sheets in a comb, the fastening step is one meter.
- Mounting the ridge rail. Here you can use special smooth elements for skates, experts recommend laying seals under corrugated board, either repeating or with fine corrugation. The length of the overlap should be from one hundred millimeters; from the side of the sheet, the plank is fastened with self-tapping screws in increments of up to four hundred millimeters. All fasteners that we make ourselves must go into the strobe or under the skin. For protection, we use a ridge seal: for lateral junction, we take a longitudinal seal, it can not be used on steep slopes.
- Installation of passage elements or outlet pipes. All outlet pipes, which we also install ourselves, consist of an upper part (the pipe itself) and a lower part (selected according to the roof profile). At the same time, it is advisable to install a snow cover immediately. The diameter of the pipes should be about one hundred millimeters, the ventilation pipes must be insulated.
Seals and screws for corrugated board
So, we cover the roof of the house. The technology requires the use of special screws and seals. Self-tapping screws are made of galvanized, hardened steel. They have a special gasket made of EPDM elastomer, their caps are made with polyester, thermally strengthened powder, which guarantees the highest quality, resistance to corrosion, mechanical damage, and ultraviolet rays.
Scheme of fastening corrugated board.
The technical characteristics of the screws are as follows:
- dimensions - 35 * 4.8;
- surface treatment - electrolytic galvanization from 12 microns;
- self-tapping screws in the composition have stabilizers that prevent aging under the negative influence of ultraviolet rays;
- external coating of the hat - powder paints with a thickness of 50 microns;
- gaskets can be made of polymer or aluminum sheet (for valleys).
It often involves the use of special gaskets that perform the function of protecting against snow, rain, wind, preventing them from falling under the flooring surface, due to the snug fit of the material to the planks. This increases the service life roof structure, heater, interior decoration at home, sound and wind insulation is greatly increased.
Today, installation can be carried out using seals to fit the shape of the corrugation of the flooring. In addition, there is a special seal for the ridge at 1.1 meters, reverse at 1.1 meters, universal at two meters, at an angle of forty-five degrees at 1.05 meters.
Roof deck care
It is not difficult to cover the roof with corrugated board with your own hands, as well as to take care of it. For cleaning, rain is enough to make the surface clean again, but leaves, branches and other debris sometimes cannot completely get off with rainwater, so an annual surface cleaning is recommended.
It also needs to be cleaned regularly. drainage systems, grooves. Spots covered with stains or heavily soiled should be washed with a soft brush and plain water from a hose at a pressure of up to fifty bar.
If the dirt is sufficiently ingrained, then you can use detergents for painted surfaces. We do it ourselves in this way: we apply the product on the surface of the roof, after which we give it a couple of minutes for a better effect and wash it off clean water. We clean complex stains with a clean rag soaked in a solvent. After that, the roof must be rinsed with clean water.
Attention: we do not use products for cleaning the roof that are not intended for such work, as the surface of the polymer and the sheet itself can be too damaged.
We remove snow and ice ourselves with the help of plastic or wooden spatulas, this must be done carefully to prevent scratches during cleaning.
Thus, the installation of corrugated board differs from many other options in simplicity, although it also has its own characteristics. It is necessary to strictly follow the simple rules of laying, correctly calculate the materials and take into account the features of the truss system. It remains to cover the crate with a profiled sheet, and you can forget about repairing the roof.
“How to properly cover the roof with corrugated board and is it possible to do it yourself?” - these questions are asked by every homeowner who decides to use a corrugated sheet as a roof covering for his house or outbuildings. profiled sheet as roofing material is a leader not only in the price-quality ratio, but also in ease of installation. If you act step by step and strictly observe simple technology, then covering the roof with corrugated board will not cause any particular difficulties.
For the roof, a metal profile of the H57 or HC35 brand is chosen. H57 corrugated board with an additional stiffener, the so-called load-bearing one, is ideal as a roofing material, but a little expensive. Usually they use the universal HC35, it is suitable in terms of quality and is more affordable in terms of cost. You can choose a regular galvanized sheet, or you can choose a polymer-coated one, it all depends on your wishes and wallet. Before covering the roof with corrugated board, you need to decide on the number of sheets of material, additional elements. If the roof is simple enough, then you can do the calculation yourself. The roof slopes are rectangles, isosceles trapezoids or triangles, that is, the length of the slope is the value from the ridge to the base, add 5 cm and get the length of the metal profile sheet.
When roofing with corrugated board, it is desirable that the slope be covered in length with one sheet, since the fewer overlaps, the more reliable the roof, but if you still have to cover in several rows, then you need to add 20 cm for each overlap. Consequently:
- PROF SHEETS LENGTH = Slope LENGTH + 5 cm, if the roof will be covered in one sheet.
- LENGTH OF THE PROF SHEETS = LENGTH of the slope + 5 cm + 20 cm (for each row with an overlap), if the roof will be covered in several horizontal rows.
The roof can be covered in 2 rows of 4.3 m each - 20 cm will go to the overlap, 5 cm to the overhang, and it turns out the working LENGTH of the sheet = 4.3 m-0.2 m-0.05 m = 4.05 m. For each type of metal profile has its own working width, but in this example, the most common corrugated board for roofing HC35 is considered. The useful width of the HC35 metal profile sheet is 1 m, so the working area of the sheet for such a slope is 4.05 × 1 = 4.05 m2. We consider the number of sheets: 128: 4.05 = 31.6, that is, you need 32 sheets of metal profiles of 4.3 m each. You can take and cover the roof with one sheet 8.15 m long, you will need 128: 8.15 = 15 such sheets, 7, that is 16 sheets. But will it be convenient to work with such a length yourself ... If the roof is “broken”, with many bends, you need to scan all the slopes and count the number of sheets for each slope and add them up. You can also turn to specialists, they have special programs that will make a calculation and even a better installation scheme. Is there some more online calculators to calculate the amount of corrugated board, but before entering the data into the program, check the correctness of their calculation on simple example, at least on the one above. Depending on the type of roof, additional elements are also purchased, such as skates, end, cornice and butt strips, self-tapping screws for their fastening. Self-tapping screws are purchased at the rate of 11 pieces per 1m2. Thus, before covering the roof with corrugated board, it is necessary to carry out painstaking work on measuring, counting all the materials that will be used in the work. This stage should be worked out very carefully so as not to interrupt work in the future due to a lack of some details.
standard stage. Warming and vapor barrier
A roof made of corrugated board for our climatic conditions necessarily requires insulation. The insulation technology is the same as for all other types of coating: mineral wool between the rafters and a vapor barrier layer, the insulation layer must be at least 15 cm.Hydrobarrier
In order to protect the heat-insulating layer from moisture and prevent the roof from leaking, a waterproofing layer is laid. This is a mandatory step, it cannot be neglected. Consider how to properly waterproof the roof. Under the roof with corrugated board it is better to choose modern waterproofing materials. Both membrane and polypropylene films are widely used. The technology of their laying is very simple. If the roof is new, being built from scratch, then, of course, it is better to use a membrane. The waterproofing layer is unwound over the main rafters horizontal rows. The overlap of the top row to the bottom row should be 15 cm, the film should sag a little by 2 centimeters (but there should be a distance between the insulation layer and the waterproofing of about 3 cm) and fastened with a stapler to the rafters, the overlaps should be glued with adhesive tape.If it is planned to simply cover the roof with corrugated board, previously covered with other material, then there is no point in using a membrane. A dense thick polyethylene film is laid on top of the old insulating layer, for example, roofing material. In any case, the waterproofing is fastened with a stapler, and the joints are glued with construction tape.
Counter-lattice and crate
After the waterproofing layer is laid, the counter-lattice is stuffed. Along the main rafters, over the hydro-barrier, bars are stuffed with gaps of 20 mm. For the counter-lattice, 25 × 40 mm bars are usually used. A crate is stuffed onto the counter-lattice. For different types of corrugated board, different types lathing step, the thinner the corrugated board and the smaller the angle of the roof slope, the less step crates. This article discusses how to properly cover the roof with corrugated board, therefore, the recommended correct option for the roof - metal profile HC35. However, in the table below we indicate the recommended step for different types profiled sheet.Type of corrugated board | roof pitch | Sheet thickness | Lathing step |

Laying profiled sheets
It's time to directly attach the corrugated board to the roof. Sheets are fastened only with special roofing screws with a rubber lining near the cap and a drill at the end, matching the color of the profiled sheets. For fastening, a conventional screwdriver is used. First, the eaves plank is attached.Sheets rise to the roof along inclined boards so as not to deform them. The first sheet begins to be laid from the lower corner of the roof, the sheets are carefully aligned with the eaves. The fastening of the corrugated board to the crate is carried out in the lower wave with self-tapping screws 4.8 × 35 mm in size.
There are several schemes for laying profiled sheets, but the rules for working with profiled sheets are always the same:
- Most bottom row(along the eaves) and the topmost row (along the ridge) are fastened with self-tapping screws into each wave deflection.
- The middle of the slope is fixed through the wave in a checkerboard pattern.
- Self-tapping screws are screwed in clearly perpendicular to the plane of the sheet, distortions are unacceptable.
- The longitudinal step for fastening the sheet is 1 m.
- Vertical overlaps between adjacent sheets are 1 wave (for flat roof 2 waves).
- The top row lies on the bottom row with an overlap of 20 cm.
- The horizontal overlap line is fastened with self-tapping screws into each lower wave.
- Profiled sheets along the edges of the roof are attached to each plank of the crate.
- Cutting profiled sheets is done either with an electric jigsaw or electric shears (not a grinder!).
- You should move along the roof along the lower wave in soft shoes.
Since it is not so difficult to properly cover the roof with corrugated board, fixing the sheets should not take much time. After all the sheets of the metal profile are fixed, they begin to fasten the additional elements: skates, end (wind) strips, snow retainers. The ridge is fastened with self-tapping screws into every second upper wave, with an overlap on the sides of 150-200 mm. End (wind) strips are installed with an overlap of at least 50 mm.
All additional elements are fastened with special long self-tapping screws for metal profile - 4.8 × 50 (60) mm.
