Aluminum slatted bathroom ceilings. Aluminum ceilings are the best solution for the bathroom. DIY installation
You've made the decision to install an aluminum slatted bathroom ceiling, but you're unfamiliar with how it's done. Don't worry, this article is exactly what you need. Here is the technology for assembling the ceiling from aluminum rails with your own hands, as well as helpful tips and recommendations for beginner home masters.
What elements does a suspended rack ceiling consist of?
First of all, the aluminum bathroom ceiling consists of metal frame and facing panels (rails). Aluminum bathroom ceiling panels are produced by cold forming. From above, they are covered with special paint and protective varnish, which prevents the damaging effects of moisture on the panel.
The metal frame is made of metal, stamped and galvanized profiles. Zinc also prevents metal corrosion. In general, the service life of the components of the suspended rack ceiling is 25 years.
The frame kit for the rack ceiling consists of the following elements:
- wall corner profile
- Supporting perforated ceiling profile or stringer
- Universal adjustable suspension (hook spoke + loop spoke connected by a petal spring)
Fastening is carried out with dowels and self-tapping screws 6 x 40 mm. The cladding of the frame is carried out with wide ceiling slats. Ceiling rail dimensions: width from 9 to 20 cm, length 3 or 4 m, thickness 0.5 mm.
The ceiling rail has rounded curved edges. This is done in order to secure it to the stringer. The most running slats are 10 cm wide.
Which rails to choose
Aluminum bathroom ceilings can be clad with three types of ceiling rails:
- open type
- closed type
- Reiki with inserts
The first type of rails leaves the space between the rails open. It is recommended to clad the ceiling with such panels at a ceiling height of 3 m or more. If you do it lower, then the ceiling communications will be noticeable when the lights are on.
The second type has a protrusion on one side of the panel, which covers the inter-rail gap when mounted on a stringer. The use of such a rail will give the impression of finishing the ceiling with a wooden clapboard.
The third option is the most popular and original. Inserts are installed between the panels in an aluminum rack ceiling, which can be made of aluminum rails of a different color with a width of 16 mm.
Particularly beautiful look inserts with a mirror finish. Let's see how to calculate slatted ceilings in the bathroom with slats and inserts.
Calculation of the rack ceiling for the bathroom
It's important to know! Install the aluminum ceiling in the bathroom after the tiling work on the floor and walls is completed.
To calculate the rack ceiling, there are the following rules:
- The length of the wall corner profile is equal to the perimeter of the ceiling
- The ceiling support profile is installed along the length of the room with an interval of 1.2 meters for small rooms, the interval can be reduced to 0.6 m. Its length can be calculated using the formula: ((H / 0.6) - 2) x L = Z
- H - width of the room
- 0.6 - interval between adjacent profiles
- L - room length
- Z - profile length required for the room
- The number of universal hangers is equal to the total length of the stringers divided by the hanger mounting interval or 1 m
- Ceiling rails and inserts are mounted perpendicular to the direction of the stringer on its notches. The number of rails can be calculated using the formula: H / (S + J) = K
- H - room width in m
- S - ceiling rail width in m
- J - width of the inter-rail insert in m
- K - the number of ceiling rails and inserts in pieces
Marking the horizontal level of the ceiling
Since the tiles are already laid on the walls, it is very easy to orient the level of the future suspension system. With a ruler, it is necessary to mark the required height (horizontal plane) of the slatted ceiling and put marks on the walls along the perimeter with a pencil at a distance of no more than 1 m from each other.
It's important to know! The ceiling in the rack bathroom can be lowered to an arbitrary height, but not less than 12 cm. This gap is necessary for the installation of recessed lighting fixtures.
On the ceiling mark the axis of the location of the bearing stringers. Marks are placed along the axes for mounting universal suspensions. After that, the marking is completed.
Note! The line on the walls should not fall on the tile seam. When drilling holes, the tile may burst.
Installation of lighting electrical wiring
Lighting wiring is placed in a plastic corrugated sleeve and attached to the ceiling with clamps. At the locations of spotlights, loops 25–30 cm long are brought out for further connection of lighting devices.
Important to remember! If there are bare ends of the wires, then they must be insulated with electrical tape.
Along the marked line, the wall corner profile is fastened. To do this, holes are drilled in increments of 35-40 cm. The corner is mounted with the painted side to the floor.
Do this first with a drill on the tile, and then on the concrete. Dowels are carefully hammered into the holes with a hammer and an angle profile is attached to them with self-tapping screws. According to the marks on the axes of the supporting profiles, universal suspensions are attached with dowels. For this, a loop is provided on one knitting needle.
Bearing stringers are hung on hooks to the installed hangers. The horizontal plane of the stringers is controlled by a level rule.
Installation of ceiling rails and built-in spotlights
The slats on the bathroom are cut to size with a grinder. The rail is mounted on the stringers by snapping them into the profile notches. A hole is cut out at the locations of the spotlights on the rail. This is done with a drill with a crown according to the diameter of the lamp.
The lighting device is mounted in the hole by bending the springs. After that, the rail is installed on the stringers and the fixtures are connected to the lighting wiring. If the last rail is larger than the uncovered space left, then it must be cut.
To do this, a straight line is marked along the rail with a pencil and, after applying a ruler, is drawn several times with effort with a sharp construction knife. Cuts are made across the rail with metal scissors at an interval of 30 cm. By bending a piece up and down, it is broken off.
After installing the last rail, the inter-rail inserts are installed. They are cut to size and snapped between two ceiling rails. When this procedure is completed, the ceiling is leveled so that it lies flat on the wall corner.
Starting repairs in the bathroom, not everyone can immediately pick up desired design for her. When it comes to ceilings, professionals often offer aluminum ceilings to their customers.
At first glance, the choice is dubious, if we take into account the costs and hassle associated with installing such ceilings. But when in the end you see with your own eyes the resulting interior of your bathroom, you not only stop regretting the time and money spent, but also begin to advise all your friends to resort to a similar solution.
Aluminum is the best option for a slatted ceiling
Many people wonder why aluminum is suitable for the manufacture of such ceilings. the best way? The answer is simple. aluminum ceiling for the bathroom is an ideal option, since aluminum is one of the few materials that meets all the requirements for rooms with high humidity. Bathrooms are such rooms.
Also, aluminum is not a heavy metal, which is important because it does not act on bearing structures with great strength. Moreover, this metal does not rust. A significant plus of aluminum lies in the fact that it is very easy to wash, acquiring its original appearance after cleaning.
In addition, it has the ability to repel dust from itself, which is very convenient, because the aluminum ceiling will hardly get dirty. But the main advantage of the aluminum rack construction is that it is very easy to install (see).
It is worth noting that the ceiling covering using a large amount of glass looks especially beautiful. You can find such aluminum slatted bathroom ceilings in the catalogs of the best design and finishing works.
Types of rack structures
In order to choose the right slatted aluminum ceilings for the bathroom, you need to consider the following:
- There are three main types of rails: rails with inserts, closed and open.
The choice of closed slats is reasonable if you want your bathroom ceiling to resemble a clapboard made of wood.
Open rails differ from closed rails in that when installing such rails between them, specialists usually leave a small gap. However, remember that open slats are not the best choice for your bathroom, since the installation of such ceilings requires a minimum height of five meters.
It is much more practical to use slats with inserts. Their difference from open rails is mainly that the gaps between them (rails) are closed with narrow aluminum inserts.
- There is a wide choice colors panels
Aluminum ceiling panels can be any color. The choice of colors depends on the interior and design of your bathroom. In order to change the color of your coating, it is enough to use enamel, which is designed for metal work.
We install the rack ceiling yourself
In order to install the rack ceiling yourself, you must perform the following steps:
- Bring out the wiring for the lamps.
To do this, you will need to use a chisel and a hammer to beat off the plaster. After that, connect the wire that runs from the switch to the new wire. Next, insulate the wires. Remember that the length of the new wire should be such that its end is larger than the future ceiling. After that, plaster the resulting seam.
- Take aluminum corners and drill holes in them for dowels every 60-80 cm.
- Install guides (stringers). They should be parallel to each other at a distance of one to two millimeters.
To complete this item, you must determine whether the ceiling is flat. If not, you need to install suspensions. If it is close to ideal, then these measures are not needed. Cut a comb one and a half meters long with scissors cutting for metal, then determine the level of the attachment point of your guide and use a drill with a thin drill to make a hole in this place.
- Fasten the guides with self-tapping screws.
- Attach the interpanel profile to the panel grooves.
- Install the end panel elements.
- cut panels.
To cut a slatted panel, you need to mark the dimensions you need on the panel. Having done this, draw a construction knife along the line outlined in advance. Make cuts every thirty millimeters to the line. Unfold the incised fragment and separate it. Then wrap the sponges of the pliers with a soft cloth and press the corners of the bottom of the profile up. Next, in the place where the stringer will be, make an incision (see).
- Install panels.
In order to install, fix the whole panel next to the wall and also in the center of the room. Then click it with a little effort on the stringer. Do the same with the rest of the panels, except for the last one.
- Install the edge cut panel.
To complete this step, remove the interpanel profiles that are from the edges, as well as the last rail. After that, you can make a fix.
- Align the assembled ceiling.
To do this, you will need to adjust the level of the ceiling with the help of self-tapping screws. We recommend checking with a liquid level (see).
Additional list of building materials for your ceiling
Aluminum panels are a design that includes not only aluminum slats.
In order to carry out the installation of aluminum panels, the following building materials are also required:
- bar with teeth, which serves for fastening;
- plinth, allowing you to close the gaps near the walls;
Of course, competition in the market of aluminum rails has reduced the price of this product, making it affordable for a wide segment of the population. Therefore, if you decide to make this ceiling at home - do not worry about your budget!

Why is the ceiling in the bathroom made of panels so good and how to install it yourself: a special case for an apartment
Panels are the ideal material for ceilings in bathrooms.
Greetings, comrades!
If you are still in doubt about how to sheathe the ceiling in the bathroom, then I hope that my experience will help you do right choice. More recently, just like you, I was thinking about the choice of material for bathroom renovation, and if, regarding the wall decoration, the choice was initially made in favor of ceramic tiles, then there was no unequivocal opinion about the decoration of the ceiling.
Available Options
I hope you can imagine what atmospheric fronts and temperature changes occur during the day in this small area, but huge in importance room? Accordingly, all finishing materials must have 100% inertness to both moisture and temperature, and environmental friendliness.
It is clear that ceramic tiles, linoleum, plastic panels and waterproof paints are fully endowed with these qualities, but only the last 2 are suitable for finishing the ceiling. Actually, the old bathroom ceilings in most of the apartments that I met were painted, but years of operation made this coating unsightly, and I didn’t want to repeat it.
Therefore, bathroom ceiling panels remained from the list of available materials, and among the many types I had to choose. But more about everything below.
such an exotic stretch ceiling I didn’t consider finishing the ceiling with mirrors, because, firstly, it’s impossible to do it on my own, and secondly, it’s quite expensive.
Second important point- the finishing materials themselves must reliably protect the surfaces on which they will be attached. But with this, the ceiling in the bathroom made of aluminum panels or PVC panels cannot boast - additional work is needed to protect the base.
Plastic
What is good about this finishing material and why is it preferred for finishing ceilings?
- A clear plus of polyvinyl chloride - resistance to high humidity due to zero hygroscopicity;
- The material is chemically stable, and over the entire range of temperatures characteristic of the bath. Therefore, the harmful fumes emitted by the finishing material can not be feared.
PVC contains components that, when heated above 120C, release hydrogen chloride HCl. It is a slightly toxic substance with a suffocating odor. Although such temperatures are unlikely, they should not be ruled out.
In addition, the panels have another weak point - low strength. Not every impact of the honeycomb structure of the panels is able to withstand without consequences. Suffice it to recall any wall sheathed with plastic - for sure, crumpled panels came across the eye, the appearance of which did not contribute to the decor.
There is one more important nuance: tongue-and-groove locks, which are equipped with bathroom panels on the ceiling, do not have tightness. Accordingly, water will get under the finish, hidden from your eyes, which will inevitably lead to mold and accelerated destruction of the wall.
Aluminum
Products made from this material look much more expensive, and this is not surprising. Therefore, if you want luxury - definitely aluminum!
Speaking of color - slats (panels) can be painted in any and imitate any surface. Each manufacturer has its own production series, which can be found in the catalogs.
Solution cost
Let's find out another important point - what is preferable to choose? It is clear that aluminum ceiling decoration is more interesting, but do not forget that bathroom renovation is already an expensive pleasure, which means that it has already devastated the family budget, so there is a great desire to save money.
So, in my opinion, you can save on installation services, since they occupy almost 40% in the structure of total costs. Example? Please:
The average cost of surface finishing with panels starts from 250 rubles per 1 sq.m. The price is affected by the area, the shape of the room and the number of corners, the need to install built-in and a number of other factors. If everything is ordered in a complex, then the cost of the service for a room measuring 2x3m will be about 450 rubles / 1m, and in general 2700-3000 rubles.
It seems to be a little, but this does not include the cost of materials that you must purchase to finish the ceiling. Here are some examples of their prices:
Material | Price |
PVC panels | From 160 rubles / m2 and above |
Aluminum panels | From 1300 rub/m2 and above |
Galvanized profile CD 60x27 mm | From 80 rub / 3 m |
Direct suspension galvanized | From 3 rub / piece |
Self-tapping screw for metal 9x3.5 | From 25 kopecks / piece |
Corner profile (internal and external) | From 15 rubles / m. |
Traverse for aluminum panels | From 60 rub / m. |
Start profile | From 10 rubles / m. |
Plastic crate for PVC panels | From 50 rub / 3 m |
Ceiling plinth foam | From 12 rubles / m. |
Dowel screw 60x6 mm | From 65 kopecks / piece |
Kleimer for PVC panels | From 80 kopecks / piece |
Agree that the total costs will be impressive.
From words to deeds
Let's move on to practice. Rather, I will share my own experience of mounting panels on the ceiling, namely, I will tell you how I fixed the plastic panels and how I mounted the aluminum ones with my own hands.
But first I will explain that although the technologies are somewhat similar, nevertheless, there are significant differences:
- On the ceiling, the panels are fixed either on a galvanized CD profile mounted on direct suspensions (for aluminum - traverses with latches, or the second name is stringers), or on plastic rails with fixing panels (mostly plastic) with clamps;
Thanks to this crate, it is possible to compensate for uneven floor slabs typical of multi-storey buildings. old building. In addition, it is easy to place inside electrical wiring and lamps.
- The wooden crate, as well as the adhesive installation method for the bathroom, is unacceptable due to performance characteristics the premises itself;
- For plastic elements, fasteners are needed - either clamps together with guides, allowing for hidden installation, or special galvanized screws.
Mold protection
Do not forget that the panels, unlike ceramic tiles, do not 100% protect the ceiling from moisture. This means that they require additional protection by treating the latter with special antifungal agents.
In addition, be sure to insert a ventilation valve into one of the panels - the space behind the panels must be ventilated.
Ceiling installation
How to fix plastic panels on the ceiling? This will require a little - about a dozen suspensions, several CD profiles and a pack of galvanized "fleas" (9 mm metal screws). You will find out the exact amount yourself by measuring your premises.
If you had experience installing drywall, then this operation will not cause any difficulties:
- On the ceiling with a ruler and a pencil, the position of the profiles is marked. The distance between them should not exceed 0.5m, otherwise the plastic may sag over time;
- For the same reason, 0.1 m must be retreated from the wall;
- Then we mark marks along the lines with a step of 0.8 m for suspensions;
- We pick up a puncher and drill directly through the suspension, as in the photo below;
- A plastic dowel is inserted into the hole and a mounting screw is screwed in;
- Having installed in one line, bend the ears at the suspensions, insert the profile and fix it with self-tapping screws;
- Using the level, we expose all subsequent profiles, achieving one plane. You can use ordinary threads by pulling them between the extreme profiles and using them as a guide;
It is problematic to screw the profile from the side of the wall, since it is very difficult to get there with a screwdriver. There is one trick - first bend the ear of the suspension, closest to the wall, and press the profile to the ceiling and fix it with a flea. Then bend back and fix the other ear.
- When the frame is mounted, proceed to the installation of the panels themselves.
Installation of plastic panels
For installation plastic panels you will also need to install a starting profile around the perimeter, which will close the gap between the wall and the ceiling.
If the walls are uneven, then a more flexible skirting board can be used instead of a rigid profile. It also has a groove for the panel.
In this situation, I did the following:
- I cut the panel to the size I needed;
- I did the same with the starting profile;
- Connected them together - inserted the panel into the profile;
- He pressed it to the installation site and marked with a pencil on the wall where to fix the starting profile;
- Removed the panel and installed the profile on the wall;
- Fixed the first panel;
- I took the next one, having previously measured and cut it to size, docked it with the first one and fixed it with self-tapping screws;
- I installed the last panel along with the profile - otherwise it will not work. The joint between the profile and the wall was sealed with a colorless silicone sealant.
It is best to cut PVC and sandwich panels with a grinder - then the cut line is smooth and without burrs. Just be sure to use safety glasses and a respirator during work - the dust is quite caustic, and abrasive particles can come off the circle, which can cause injury to the eyes.
Installation of aluminum panels
Installation of this type of panels is somewhat easier due to the fact that aluminum parts have special sides on the back side, with which they are fixed to the traverse.
Otherwise, the technology is similar:
- First, we determine the location of the wall U-shaped profile or plinth;
Its shape depends on the purchased panels - as a rule, the manufacturer completes each series with a specific type of profile. Do not save money - buy only recommended products, so that the result will not disappoint you.
- We mount it using the building level;
- Then we measure the length of the first panel;
- We cut it off with a grinder;
- We apply for fitting - a slight adjustment of the sides at the fixation points on the traverse may be required;
- Before final installation, remove the protective film from the panel;
- We start one edge in a U-shaped profile;
- We insert the second edge diagonally, leading the panel into the profile without deformation;
- We do the same operations with other parts.
In the photo - installation of panels with additional inserts. Most often they are referred to as "spacer separator panels."
Obviously, there will definitely be difficulties with the last panel - it is very problematic to bring its edge into profile without deformation. There is a secret here: cut the length of the panel a little less - somewhere 0.5 cm shorter than everyone else. Due to this, it will be easier to insert it, slightly arching.
Completion
I sincerely hope that the instructions I have proposed will help the dear reader both in choosing the material for the ceiling and in the method of its installation. As always, additional thematic information can be explored by watching the video in this article. I look forward to your comments and additions. Good luck, comrades!
When it comes to remodeling a bathroom, it can be difficult to decide on a design. Stopping your choice on any one particular material is also problematic.
Since in the modern market the assortment finishing materials is quite wide and varied, buyers sometimes get lost and cannot come to a final decision.
The ceiling in the bathroom is perhaps one of the most important details, no less significant than the walls or floor. The decoration of the ceiling is sometimes given insufficient attention, they consider this issue to be secondary.
Many cannot even think that this part of the room can be a great addition to the interior.
What to choose, how to make repairs look harmonious, be simple and not expensive in money equivalent? You can get the answer to this question by reading this article.
What are there?
Consider, as an option for solving the issue of interest to us - the ceiling in the bathroom made of aluminum. If we take into account the specificity of this room, then this material is the best suited for finishing the ceiling.
Aluminum ideally meets all the requirements that apply to rooms with high humidity.
To an amateur, such a choice may not inspire confidence. But, any specialist will tell you that aluminum ceilings are practical, they are not difficult to install, and most importantly, they are stable and safe to use. Because of his appearance they are often referred to as "rack". What does such a ceiling look like?
These are separate beams, the length of which is 3 - 4 meters. If the beams are planned to be used as a finishing element, they are easily adjusted to the desired size. Each plank is 10cm wide. There are slats of three modifications: open, closed and with inserts.
Aluminum can be laminated, such as wood, gold, silver, and so on. Recently, the material has become very popular, and this has led to great competition among manufacturers who are trying to offer customers many different design shapes and colors. In a word, there are a lot of variations for decorating a room.
There are several types of aluminum ceilings:
- Rack suspended- the most popular due to ease of installation and unusual appearance. They are open and closed. The rails are attached to the guide profile by snapping. In this case, it is very important to make accurate measurements, the slats should be taken a little longer than the ceiling. Only in this way will you be able to avoid the formation of cracks.
- Cassette- it is rarely installed. Such a ceiling is assembled from square or rectangular sheets. They are sold in sets that differ from each other in design solutions. This may be an alternation of color or shape of the panels. This option not recommended for small rooms. Otherwise, the space will seem even smaller. This design is ideal for rooms with a large ceiling area.
- Designed by custom order(designer)- is extremely rare. The most expensive and labor intensive option. It will not be possible to make such a ceiling on your own.
Advantages and disadvantages
This material has a number of advantages.
By installing an aluminum ceiling in the bathroom, we will have such pros:
Flaws. There are only a few of them.
DIY installation
What tools will be needed you for this:
- drill;
- perforator;
- level;
- metal scissors;
- roulette;
- ruler;
- very sharp knife;
- marker;
- dowels and screws.
Step-by-step instruction:
- We install guides around the perimeter of the bathroom. We assign a marker where the new ceiling will be. From the existing distance should be 5 - 6 cm. We take the level and transfer this mark around the perimeter (step 1m). We draw a straight line. According to the marks, we measure the length of the wall and cut it with scissors for metal required size corner profile.
- We install hangers. With the help of a tape measure, we mark the places where the load-bearing tires will be attached. The first mark should be at a distance of 35 - 40 cm from the wall, the next after 1 meter parallel to each other. Hangers are fastened with screws with dowels. The accuracy of their installation must be checked with a level.
- Fixing the carrier rails. Ideally, the distance between them should not be more than 1 meter. Traverses are attached perpendicularly to the rails, in line with the profile that you have already nailed around the perimeter. Tires are attached to suspensions with a screwdriver. At this stage of work, not the slightest mistake should be made. The quality of the future ceiling depends on this.
- Installing a slatted ceiling. First of all, it is necessary to free the slats from the protective film and cut them to fit the room. We insert the rails into the guides and snap them along the length with clamps. All rails are installed tightly to each other so that there are no gaps and gaps between them. Tire height can be adjusted. This is achieved by changing the screwing depth of the screws (if the tire is attached to the ceiling) or by using adjustable hangers. Lastly, a decorative plinth is installed. Without it, the ceiling will not look neat and have an unfinished look.
DIY installation completed. You just have to clean the room.
What lamps are suitable?
Lamps for this type of ceiling are used in several varieties, they can be:
spot, recessed, raster, LED, fluorescent, halogen and incandescent lamps. When choosing lighting device the following requirements must be followed:
- lamp power and its spectrum should be best suited to a particular room;
- the dimensions of the lamp should look harmonious with the level of the ceiling;
- The luminaire must be selected according to the maximum period of operation. No matter how often you have to dismantle the structure to replace it.
Aluminum ceiling care
The lightness and ease of maintenance of the aluminum ceiling surface is obvious. All you need for cleaning is a rag and mild soapy water. A few minutes spent, and your ceiling will have a pristine shining look. The condensate that has settled on the ceiling will not leave marks when it dries.
The price of materials and work of the master
In order to know exactly how much an aluminum ceiling will cost you, you need to take the correct measurements of the ceiling.
In this case, it is necessary to take into account all the ledges and recesses of the walls, determine the direction of the panels. In order not to be mistaken with measurements, you can use the services of a specialist. It will cost you about 400 - 600 rubles.
The price of aluminum panels depends on the manufacturer, the width of the rails, the quality of the material:
- A 3-meter panel can cost 110 - 112 rubles, a 4-meter panel - 150 - 160 rubles.
- The price range of guides can vary from 180 to 600 rubles apiece.
- Inserts and decorative plinths will cost you from 180 to 500 rubles per unit.
- Connecting mechanisms cost from 70 to 250 rubles.
Experienced craftsmen for installing an aluminum ceiling charge an average of 500 - 600 rubles per square meter for their work.
The bathroom plays an important role in every person's life. Here, each of us spends a lot of time, putting ourselves in order, doing personal hygiene.

Aluminum ceiling, the best solution for the bathroom
Aluminum ceilings, what they are
At first glance, a ceiling made of such a material does not immediately inspire confidence, but any experienced builder or plumber will tell you that aluminum will be the best solution in the bathroom. This is a practical type of finish, and the design itself is extremely resistant to moisture and reliable. Due to the peculiarities of the appearance, such a ceiling received its own name among the people - “rack”.
Outwardly, it is a structure consisting of panels, the length of which depends on the size of the room. The panels have a standard width of 10 cm, a length of up to 4 meters, if necessary, you can order panels with other parameters suitable for your bathroom.
Also, the panels have three design options: open, closed and with decorative inserts.
Aluminum ceiling in the bathroom different colors and shades, can have a laminated surface. The growing popularity of this solution is forcing manufacturers to produce panels in various sizes and colors, you will definitely have plenty to choose from.
Aluminum ceiling has three varieties:
Advantages and disadvantages of aluminum ceiling
Aluminum as a metal has a whole range of advantages that give the following advantages of the ceiling structure:
- Light weight. The aluminum ceiling does not require a powerful frame, it is lightweight and easily held in a medium-sized room on three or four profiles.
- Lifetime. This type of ceiling, provided that it is installed without violating technology, will serve you faithfully for more than a decade. Even if negligent tenants flood you from above, the ceiling will not suffer. Moisture resistance. Aluminum is completely neutral to humidity in the bathroom. Unlike other metals, it does not rust.
- Ease of maintenance. Caring for such a ceiling in the bathroom is very simple, just wipe it with a damp cloth and then dry it to give the surface a shine. Do not use dry detergents with hard particles, they scratch the surface of the panels.
- Ease of installation. With due attention, using all the recommendations and rules from the instructions, an aluminum ceiling can be installed in 1 day. Special skills are not needed. If required, any ceiling panel can be replaced without dismantling the entire structure.
- Soundproofing. The aluminum itself is good at blocking out sound, so you can relax in the bathroom without the noise from the occupants upstairs.
- Environmental friendliness, safety. Aluminum does not burn, does not emit gases when heated or in contact with household chemicals. It fully complies with the ISO 9001 standard.
- variability design solutions. Aluminum ceiling can be made with multi-level transitions both horizontally and vertically.
- Variation of lighting zones. Lighting in a room with such a ceiling has practically no restrictions. You can highlight any area with light, and the mirror surface of the panels will create pleasant reflections.
Flaws. They are few, but they are:
- When installing, you need to be careful when working with panels (rails), they easily bend and scratch. From such damage, the panel will lose its aesthetic appearance.
- Price. The aluminum ceiling in the bathroom will not be cheap, you will have to spend money.

Fixing rails for ceiling mounting
Installation of an aluminum ceiling for a bathroom is carried out in the following sequence:
- Marking and installation of guides. With the help of a marker and a level, we make markings in the bathroom. We mark the line of the future ceiling, it is usually 8-10 cm lower than the base one. If there are communications on the ceiling, then this figure may be higher. We determine whether the panels will be installed horizontally or vertically. We measure the room, cut and install profiles.
Fastening rails to the ceiling frameMounting frame for aluminum ceiling
- Hanger installation. We make marks at the installation site of future load-bearing tires. The first tire should be at a distance of 40 cm from the wall, the rest are attached parallel to the first with an indent of 1 meter. Hangers are fixed with dowels and screws.
- Tire mounting. This is the most important point on which the strength of the future structure depends. We install the traverses strictly perpendicular to the plane of the future ceiling, their height should be in line with the profiles.
- Installation of panels (rails). We remove the factory packaging, protective film from the rails. We cut them taking into account the dimensions, then we fill them in the guides and fasten them with clamps. If necessary, change the height of the tires. All rails must be installed butt-to-butt to each other, without gaps.

Lighting, which lamps to choose?
For aluminum ceilings in the bathroom, a wide variety of fixtures are used, ranging from spotlights to incandescent lamps.
When choosing them, you need to pay attention to several nuances:
- Lighting power and colors should be in harmony with the room, harsh light is unpleasant for the eyes and causes discomfort.
- The dimensions of the lighting device should not stand out sharply against the background of the ceiling.
- Do not buy cheap fixtures, they often burn, and to replace them you will have to disassemble part of the ceiling each time, this is not difficult, but it is better to buy normal lighting fixtures right away.
